Contemplating the possibility of God

@whitefire13 that is remarkably good advice.

@boomer47 I hope that you are feeling better. Have you tried holding a bit of clove powder in you mouth? It numbs it pretty well.
I’m sorry for your pain. Mouth pain is the worst.

Clove oil is easier to apply, and has similar pain relieving properties. Oddly enough it’s in the film The Marathon Man, that Boomer mentioned. Never used it myself, I have strong prescription pain killers for chronic back pain.

No, I have not yet, but will keep it in mind. Don’t keep clove powder on hand, but I always have whole cloves, which I understand is also good. My brother swears by rum. I suspect that’s because he gets legless and no longer feels the tooth ache. No good for me; I’ve been sober over 18 years and want to stay that way.

Thanks for the tip.

Another good tip, I’ll get some, thanks.

I prefer opioid based painkillers for toothache. However, you now need a script for that here. The strongest over the counter painkiller is Panadol which is of limited use for severe pain.

I was thrilled to discover emergency dental treatment is available, as long as you can pay for it, which I can. (also have private health insurance)

I heard somewhere that severe tooth ache is the closest pain a man can get to child birth. I’m sure one of the mums here will be able to verify or debunk that claim.

@boomer47 I feel the same way as you about alcohol as a Band-Aid. If you have a coffee or spice grinder try grinding your cloves first–as whole cloves are a bit course.
You could use a medium like coconut oil which is antibiotic, and just rub it on the areas that give you pain or swish it around in your mouth.
@Sheldon was right about the clove oil, but it’s substantially more expensive than just making a paste yourself.

You could just buy clove oil. Amazon sell it.

@Sheldon you definitely right about that, and it is probably easier to buy clove oil. It’s just a personal preference for me to start making minor health comforts myself that I thought I’d share.

it is much safer as well since a commercially produced product would presumably be sterile and of a known concentration. Raw herbs can vary in strength by quite a bit.

I’ll look around. My Chemist may sell it. May also be available on Ebay.

I don’t deal with Amazon. I don’t like the way they treat their workers,

Amazon: Of course you can use the restroom when you need too…but you still have to make an astonishingly high quota. Can’t make quota and relieve yourself? How is that my problem?

In the UK, An Amazon warehouse is miles from the nearest town. Workers are obliged to take taxis or whatever. Management couldn’t possibly arrange a bus service-----Workers are of course paid minimum wage.

During the covid19 crisis, the wealth of Amazon’s owner, Jeff Bezos has grown by $90 odd billion. The top billionaires have apparently done quite nicely.

May his testicles burst into flame. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

We homeschooled and were pretty private even before the pandemic, but my children encountered their cousins last Christmas and got horribly ill.
I got sick too. It felt as if there was a literal elephant sitting on my chest for weeks. My nose produced more snot than I thought was humanly possible. I tried EVERYTHING over-the-counter, but nothing worked. Simultaneously, I was trying to do everything I could to keep Josh from getting sick because of his immune system.
It was a horrible upper respiratory illness that I was afraid I would have to go to the hospital for. I am not fond of hospitals for previously stated reasons.
Then Josh began to sniffle.
Out of desperation (because taking Josh to the hospital is an ordeal, as I have previously stated)
I decided to try some naturopathic remedie[…naturopathy recipie deleted by Nyarlathotep…]I kid you not: within 3 minutes I was 90% better. Within a day, I was completely well.
Josh’s illness never progressed past the sniffles.
I’m sure if I’d gone to the hospital and got antibiotics or ordered a bunch of products that may have worked also.
Because that was not ideal for me, I tried a readily available naturopathic method and it worked almost immediately.
It gave me relief.
I’m just sharing my perspective. Thank you for sharing yours, @Nyarlathotep. Happy New Year :balloon:

That is because there are no over-the-counter cures for the kind of illness you are talking about. Which makes me wonder what you were trying.

Naturopathy is pseudoscience.

While there are no pandemic forum rules, I am stunned that you would use this forum to post a naturopathy concoction that repudiates the germ theory of disease during a pandemic that is killing 10,000+ people a day. I’ve stuck my neck out a little and assumed that AR doesn’t want that on it’s website.

A sister to homeopathy.

Must be fair though. If one is gullible enough to believe the superstitions which masquerade as the ineffable wisdom and absolute truths of a divine being, one will believe anything . (meaning no offence to the afflicted)

Found this lecture on line. It’s about science based medicines. This lecture on Naturopathy and herbal medicines.

Seems appropriate.

Seems appropriate that you can see what I’m guessing is a James Randi doll on her shelf in the video image.

ETA: OK, now that I hit play on the video, I see this was made by the JREF. Nice!

Mkay

Why is he wearing handcuffs?

He was a stage magician/escape artist at one time.

Ah, I knew that. It’s a bit obvious. I thought he was making some kind of statement with the doll.

Randi’s Youtube lecture about homeopathy and other quackery is worth watching.
