Not true.

If there’s an institution which more strongly teaches (or at the least sets an example for) it’s adherents that advances in science should be resisted or outright denied if those discoveries fly in the face of it’s doctrine, I have yet to encounter it.

From Wikipedia:

The Seminar treats the canonical gospels as historical sources that represent Jesus’ actual words and deeds…

They assumed the stories about Jesus were true, to establish that 20% stories about Jesus were true. :woozy_face:

Do want personal examples of divine kindness, scriptural examples, or consensual contemporary examples?

@Nyarlathotep the subject was the historicity of Jesus.

The subject was the historicity of Jesus.

I asked you for a primary source and that is what you gave me. If it is off topic, then that is your fault.

I see no further need to continue. I’m rather sick of the “I’m correct and you can go fuck yourself” attitude. Enjoy my dear.

That is not how I feel about anyone.

I was not complaining about being off topic, I was addressing your woozy face to the percentage of quotes attributed the historical personage.

But you refuse to demonstrate objective evidence for the existence of a deity. Instead you want argue forgeries and claims made by anonymous authors from your religion. It proves nothing.

Can demonstrate any of the miracles Jesus performed in the Bible? Since you have faith. You should be able to walk on water, heal the sick, drink snake venom, and turn water to wine. He promised you would if you have faith. Can you?

@rat_spit

I haven’t heard of Turkey Tails. I’ll have to check them out and see if they grow here. Thanks!

As far as I can tell, I don’t have a conventional view on religion. Perhaps, in a previous time, I would be seen as a heretic.

Either way, I appreciate contrasting views. I’ve already learned a lot here by studying up on what I already believe, and challenging it. I don’t have to agree to learn something. Thanks, again. Nice to meet you. Hope that you still stick around.

Since you believe magic exists. Can you do it?

John 14:12, NIV: Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.

Matthew 14:31 But when he saw the strength of the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” 31 Immediately Jesus reached out His hand and took hold of Peter. “You of little faith,” He said, “why did you doubt?”

I’m quite certain I made it ABUNDANTLY CLEAR that I want you to address why your loving god and it’s “divine kindness” would do such a thing to an infant. And yet you STILL continue to deflect away from a subject you KNOW you cannot defend. Cowardly and pathetic… (shaking my damn head)…

Thing is, all this time I’ve been willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. (Silly me.) Now, however, you have more than displayed your true colors. You are not here to learn. You are not here to have meaningful discussions. You are no different than any of the countless other apologists who slink in here under the guise of wanting to “learn about atheists.” But in reality you merely want to push your agenda and play stupid little games of semantics. I’m done playing your silly game. Enjoy the rest if your time here.

You’ll notice I’m not like Nathan at all. Instead of assuming I was right; I’ve been begging people to show me a primary source for Jesus for 30 years.

Imagine if 100s of people were telling you that an NBA player scored 10,000 points in a single game of basketball. But yet none of them can name the player. That is similar to situation in which I find myself. All they need to do is tell me a single name; but no one seems able/willing to do it…

No one asked you to agree. You were asked to meet your Burden of Proof. Instead you just jerk people around.

@Nyarlathotep I understand.

How the fuck did you misunderstand this:

I went out of my way to be very clear about what I was offering, you accepted. You fucking wasted my time. I feel like an idiot.

Because we weren’t telling her what she wanted to hear.

Here is what I find fascinating… (and incredibly ironic). All the “godly Christians” (who supposedly represent honesty, integrity, and moral superiority) come here and use the most DISHONEST methods, with little-to-no personal integrity, in an almost farcical effort to point out how we atheists are immoral and dishonest. I swear it would be fucking hilarious if it were not so damn disconcerting.

When they start acting like that here in the threads. I call them out on it. Just letting you know, I think a lot of Christians are immoral assholes. I don’t get along with most of them. The more honest Christians I have debated with have come down and said “Okay, there’s no evidence. You need faith” and that I can accept from them. I understand they believe in a god. I am happy that they understand why I do not believe in a sky father. When they start arguing that a postulate is true even though they’ve been told that “The Bible is a claim, not evidence”. They can’t accept it. When they’re told that they’re making “god claims” and need to meet their Burden of Proof, they keep on anyway. They do not seem to get that there is NO EVIDENCE for a deity or a magical messiah. They don’t want to get it. They wanna argue it right into a black hole until it’s an Ad Nauseam. Any time someone gives Tia pearls. It ends with her saying BUT… No there is no BUT. There is no FUCKING evidence. Period. There’s no evidence for Allah, there’s no evidence for Zeus, There’s no evidence for God, there’s no evidence for any of those deities. What aggravates me is that theists like her just don’t fucking get it. They don’t wanna. Because that’s just too inconvenient. I mean FUCK! She can’t even demonstrate the miracles Jesus promised from her Bible. She can’t. Because there’s no evidence he ever did and if she tried walking off of a cliff filled to the rim with “faith”. She’d fall to her death. That’s what Christian faith gets you, bullshit.
