Well yes. I can still remember my first one .I was 13 and it was a shattering experience. In the 60 years since then, I have learned that masturbation is like sex generally.IE it can be as much fun as a sneeze or much much more. Great sex with some one I love have been the most gratifying experiences in my life.
Always wanted to try Tantric sex, but never managed to do. Never found a partner who was at all interested.
Of course, there is only one kind of real bliss in the world and you have found it. Special Pleading Bullshit from a brainwashed dweeb. You should look into Krishna Consciousness next. (Same fucking bullshit.)
The mind is not taking on shapes and forms you silly little rat baby. You just agreed that it was a function of brain. Hey ratty… radiation burns are the evidence of things not seen. Not blind assertions about shit of which you know nothing about.
How do you not know that these “Highs” you speak of are the results of endorphins being released into the brain? Did you not succeed in High School Biology?
I think you have missed the point. Bliss need not lead to the things you claimed it did in your original claim above. I offered two examples of temporary bliss as evidence of that. I was not suggesting you get coked up, then crack one off.
There is a type of bliss (not induced by drugs and not a source of chemical dependency) which pervades the body and allows the mind freedom from preoccupation with the body.
It is at that moment that the mind is no longer preoccupied with the body that it collects and gathers into one cohesive state of mental concentration.
The bliss is known as “sukha”. It consists of a bodily release. For that reason it is suitable for the purposes of supporting one pointed concentration.
If it sounded as though I were saying all bliss leads to concentration, then I apologize. That was not my intention.
Oh Fuck — Bliss my ASS:
There is a type of numbness (sometimes induced by drugs but not dependent on them).
It is that moment when part of the brain separates from the body. A protective mechanism that prevents us from dreaming about running and then waking up seven blocks from our bedroom.
“. As Clemens says, the two were hoping “to develop a timeline that shows what elements of consciousness decline or emerge as people drift into sleep.” Applying linguistic analysis to data from a sleep lab, they found evidence that reflective thought—the ability to evaluate ongoing experience—declined quickly during the hypnagogic state while thoughts about physical interaction with the imaginary world increased, indicating a change in the structure and not just the content of conscious thought.”
All you are doing is bringing mystical vocabulary and preconceived notions of spiritual advancement towards enlightenment during a highly subjective state of sleep.
It is at this moment the mind is no longer preoccupied with the body. It’s state of cohesive consciousness is fragmented and mental concentration diminished. This bliss is known as “Hypnogenic Sleep.” It is a period of bodily release. With practice, anyone can learn to maintain a degree of consciousness through this period and even prolong the hallucinations and delusional thinking.
This is a state of bliss when you define it that way and look for it. It is a state of absolute horror to many sleepers who have no idea at all what is happening to them.
The fact that Religions use this to convince you that you are special is typical of the fundamental strategy of religious idologies. “Usurp natural human states of consciousness and awareness and attribute them to the religion.” ITS ALL HORSESHIT!!! GET OVER IT.
You won’t get anywhere with me by casting a negative light on masturbation. We live in a world where, out of all the sinful things you could do, even the author of the Bible realized it would be stupid to allot a punishment for wanking it. That would be a lot of grain sacrifices.
That I believe that. You’re nuttier than squirrel shit dude. Take your damn meds. I know you don’t think you need them, but it is your “thinker” that is busted. Take 'em.
My “thinker” is so fucked. I read a book or an lengthy article and there’s that little inner voice, right? Mine gets bored and has a mutiny - and refuses to finish the book or article.
And I wasn’t always fucked in the head. But when I look back at all the reading I did as a child I wonder “why did I have my own personal inner voice back then? Was it all an elaborate hoax?”
Now I live with a sardonic demon who finishes my sentences and has this tenacious ability to make me think I’m taking to, oh - I don’t know; my Supervisor for example (and its 11:30 on a Sunday and he’s got to get up at 5:00 in the morning).
My wife tries to keep me grounded. Works sometimes. Not others.
The inner voice is something I miss from my pre-psychosis days. There’s something very soothing about belonging to your own little world where you have the freedom to think whatever you want without intrusive thoughts and without the belief that you’re broadcasting them to the world.
Whatever I said, Killens, I’m sorry. I’m not in the habit of making enemies. I didn’t mean to rub you the wrong way.
I guess I’ll go sulk in the corner until Sheldon replies to our on going “debate”.
Are you serious? If so; fuck! So sorry to hear that. It’s a big deal that you are functioning as well as you seem to be.
I do hope you are taking your meds? Some of your recent posts suggest this may not be the case at the moment. Or is that the best you usually function?
