One for all you theists out there, somewhere

faith is a collection of all works done in trust and obedience to God’s commandments serving as evidence of your claim to believe.

Your faith is the evidence of your claim to believe

Faith is believing in something without evidence.

Can you offer any proof or evidence? And the bible is not the proof, it is the claim.

ALL of them…or just the ones you like?

 Uhhhh… Hmmm… Let’s see if I’ve got this…

The evidence for faith is that I believe I have faith?.. (No, wait.)… Uh…The claim that I believe I have faith is the evidence for my faith?.. (No-no-no… Hold on, dang-it. I got this.)… If I believe I have faith then that is evidence enough to make the claim faith is real?.. (Crap. Okay, one last try.)… If I claim I believe I have evidence for my faith, then my faith is evidence for the belief I claim?..… Aw, fuck it. I give up.

Sung to “FAITH” by George Micheal

Well, I guess it would be nice if I could touch your body, Jesus
I know not everybody has got a body like you…
But I gotta think twice before I give my heart away
And I know all the games you play because I play them, too

Oh, but I need some time off from that emotion
Time to pick my heart up off the floor
Oh, when that love comes down without demonstrable evidence
Well, it takes a strong man, baby
To not show you the door

‘Cause I gotta have faith
I gotta’ have faith
Because I gotta have faith, faith, faith
I got to have faith, faith, faith

Which “god?” Which “commandments?”

I know of a god that looks like a unicorn and farts rainbows, and the first commandment from this god is:
“Anyone who believes in me is a fool”

That god and those commandments? I am guessing no.

Be more specific.

Jesus Christ is the New Covenant agreement that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob promised to the Nations. This agreement comes complete with blessings, curses, a seal, eligibility requirements, promises, and commandments.
According to Jesus Christ, the agreement, if you love Him, you will submit to His lead(through the Spirit of God) and you must obey His commandments, in order to remain in His love.
When you obey His commandments, you do the works that He commands you and as a result you grow your faith in Him.

Don’t you see the nonsensical contradiction in your statement?

First you must submit, then you will have faith?

First you must love him.

Then submit.

Then obey.

Obedience in order to remain in his love.

Do works he commands.

As a result of all the above…your “faith” grows.

Sounds like a controlling relationship to me. No thank you. I can’t just love someone who doesn’t exist.

And those commandments are conveniently interpreted and written down for us by the men who lead Christianity’s many and varied churches. All we need to do is surrender our money and our will to those men and we will live forever in god’s love, even though they conspire with tyrants, send us to war, and rape our children.

When you tell yourself that you would complete your PhD for example, even where all the odds are against you completing it, and without any real evidence that you will, when you believe and continue to read, that is Faith.

Actually, that’s action and a history of your own ability… say you have a history of getting Bs to A and you have an interest in your subject material. You study, listen take notes - pass tests. Your “faith” is confidence in yourself to accomplish your goal.

Some people have an irrational view of themselves and this might lead to “faith” in their abilities - even though there is no evidence for it - like some of these folks …

Lmao
I don’t know you but I just want to let you know that I owe you a drink

Only eggnog… only eggnog …

Good question.

Most Christians I’ve come across don’t realise there are 613 Commandments (mitzvah) collectively called “the mitzvot” All are contained in the pentateuch.

Fundamentalist Christians have been cherry picking them for centuries. Perhaps the best known is the admonition against homosexuality in Leviticus; 18:22 and 20:13

The claim that Christians are not bound by all of Mosaic Law is the result of the sophistry often used in biblical hermeneutics, exegisis and theology

((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((9))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Lev. 18:22

  • ‘You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination." (NASB)
  • “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.” (ESV, NKJV)

Clearly, the Old Testament condemns homosexuality. What else does it mean when it says “you shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female”? The term “lie with” here refers to sexual intercourse in the phrase “lie with a male as one lies with a female.” It is an abomination. The word here is תֹּועֵבָה towʿebah , toʿebah.

117 occurrences; AV translates as “abomination” 113 times, “abominable thing” twice, and “abominable” twice. 1 a disgusting thing, abomination, abominable. 1a in ritual sense (of unclean food, idols, mixed marriages). 1b in ethical sense (of wickedness etc. ).1

Lev. 20:13

  • “If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltiness is upon them.” (NASB)
  • “If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.” (ESV)

The word “detestable” is the same Hebrew word found in Lev. 18:22, “abomination.”

there is nothing nonsensical about it. You have to first submit.

You are submitting to an idea without proof FIRST…

Send me your money, I’ll triple it and send it back… you have to send it FIRST without proof of my claim, BEFORE you get the payoff - BUT have faith (like your Jesus, the payoff will come back to you soon)

Right: it doesn’t make sense, unless you already believe it.

NO! You have created an equivocation fallacy. You are using the “non-Christian” definition of faith.

FAITH: (Your Usage)
complete trust or confidence in someone or something.
(Synonyms would be trust, confidence, hope, conviction.)

THE PROBLEM IS IN THE THEIST DEFINITION:
Strong belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof. “RATHER THAN PROOF” Faith itself is the evidence according to scripture.

HEBREWS 11-1
“11 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen…”

“3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.”

IN THEISM: FAITH is the proof. It has nothing at all to do with your usage of the word.

Look… you already submit to a lot of things you don’t like/understand or even agree with on a regular basis.

The point is when you have the Spirit of God living inside of you and the rule says that the only way to benefit faith-wise is to submit to His lead, what do you do? Refuse knowing you gain nothing from it?

You can only refuse for so long before you probably drain yourself out , rendering your entire journey towards God meaningless. If you are truly born again, you spent all that time working on obedience in order to get the Spirit of God to come live in you, what have you got to loose?
