The sale between the County and the new owner is final December 30th, then we have to start over again with them.
She’s “8 years behind” according to the superficial data. That means she will have 3 months to leave her home after 43 years.
She will lose her home if we don’t prove something else.
I believe it is valuable to post here.
And the local reps office, her radio gardening program, Facebook, the market. I’m thinking of having cards made. I’m terrible with Twitter and Instagram.
I don’t know why, but I feel like someone here can help.

I’m trying to file the necessary paperwork.
An injunction is expensive so I am helping her fill out a indigency affidavit. Then injunction to halt the tax sale.
Courts are tied up.
If it isn’t filed on time, the new owner will get her home on legally on a technicality and we will have to go back to start with the new owner

As much exposure as possible will make it harder to forget her. I think it is the only way to help her keep her home.
Did the judge watch about her on TV for the last week? Did his heart go out to Mama Jordan before he saw her address on his docket?
Who wants to be known as the person who bought a 90 year old war veteran lady’s home with her inside on Christmas and put her out in the cold?

As I said, I don’t watch the news, but I was on Facebook for a little bit and I saw that article about that guy who bought a medicine and Jacked the price way up.
Do you remember how people heckled him? He thought he was going to get rich off the backs of people suffering.
We turned around and showed him what for!
He was shunned and attention to the story had a catalytic role in his imprisonment.
The support of the people changed the world.
Our collective humanity bared universally.
I think that can happen here.
This doesn’t have to be a commonality.
Even if you don’t think you’re anyone influential to this story, just your participation is important.
Even if you just talk about it with a neighbor. The right exposure could change EVERYTHING!
I know a miracle will happen regardless of anyone else here’s participation.
I’ve been praying so hard for Mama Jordan.
This has been such a hard year for her.
But I also think we have a chance to prove our humanity. Before any miracle is necessary.
Even beasts have compassion.
Are we not at least as good as beasts?
Are we still deserving of our throne?
She’s 90. She bought her home the first day that she saw it with her husband, Bob in 1977 for $31,688.
She has lived there for 43 years.
She is a combat veteran.

Her body is just old.
She wants to close her eyes in her home.
She doesn’t even go to the market now, so it’s like asking her to leave the planet to move.

This poor lady is in a horrible situation. She needs the proper support, not hysterical pleading in an atheist forum. You need to focus all of your time and energy into protecting her way of life. That will not be accomplished in here.

If you are referring to people here, I have news for you: No one here needs to prove a thing. I’ve seen more acceptance and compassion here than I’ve ever seen in an equivalent group of believers.***
Perhaps the reason I will not become involved in anything you propose is because I don’t trust you.
My trust is earned. So far all I’ve seen is what seems to be a rather dotty woman incapable of engaging her cerebral cortex.
Trying to set up binary(only two) possibilities is especially dishonest and manipulative, or just plain stupid. Terrible things will happen to some woman I don’t know if I/we don’t help her?
Talking about a miracle if this help this person is superstitious nonsense and another reason I don’t trust or your ilk.
***Guess how long an openly atheist person lasts on Christian forums? I’ve belonged to two. The longest I lasted before being banned was 2 hours. I was respectful and honest only asking honest questions. I concluded those people were every insecure in their faith if they could not tolerate even questions about their beliefs.

@David_Killens This isn’t the only place that I am posting or discussing. I am going the legal route also, but that alone will tie us up in litigation until the house changes hands and we will have to start all over
I’m trying to make this story seen so that Shelby County cannot sweep her entire amazing life into the garbage can.
There are people better equipped to help her for free but she’ll never find them in time without the proper exposure.
I’ve been calling. Her daughter in law in Massachusetts has been calling.
I am filling out tons of forms: indigency affidavit, injunction to halt tax sale, appeal, tax relief and tax freeze application…
@Whitefire13 had a great idea to request her va and tax records in order to prove she wasn’t notified.
I have called the news, the local Representatives, and the VA.
I have been posting to Facebook and now I am speaking to you guys. Not because I think you don’t have compassion, but I DO.
Y’all do your research for less of a cause.

Yesterday, after visiting her–i shouted the situation in a Walgreens and 2 firemen said they knew of some lawyers and judges that they will talk to today and gave me their contact info.
Maybe that will be what works.
For the record–and I don’t even know if it matters to y’all.
I thought a connection was forged. It didn’t have to be large. All that matters was that it was there.
I didn’t feel like I was defending anymore.

Y’all are good people. Bad people’s minds can’t work the way that yours do.
There is such a thing as right and wrong. You wouldn’t let someone harm a child or other helpless being because of ritual or tradition.
You abhor ridiculous and stagnate or destructive edfices meant to blind us.
This is such a situation. It just isn’t religious in nature. It is existential.
What is happening to my friend can happen to all of us. If we let this happen, how can we lay in bed feeling safe?
She is an amazing human.
Smart, funny, and kind. She has done more than more people could imagine and she is still very sharp. If you are 70, she is your mother’s age. If you are 50, she is your grandmother’s age and she is still sharp.
I have so many videos that I haven’t posted anywhere. She can say her alphabet backwards and forwards, all the states in the nation, and all the presidents in like 30 seconds.
Of the 15 to 20 minutes you spent making this post, you could have printed up some flyers and gone door to door. That would have been a more productive use of your time.

Anything can and does happen to ALL of us. We all have a sob story.
I sleep well every night.
How? Well I value my time foremost. Then I value my boys. My health, home and happiness. Then my community (not necessarily my neighbours - one of them is a bitch). Then my Province, Country and Global. I balance out what needs my attention and how one effects (positively or negatively) the other and the well-being of each (to improve).
Did you know globally extreme poverty (about $1-1.25 a day) went from 2 billion in 1990 to about 650 million in 2018?
Still poor? Yup 
but heading in the right direction.

Actually, I am using the same rational brain I use pondering the god question. I approach this as a problem to be solved by rational means, and one thing that jumps out at me involves using time effectively, since you described that there is time pressure.
To assist this women in dire straights, you examine what is the most effective method(s) for the shortest amount of time. Spending minutes, maybe hours delivers minimal results in an atheist forum populated with many not citizens of the USA. It is not cost effective.
A few years ago I received a begging letter ‘to a fellow muslim’ from a lady with cancer. She needed an operation to save her life. I didn’t give her any money because I didn’t believe ‘her’ and wouldn’t be upset if she died.
Millions of anonymous strangers are in dire poverty and die every day, tens of thousands are children. Does that sadden me? Of course it does… Do I lose sleep over it? No I do not . Such realities fall into the category of things about which I can do nothing. World poverty and suffering is systemic ,and apparently far too hard a problem for god(s) to solve,.
The solutions are simple enough, but exceedingly unlikely. It has long been my perception that people living in affluent societies have a certain basic attitude. Viz: we are very much in favour of the have nots having more-----as long as that doesn’t mean we will have less.
I think a seeming indifference to the lives of strangers and a fear of outsiders is almost certainly an important evolutionary function.
