But has Haley bought into the MAGAl’Qaeda cult sufficiently? If not, he’ll pick another sycophant if Vance is thrown under the bus.
If he doesn’t drop Vance, then that could be a win for those seeking to avoid being ruled by the Trunpenführer. If he does, we’d like him to pick someone even worse. Someone who oozes as much creepiness as Omango-Tan himself does to normal human beings. Gaetz? Or that sleazy piece of slime that talked about “fertile young bodies” when teen pregnancy was under discussion?
I really want to see the GOP push the self destruct button hard. Jaded observers of their shit flinging may ask “how much harder do they have to hammer that button before they’ll consign themselves properly to oblivion?”, given that they’re already fielding such specimens as MTG, Boebert and similar broken Furbys as supposedly functional politicians. But since they seem determined to become a lunatic asylum roadshow, I want to see them disappear into the black hole of their own reich wing anus.
“Speaking Friday in at the Turning Point Action Believers’ Summit in Florida, the former president said, “Get out and vote just this time. You won’t have to do it anymore. Four more years it will be fixed. It’ll be fine. You won’t have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians.” “
The best part is: since we’ve already established the precedent that it is OK to attack female politicians based on them having a vagina; we have that to look forward to for the next 3 months.
In short, he plans to turn American police into Latin American style death squads, of the sort that used to ravage Chile and Argentina. This basically turns posse comitatus on its head.
The trouble being that the swivel-eyed MAGAl’Qaeda loons following him like lemmings over the cliff face of fascism, are too stupid to realise how this could backfire on them. They’re too busy tugging themselves at the thought of all their hate targets being given the Dachau treatment, without once thinking that they could end up tasting the requisite bitter water themselves.
As a non-US person viewing this from outside the US, I find it quite baffling and mind-boggling that anyone can take the orange seriously, given his (documentable) lying, his random behaviour and obvious extreme populistic opportunism combined with a will and ability to change his mind like the wind. Not that it is possible to actually figure out what he means, given his incoherent rambling speeches. And: how is it possible to NOT see his extreme self-centered narcissism? And if his followers do see it, in what way do they justify this as a desirable trait for a person running for office as a leader of a country?
Yeah, I know - people see what they want to see, he attracts single-issue voters (forced-birthers), and general dumb-asses that are to stupid to really understand what he is and represents. Still, I just don’t get it.
I would like to add to your post but you covered it so well, I wont. Except to point out that all empires have a best before date. Are we seeing the slow decline of the US and how can Canada mitigate its effects on us and other western democracies. Should Canada start work on a border wall?
That’s very scary. U.S. cops already have something called “qualified immunity”, but giving them absolute immunity as Trump proposes is horrifying. It would effectively create a police state in this country.
For those not in the U.S. qualified immunity gives cops immunity for most actions they perform while on duty, but it’s not absolute–it can be rescinded if the cop does something like violate someone’s rights. It’s a hard hurdle to overcome, however, and judges usually side with the cops when deciding if qualified immunity should be denied. Qualified immunity is not statutory–it’s a legal precedent established by the courts. Some jurisdictions, such as Colorado, have abolished it via statute.
Qualified immunity only applies in civil cases, however, so cops doing something egregious like shooting an unarmed suspect in the back can still be criminally prosecuted even if they can’t be sued in civil court (unless the court revokes their qualified immunity).
I know lots of people who are otherwise very intelligent, but for some reason have become consumed by Trump’s cult. The excuses they make up for his behavior are just mind boggling and make no sense to a rational person.
Americans tend to be very nostalgic, but they tend to remember only the good things about the past and either forget or bury the bad things. This would explain why so many people are willing to vote for Trump despite the horrific clown show of his four years as president, including the hundreds of thousands of people dead as a result of his complete mishandling of the Covid pandemic.
The economy is another factor. The economy was reasonably good prior to Covid, and it got much worse as a result of the disruptions caused by the pandemic. The economy has improved under Biden and inflation is coming down, but most of the economic issues were directly caused by the pandemic, which itself was made much worse by Trump’s bungling it. Although inflation is down, prices for things like food, housing, and fuel have not come down much from their pandemic levels and that’s causing people in the lower economic strata to see the economy as “bad”. If you could distill the state of the economy down to two words for many Americans it would be “gas prices”. Many Americans live paycheck-to-paycheck* and while the economy is doing well overall, they’re still being hit by the aftereffects of the pandemic. Trump, of course, is saying that it’s all Biden’s fault and he’s going to fix everything if he’s elected. A thorough analysis of his promises, however, indicates that his proposed policies will make inflation worse, not better, and will, as it did in his first term, benefit millionaires and billionaires much more than it will the middle and lower classes.
*One statistic shows that fully 38% of Americans couldn’t come up with $400 to pay an unexpected bill.
As was the case in the rest of the world as well. Not just the USA.
The economy has improved elsewhere as well, but the inflation is still a problem.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine has also been a massive driver for increased fuel prices, so here you can blame the horsec*ck V. Putin and his fascistoid ultranationalism and Russkyi mir.
Yeah, he claims this, he claims that, and 99.999% of it is pure and utter . His “solutions” will probably be to just give Ukraine to Russia, or to expel all palestinians from Israel, the West bank, and Gaza. “There, I fixed it” I’m quite baffled as to how anyone can take the seriously.
Oh I think this is one those chicken or the egg questions?
I am watching the Donald’s latest speeches and the hilarious but scary “debate” that was a chance for him to peddle more lies and rhetoric. He’s now a schil for religion again.
I tried to count the demonstrable lies, but they came so thick and fast it wasn’t possible. His defence of Vance was simply nauseating.
