Ethics…triage…medical decisions…life choices and COVID

We have “counter-protesters” that are listening to the RCMP and not going out (correction, one small group went, about 100 - but then listened to police instruction) to help ensure there isn’t a confrontation.

There are things I agree with, in part, with the Convoy and other things I do not. There are some, I agree with the delivery of the message, and other parts are disgusting and harmful. :woman_shrugging:t2: like, occupy Wall Street it was a mixed bag.

Mostly “peaceful” - and like any large group incidents that are shameful or illegal.

Personally a weekend gets out the message but 10 days of this it does become a hazard and horrible for the people there that live/work/business. Then there’s the political vultures from all sides exploiting :face_vomiting:

Edited to add- this is what I dislike the most… this “influence” on Canadian conservatives.

So what do I agree with? The right to protest and free speech. BUT also the right to free movement and other folk’s rights.

So the Trucker’s Convoy has moved its funding to GiveSendGo (Christian platform of crowdsourcing)

QUOTE (from Fox interview…)

“It’s very, very fascinating to me that governments have stepped in to that extent, especially in the Western world, because it goes against everything that we know, which is that our rights don’t come from government, they come from God, and that he’s given us those," Wells said. “And it’s the government’s place to ensure security of those rights not to try to take them from us.”

Oh, Jesus fuckin’Christ…

Maybe the government should “ensure security” according to God’s laws (hahahahaha)

Quarantine for masturbation, menstrual, touching a dead body and contagious disease…

Should a repeal of the separation of church and state ever be considered in the U.S., I have no doubt that Fox news will be the eager Ministry of Truth for those in the ‘Bible’s rules only, bitches’ voting category.

Alberta. Very Conservative. He did this before, in the summer and he has no plans to increase our Province’s healthcare capacity (waiting lists).

Reading the article, to summarize- all restrictions pretty much gone AND he’s making clear municipal govt can’t enact their own. :woman_shrugging:t2:

It was anti-fascists, not individuals associated with the protest convoy, responsible for harassing a downtown homeless shelter.

:face_vomiting: of course it was

Ted Cruz (introduction to his bill)

Ted Cruz on Trucker’s Convoy (quote) “As the occupation of Ottawa continues and the convoy’s funds are rapidly building — with a large portion coming from U.S. donors — the idea that the protests could spread to the U.S. is not far off. Republican lawmakers such as Cruz say they’d welcome the demonstrations on the U.S. side of the border.
“I think the Canadian trucker protest is a remarkable uprising and it’s a manifestation of the deep outrage across Canada and across the United States,” Cruz said. “… I think it would be a very good thing if the protest expands.”

We’ll, Ted may just get what he wants.

March 1 is the “call” date for the USA Convoy.

Welcome to Canada and our winters.

Looks like for the next 3 days (cold ). BTW - about 2000 counter-protesters. These are Ottawa citizens. There hasn’t been a call out and people flooding from out of town or country. Just locals. IMO, these locals articulate the vast majority of Canadians.

Goodwin (a vet) said what I was thinking before (especially when I read shit like, “you’ll thank a trucker when you have your freedom”)… quote:

Goodwin called the anti-vaccine mandate protest “a grift.”
“It’s a fantasy. They’re liberating our city from nothing. We have 92 per cent of the population vaccinated, and we’re waiting to open up so we can support our businesses,” he said.

I’ll take my medical advice from truckers when they start taking advice on how to drive a truck from doctors. Fox news and some senators, Ted Cruz and Rand Paul, are doing their best to see the protest spread. They’ve already forgotten what happened to Chris Christy’s political career when he, to extract revenge on a Mayor, closed a major bridge with out warning and someone died because they couldn’t get to a hospital. It’s all fun and games until something bad happens as a result. This has the potential to be really ugly and I hope some the people encouraging the idiocy face some consequences. I can always hope.

Our only politician encouraging and supporting (at this level of illegal activity and blockades) is Pierre Poilievre (I mentioned his debate style in the Canadian Politics thread). He could be a smarter version of tRump (only time will tell).

The interim Opposition Leader (Conservative) is more balanced in her views.

Quote:
Earlier Thursday, Conservative interim leader Candice Bergen called on Freedom Convoy protesters to take down the barricades and go home.
Bergen, who has been sympathetic to truckers since the beginning of the protests in Ottawa, changed her stance and asked for blockades to end. She made the comments as she presented a motion in the House of Commons asking for the end of federal restrictions.

Unusual acts with animals, torturing Tin Men, squeezing Cockatoo babies until their eyes pop out, stepping on garden dwarfs, and banning the annual pug toss. What in the fuk will the government do next?

Outlawing giving bananas to monkeys?

WTF!!! How could anyone even think of anything so evil!!!

It’s been slow here… and I’ve been irritated because almost every religitard on my FB is passing these types of messages (in support of the Convoy). I maybe  about to have myself blocked by another “friend”…

Looking for the feel-good and ignoring reality.

I love my nation, I am a strong advocate for freedoms and democracy. But this entire Covid has been politicized, when it is just a matter of medicine and science.

Until we can reduce that red circle to zero, then all the pretty pictures and spouting crap about freedoms means nothing.

@Whitefire13 If your "friends’ like such wonderful pictures, they need a reality check. This is the reality …

The collision of interest with evidence: the thing that best enables us to make cultural and intellectual progress, IME.

Some of those collisions are more protracted and involve a stronger tendency to bring human suffering and sacrifice to the altar of that interest for no justifiably ethical purpose, it seems.

So it goes.

When the Spanish Flu hit in 1918. It was not politicized, it was treated for what it was, an infectious lethal disease.

Spanish flu baseball

IMO - the medical community needs the funding, supports, hiring and beds to care for the needs of Canadians AND not just Covid. Many test positive once in the hospital, even though that may not be what brought them in initially. The burn out and demands placed on our healthcare workers has been running high for at least 2 years now.

Omnicron variant may be less physically harmful, but nonetheless it is the unvaccinated that are many times more likely to need the ICU or die. It may offer some immunity BUT as we’ve known from the beginning, this is short-lived, so do they just catch the next variant?

Moving towards lifting or relaxing some mandates is fine when balanced with medical capacity/population density/rates of vaccinated.

Expecting international borders to cave to demands of a small group that are medically illiterate (imo throwing a temper tantrum and once again their “freedom/demands” are at the cost to others, and pissing on other freedoms that are just as important) is Freedumb.

Perhaps not as politicized as much as Covid has been, but there was certainly some politicization involved.
