Humans writing books trying to explain our existence and getting it wrong. Many other religions of course also were come up by humans too. But waking up to that reality and dropping your (Their) god(s) is something some of these people just refuse to do, even if there’s not a shred of evidence to prove any of them.
About 10 years ago I joined the forum of an orthodox yeshiva (Jewish religious school) I assured them I am not a Muslim and was raised in the Catholic Tradition. My attitude was one of respectful curiosity. I did not argue. I wanted to learn about their beliefs. The Rabbi answered every question asked , including stuff about the Shoah (Holocaust) I actually learned a lot of stuff I didn’t know. In turn I was treated kindly and with respect. (The way I have also been treated by the dozens of Muslims I’ve known in real life over the last 50 odd years.)
IMO many (most?) apologist who come here treat us with great disrespect. They usually show a profound ignorance of atheism, reasoned discussion and the scientific method. Yet are far too arrogant to accept that they might learn here if they open their minds just a bit. t.
Right now we have a text book example of an ignorant muslim, who confirms the depth of his ignorance [even of his own faith] with each post. I really can’t be bothered with the fool.
If such a deity exists, then it clearly doesn’t care whether I know, as I’m in my 55th year now, and though the claims from theists never abate, zero objective evidence is ever demonstrated to support their claims.
Absolutely. When you cant come on a site clearly labelled “atheist” without dribbling your ignorant shite, then maybe it is time for some self evaluation. I would not go on a religious/sect/sectarian site without researching what they actually believe. Then asking for confirmation.
I have done it many times. Most times greeted with courtesy as I ask questions to confirm their (sometimes outlandish/murderous) beliefs.
I have been pursued, stalked and threatened just for asking questions. Fortunately I practice robust internet security.
Most fanatically religious, I find, have difficulty with a keyboard, never mind finding their bum with both hands.
When reading that poor fool, I suddenly realised just how easy it could be to ‘radicalise’ far too many Muslim youths. Industrial strength bullshit absorbed uncritically , those kids can be made to believe anything. All that’s needed is patience and fervent repetition with no actual thinking allowed…
Or am I reading too much into this kid? I say ‘kid’ because he comes across as a sincere but confused adolescent.
God just let another gun toting idiot commit mass murder in Indianapolis it seems.
So much for a perfectly merciful all powerful deity.
The Gun Violence Archive puts the number of gun violence deaths from all causes at 12,395 so far this year in the US, of which 147 were in mass shootings. Last year saw a total of 43.549 deaths, and 610 in mass shootings.
Imo the loopy US gun culture is a special case I’m not able to get my head around. Beginning with what seems to me to be a wilful misunderstanding of the Second Amendment.
Every time someone mentions “the right to bear arms”, I get this picture in my head:
(Doctor Fun was one of the earliest wecomics out there on the internets, and for a long time I followed the series closely. Here’s a link to a complete Doctor Fun Archive for those so inclined.)
Many clearly haven’t read it. Check out this interview at the Trump rally just before the capitol was stormed.
We are doing a remarkably poor job of educating people about government. It’s hard to believe government is actually a class that you are required to take and pass in order to graduate from high school.
" epistemological imprisonment - through which all sentient and sapient aspects of cognition are constrained and distorted (if self-imposed), or (if externally devised) manipulated and controlled for the creation, maintenance, and exploitation of the irreality thus created and the captives within it as means to achieve the ends of the ruling power elite."
I do not fully agree with the article, but this little tidbit did catch my attention.
