Buddhism - a religion for atheists

Don’t speak for “people” - speak for yourself. Science is built on observation, peer review, falseability. Modelling, maths, direct observation, etc… there is a high criteria and standard for evidence that has to be met.

Well that’s your fault now isn’t it? A person can educate themselves in one field of study and find themselves employed in another,
so what?

Hahahahaha - says YOU… I fuckin’ doubt it! And what “kind” of “smart”? You understand, don’t you that there are different types?

There can be “bottle necks” in funding - society is improving in financing various scientific studies (from technology to physics to medical research to archeology etc)

As far as I’m aware our whole complete society worldwide operates on a money system … so?

You’ll find corruption or fraud in any industry - AND you will find people doing what they love to better mankind and add to humanities’ well being. People do all sorts of things for all sorts of reasons.
Do you know how frauds are found out in the scientific fields?
Do you know why it’s so “competitive”?

Uh…an organization or group) obtain exclusive possession or control of (a trade, commodity, or service); get or keep exclusively to oneself.

So, I can google search peer reviewed papers, check out various scientific organizations, purchase goods, obtain medicines, operate vehicles and fly in planes, eat a wide variety and care for my nutritional needs…

Will certain sciences obtain copyrights or protect their technologies from other countries? Yes.

Do they make money? Yes. They earn it.

Hahahahaha - nice try!!! Not even fucking close.

What? That a pretty blanket, unspecific statement. War? Sure. Nuclear waste- uh huh, awareness of our changing climate, yup. Unforeseen consequences- science is warning and working to correct, slow down, understand new ways of doing things, etc.

Humans. Animals and plants. Viruses, bacteria. Sea life… you can observe lethal and destructive behaviour anywhere in nature (including the cosmos). The universe and “life” isn’t gentle, warm and fuzzy.

But, fuck me, humans have also used our brains to make this past century one of the best to be alive in. Throw me back in time, even 100 years and I wouldn’t be alive right now.

I don’t feel the same way you do, my appreciation for life, science and knowledge is too deep. Can definitely recognize issues - but Jesus Christ, name one time in history that there wasn’t a fucking “issue”.

Yes, imo.

Yet Einstein was an unknown clerk in a Swiss patent office when he formulated his epic theories. He was an elite only AFTER his theories were accepted.

I need something catchy to call YOU! That has “tard” in it you horny little chimp.

The Vedas? Well, shit Edna! I done never heard of dows tings! I’ll be damned.

Sarcasm Yeah. I’ve heard of the Vedas. And of the Upanishads and Kundalini.

The use of breath in Indian Meditation is different than in Buddhism. Don’t make me quite the whole sutta. Here’s another link to it

https://www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/mn/mn.118.than.html

" [13] He trains himself, ‘I will breathe in focusing on inconstancy.’ He trains himself, ‘I will breathe out focusing on inconstancy.’ [14] He trains himself, ‘I will breathe in focusing on dispassion [literally, fading].’ He trains himself, ‘I will breathe out focusing on dispassion.’ [15] He trains himself, ‘I will breathe in focusing on cessation.’ He trains himself, ‘I will breathe out focusing on cessation.’ [16] He trains himself, ‘I will breathe in focusing on relinquishment.’ He trains himself, ‘I will breathe out focusing on relinquishment.’

This is particular to the Theravada tradition and aligns succinctly with jhana suttas and transcendental dependent origination suttas.

The use of anicca to bring about dispassion and subsequently “cessation” is a common thread in non-Mahayana Texts.

Are you being serious? To answer your first question the use of I is conventional and purposeful.

To answer your second question I’ll say two words; “inhale” “exhale”.

Right? Breathe in relaxation; breathe out stress.

Then what’s a slack variable, huh?

And it’s also noted that, at the time of his theory of general relativity, maybe two people including Einstein himself understood what he was talking about.

Einstein’s theories will be used to warp space time so that we can pillage other civilizations and squander their raw materials.

Einstein’s E = mc^2 inspired a whole generation of physicists to invent explosives that could level cities.

Every scientific achievement has been usurped for some military purpose or political tool to gain further power over other nations or its own.

My only experience with something of that name was related to the calculus of variation.

It was a small town. I got the highest grades in grade 11 and 12 Math; Physics; Chemistry; and Biology. I was also an honours English student. My final grade in my graduating year was 104%. I was also the valedictorian of my graduating class. I one a $5000 dollar entry scholarship to my Uni. I won 3000 $ in scholarships from my Province. I was book Smart.

The end product is what makes science so competitive. What new material can you manufacture for weapons design? What new plague can you invent for biological warfare? What new chemical and what new disease? What new algorithm for what new AI to fight what new war?

There are Bill Gates types out there. Types who are rich beyond belief and want to change the climate back to normal or fight the next pandemic.

