Gunshots, explosions, heavy equipment, and turbine/jet aircraft engines were among the main factors of my loss and ringing. Granted, it was (mostly) fun, but the consequences that have caught up with me are ANNOYING.
Mine is a steady high-pitched whine like most people get when a really loud BANG goes off next to their ear. And it is CONSTANT and blocks out pretty much any sounds remotely close to that frequency.
My sympathies, after a lifetime in manufacturing industry, starting in a car component manufacturing plant that uses heavy presses when I was an apprentice, I know get intermittent tinnitus, it ranges from a kind of white noise, sometimes like a ringing bell, but most often a high pitched whistling noise. It’s intermittent at least, perhaps because I was pretty strict with ear protection over the years.

When I was a young musician in a very loud rock band I was pulled aside one day by an older muso when we were in the studio. Pointing at another older muso (at least 40 to my young eyes) he said to yell his name, I did, no reaction, he did not react until I touched his guitar.
At the bar socialisng, afterward I realised, watching them, they were both lipreading conversations, and in the studio, playing by memory and the black dots(written music).
I wore ear protection from that day onwards, very rarely playing unprotected despite the piss taking and “humor” of my peers. At 70 years old I was tested and still have 75% hearing.