I empathise, having been around several people with scizophrenia in the past. One was a girl to whom I was engaged at the time… A shattering experience.
Are you sure spending time on an internet forum is good for you? If it is helping, I hope you hang around.
PS: An insight I was given by a psychiatric nurse freind, about 40 years ago: To the observer, the schizophrenic often seems to be mentally ‘absent’. In fact he/she is hyper aware of surroundings and people. Does that ring a bell?. I’d like to change that view if it’s wrong.
My ability to function is unusual for my type of diagnosis. I fell in love in the psychiatric ward. Doctors told us we’d never last. 12 years later, here we are - surviving - living the best lives we can.
But she helped me get better. And there came a point when we wanted to live together when even my disability payments wouldn’t cover our living costs (she had a full time job at the time). So, I started working. I am now a fully functional, tax paying citizen
I mean, if you saw me face to face you’d probably never know. I don’t talk to my self. I don’t have any weird twitches. My jokes are far more appropriate in real life than on this forum.
This forum allows me to express my inner world - which is a very fucked up world. I could go into all the different modes I have and all the different weird-ass coping mechanisms I use and all the crazy people I converse with in my head - but it would take a while. Suffice it to say; it’s a jungle in there.
Sure. I know my wife finds it hard sometimes. Feel free to talk to me about it. I could probably relate.
I’m certainly not here to make enemies. I understand I may not be as cogent in my arguments as I like to think.
I’ve abandoned other sites to find those with intelligent people. I used to be intelligent. Atheists are generally intelligent enough to reject the brain washing of organized religion.
Well. I am often so absorbed with my inner world that I have a hard time maintaining a consistent focus on external reality.
I’m usually introverted and (for example) I have a hard time being in the present moment. Ie. absorbing the sounds and the sights around me. It’s something I work on everyday.
My job requires me to be attentive and observant. I do fairly well when I need to.
But I’m not “absent”. There’s a shitload going on in my head (forgive my French).
It’s that blank stare of schizophrenia that generates that kind of idea. I can stare at things for hours - as long as it provides me some rest from my demons.
What a great comment. Doing counseling in psychiatric wards I would run across these group sessions where the therapists (I am a trainer.) would have everyone sit in a circle and say one positive thing about each member of the group. A common technique for “building self esteem and recognizing human worth according to the dipfuck therapists who can not think of what else to do to kill the time.”
So one day I am sitting in one of these sessions and listening to all the praise being heaped onto this guy for his poetry. He has been in and out of the psychiatric care facility since the age of 14. He is the sort of guy, now 23 and living at home, who pretends to be more aware than everyone else, gleans the secret meaning of the universe, and seeks praise at every turn, but if you offer criticism you are stupid and incapable of understanding. A real “Emperor’s New Suit” sort of guy.
So, my turn comes around and I know I have to put a stop to this shit and wake up the therapist who is mind-numbingly running the group.
I praise the guy, not for the poetry, but for his ability to garner praise for his writings from the safety of a bunch of people in a psych ward. Poetry (not that I know anything about poetry) that would have been published were he living in the real world where real talent was appreciated.
As it stands, I told him, you are the best poet in the ward. If that is what you want out of life, you are a success. Congratulations. And any time you are feeling depressed, unloved, or just unappreciated, you can always return to the psych ward where people really understand you and will heap praise on you for being the best writer in the ward. I am happy you are doing so well here.
After the session, the client actually approached me and made comments to the affect that he had been using the psych hospital as an escape. A place to go to, to feel good. He had not realized it before. He was more comfortable in the psych hospital than his own home. He had, in fact, fallen in love with all the positive affirmation bullshit and found a place where he could shine. (It was all bullshit and he realized it for the first time.)
Interesting story. I can’t tell if you’re comparing him to me.
You’re generation has this admirable quality of not giving a single fuck about who you offend or for whatever reason. So forgive me if I can’t tell. Have I missed the point again???
Nonetheless, I fell in love with an actual women who was there for her own reasons.
We’re best friends, and we have a healthy 11 year marriage. We’ve survived the worst of these COVID-19 days. Our jobs were both “essential”. We haven’t taken anything from the government since we both started living together at about a year after my discharge from the hospital.
It’s real love. It’s lasting love. I consider my self a very lucky person for being stuck in that joint when she happened by my way.
I think that’s great ratty. At least something is keeping you grounded. I was specifically commenting on the comment you made and which I quoted. I am specifically aware of cases / people who are institutionalized. The only place they find comfort, boundaries and support are within the walls of institutions.