However Antarctica isn’t getting any bigger. The polar bears aren’t getting any fatter, and the world is in the grips of a pandemic.

However; thank whatever celestial body you like for the work Biologists are doing right now to find a vaccine.

… and then compare it to the American landscape right now.

The average social group is a slovenly drunkard compared to the average scientist.

That 10,000 years before fire was successfully replicated in a controlled setting.

Okay. Well. The intricate details of Linear Systems is practicably not relevant to the linear progression of this thread. Although, it has been on a tangent for quite some time now.

That’s just so sad, Reliving the past over and over because you have nothing going on in the present and no future to look forward to. Have you thought of exiting life and simply joining a Buddhist cult or something like that?

You remind me of the drunks that line up at the bar for cocktails every day after work and repeat the same ole bullshit stories about their high school days over and over and over. It gets even worse if there is a football game on the screen. Every drunk in the bar knows just how the game could have been won because when they were playing back in the day…

YOU JUST SOUND SICK!

I have a wife; a cat; car payments; rent; an aging mother; and many other fetters binding me to a worldly life. Of course, I’ve thought about it many times. I’d go homeless. Buy some really good camping gear. Winters are harsh up north. Maybe some flannel underwear to keep my balls warm.

The funny thing about having no future; and being stuck in the past is that if you’re living with repressed memories, you have to wake up every single day and learn how to let that shit go.

Because the only way to live in the present and look forward to the future is to NOT be stuck in the past. If there’s no space left in your memory banks because there’s a clog in the sink, you simply can’t move on. You relive the trauma every day. It doesn’t matter if you were five when it happened to you. Those same insecurities or destructive drives (viz. giving up; walking away from a supportive marriage; sabotaging things with drugs and alcohol) - they follow you everywhere.

My life is a survival game. My wife is also in survival mode. We can’t all be haughty taughty University Intellectuals with properties here and there underneath our six figure pay check - now can we, monkey Man?

You’re the psych. Tell me how to unclog the sink?

Edit: if I sound sick, it’s because I am. Remember? Killens won’t talk to me. Believes any discussion will do more harm than good.

But trust me. I’m a fuck load more sane than any Bible Thumping Christian who lands here - or 6ix Breezy for example. AND I’ve been through way, way, way more shit than a lot of those theists.

I see through the delusions and the lies. I AM on the path to purity and brightness. I will BE one with the cosmos!!! I will greet the OverLord at the gates of Heaven with the faithful EvilOne watching over my shoulders as I enter that never ending bright light!!!

The rat hath spoken!!!

Umm, no. Many understood his hypothesis. But no one could accept it because it had not been proven. Only when Eddington made his famous observations of an eclipse in 1919 was Einstein’s theory proven and accepted. Only then did Einstein become a rock star.

And what mechanism will be utilized to achieve this?

And it also opened up a greater understanding of this universe, and many other great discoveries that benefit mnkind.

That is the nature of man, not a fault of scientific discoveries. When the first man discovered that a stick offered greater range than his arms, technology was used for violence.

Rat_spit, are you truly so pessimistic of mankind or just pranking me?

I’m spiteful. Very spiteful. Of the system. Everyone has an ulterior motive.

We are living in the age of the “lie”. And everyone believes it. No one cares about the truth.

Will expand later. Much to do.

So do you think your mental exercises are working for you? One should assume that such mental exercises you practice would offer peace of mind and tranquility.

Seriously dude, although we may throw shit at each other, I do care about your welfare. I sincerely suggest you examine those metal exercises for the results they bring to you and ponder alternate solutions.

It does. The above is transcendental dependent origination. The Buddha’s yard stick for progress along meditation. So far I’m doing well. However insight reveals the inherent greed everywhere.

Elon Musk said something very interesting on a Joe Rogan Podcast. He said that our Limbic system hasn’t caught up with our cerebral cortex.

In other words we keep inventing and innovating but we are always overpower by a need to survive, by a deep seated mistrust for our fellow man, by a deep seated need to fuck and fornicate.

The easiest way to make a living in this world is to take. There many forms of taking - simply taking what you want from someone else to satisfy your needs. And “taking” happens on a massive scale. It is an outcome of a primitive limbic system - a barbaric way of living by appropriating.

And then there’s those who give - what do they receive in return? Maybe enough to survive pay check to pay check.

Yeah? He also said there would be 1,000,000 robo-taxis on the streets of the United States in the next year (which would be 2020). How did that work out?

The spice

Jiggly monsters shooting light out of their buttholes while high on melange seems to be the most current trend

I thought 2020 would be the year of “woo whoo”. Turns out it’s the year of “Wu Han”.

He’s otherwise successful. Let’s not hate on Elon, now.

He is a notorious liar.

He’s a bit of a media whore too, isn’t he?

Well, he’s no Donald Trump
