One for all you theists out there, somewhere

A person can commit themselves completely to a religion based on nothing but “faith”. In fact, this is what you have advocated. I suspect you assume that committing to a faith is beneficial (and I do not deny that it may), but you appeared to ignore the possible negative aspects of such an action.

Thus, I pointed out two easy examples on people who committed to their religion purely on “faith”, and the result was tragic.

Faith leads you down a path, and sometimes it leads into a very dark place. You believe it leads to sunshine, glory, and heaven. It may do the opposite.

This is one reason why I reject the action of blind faith, but instead first insist on real evidence to support my position.

Do you not see this problem? You suggest those who commit actions based on blind faith do it on their own ideas, yet you quoted a biblical passage to support your assertion?

You cannot even defend your position without resorting to blind faith and quoting the bible.

For your information Evathyst, to me and others in this forum, the bible carries as much weight as used toilet paper. One sways arguments in here by not quoting the bible, but offering cogent and rational arguments.

It certainly must be difficult. I don’t disagree with the notion that Christian academics have established for themselves the truth of their faith through solid rational argument but the important point remains that those arguments begin with the assumption that your god exists without objectively supported facts or evidence.
You presume your god’s existence through heightened personal experiences and sensations and naturally enough seek to substantiate your heartfelt claims.
I suggest you forgo the difficulty of rationalising your god because it is an anecdotal experience, and not an argument to be debated.

I pointed out that your god is transactional, your response was to attack me. Thus, I must assume you have no defense.

Rule #1

Almost certainly not.

This one is just another stereotypical apologist. In that he /she uses the standard intellectual dishonesty of biblical hermeneutics and exegisis to claim the bible doesn’t actually mean what it says.

Ironically, as Bart Erhrman shows in “Misquoting Jesus”, the bible has been altered and mistranslated so much nobody knows what was written in the original Greek

If they were not so pathetic and dangerous***, the claims of the literalists would be hilarious.

Historically, the Bible, especially the Old Testament, has been used to justify the most disgusting behaviour . Ranging from slavery to the murder of ‘witches’ and homosexuals. The hatred of homosexuals and other non hetero people remains a focus for the hatred of those pig ignorant drongos.

Misquoting Jesus: The Story Behind Who Changed the Bible and Why (published as Whose Word Is It? in United Kingdom) is a book by Bart D. Ehrman, a New Testament scholar at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.[1] The book introduces lay readers to the field of textual criticism of the Bible. Ehrman discusses a number of textual variants that resulted from intentional or accidental manuscript changes during the scriptorium era. The book made it to The New York Times Best Seller List.[2]

Hello! My name is Beth. I am a Christian. I came on here because I realized that I have stayed in the Christian bubble far too much in my life, and I have a desire to simply learn. I want to understand the atheistic and agnostics point of view better, and be challenged on finding answers for why I believe what I believe. I am actually taking a class right now from a secular theology professor who has assigned us the task of and encouraged us to reach out to someone who has a different belief system that disagrees with my own and simply have a conversation. I am looking for someone who would be willing to zoom or skype with me personally simply so I could ask some questions! My goal is not at all to convert you or anything, but simply to engage someone who is willing to, in conversation and to learn from you. Please message me privately if you would be willing and interested! Thank you so much.

Don’t spam our forums @ BethC.

Good luck with your project.

Welcome, Beth. If you are truly interested in learning about atheists and engaging in productive discussions, then your best course would be to start your own thread on here and ask whatever questions you may have there. You will get a much wider range of answers and considerably more info. No two atheists are identical, and each and every one of us has our OWN individual reason(s) for our lack of belief. Moreover, the backgrounds and “world views” among us vary greatly, and we always like to share whatever we may know with others.

Thank you for your kind and informative reply. My desire is exactly just to engage in productive conversation. I fully accept my own errors and, and when I do not have an answer, I seek truth before resting on shallow belief alone. I respect each one of you, regardless of our differences. That being said, I will start my own forum absolutely. I have already learned so much from simply reading on here. However, my desire is to hopefully get to talk to several individuals on a more personal, face-to-face level if possible for my own personal growth and also for research for my class! So if you or anyone would be willing to talk to me for even less than an hour, I would love that!

Just choose your favorite author and shoot them a PM. I think most people on the site would be willing to correspond.

Going by your so called ten commandments, you guys argue against your own logic! :joy::joy::joy:

(1) You guys base your arguments on reports and rumours against Christians

(2)When we give you evidence of our God’s presence, you turn to generalize Christianity as if there shouldn’t be original and fake.

(3)With all the achievements of our God in making LOVE, JOY and PEACE reign in our midst, you guys centralize on false reports of evildoers mixing with us.

(4)Atheists and Freethinkers assume that God doesn’t exist because they can’t see him yet they want to believe in black holes, big bang and even evolution which they’ve not seen.

(5)This is the most stupid rule, you people want everyone to believe in evolution which never occurred neither did anyone witnessed it.

(6) You want religionsists to discard God but carry evolution, big bang and black holes in their heads when these has nothing to do with humanity.

(7) Who brought about the idea of Evolution?

(8) Mere claims don’t work out so when you see something working, it’s pointless asking for evidence!

(9) There is no assumption in documents found mentioning names, venue and dates of events.

(10) Why do you wear clothes if not because it’s popular? :joy::joy::joy:

HUH! Evidence of God? WTF? This is the first time I have ever heard of evidence for god. I am dying to hear what you have. Please begin a thread and cite your evidence. I would love to hear it.

If the definition of “faith” at that level is what you guys had really wanted, the dictionary definition would have sufficed.

I still have no clue what you are talking about.

I honestly have no idea how any of what you have said relates to the definition of faith I gave you or anything I have said concerning it.

Really? Those fucking atheists. I thought they didn’t believe because there was no evidence at all supporting God or god claims. Those fucking idiot atheists, they can’t see the strong nuclear force, they can’t see gravity, they can’t see the weak nuclear force, (admittedly all of these things are more measurable than prayer or any of God’s other interventions into the world, but you still can’t see them.) Fucktard atheists. You give me the names of the atheists that do not believe in God because they can’t see him and I will personally bitch to the mods to have them removed from the site. We dislike stupid fuck atheists around here as much as we dislike moronic statements about gods… like yours.

Yo, Genius!.. Looks like you still have the same ol’ problem with reading comprehension. Good to see some things never change. In case you didn’t notice, those were the “Ten Commandments of LOGIC.” Has nothing to do with atheism. Atheists have no “commandments”, unless some individual has his/her own personal set by which they abide. Some atheists are incredibly logical. Some are not-so-terribly logical. And it varies widely in between. Thanks for playing, though. You can pick up your participation trophy as you leave. :trophy:

What the Fuck!!! They are giving out participation trophies again! I need another one. Do you know how much poo one of those puppies can carry. Better than coconut shells. Coconut shells don’t have handles.

Oh, yeah. Sorry about that, Cog. Here… :trophy:… Been meaning to get that to you. They were on backorder for awhile.

I would like to thank my mother for having me, my father or the milk-man for boinking my mother. You have all been great… Wiping a tear from my cheek. I think I am going to pee myself so I gotta go now. Thank you all ever so much. *Walking off the stage dragging the trophy behind me. I have long arms and it’s heavy. While waving bye to the crowd."

I see you haven’t learnt a fucking thing from the old forums’ ass-kicking

THATS because you’re so narrow minded and programmed in your thinking patterns THAT obviously any knowledge outside of your own bias is “set to ‘uh, uh, whaaaa’???”
