And do we presume that the lawmakers eliminating rape and incest exceptions will give a shred of genuine concern about those fetuses once they leave their mothers?
They might.
And I might be the King of Spain.

The bill failed to advance but they still approved a lot of restrictions. Abortion only up to 12 weeks after the rape and still has to be reported to law enforcement. I don’t think these men understand what rape is and certainly can’t imagine it as something that can happen to them. I think they would all benefit from a private showing of the movie “Deliverance”. That depicted rape in all it’s humiliation and violence. They can then deliberate how eager they’d be to let the world know what happened to them, let alone what it would be like to carry that monster’s child.
As a healthcare worker, I find abortion to be a really, really, sticky, uncomfortable subject.
I am pro choice, but I also believe in certain limitations.
The idea behind the pro life position is that there are no grey areas when it comes to human life when–considering the world that we live in–grey areas are all over the place.
My position is that elective abortion should be guided by fetal brain development.
We use brain function as a guideline when determining whether or not a patient hooked up to life support is brain dead, and brain deterioration (in such diseases as Alzheimer’s and Huntington’s) to define whether or not a person should be resusitated . . . so I believe that brain development should be considered in determining when elective abortion should be allowed . . . not heartbeat, as a brain dead person on life support (perhaps awaiting organ harvest) still has a heartbeat.
It’s my understanding (which may be wrong, as I need to research the subject better) that brain development at 5 months of pregnancy is when the fetus may be capable of experiencing pain and having it translated into the cerebral cortex, so maybe 5 to 5 1/2 months is when elective abortion starts to become a moral and ethical issue.
Of course this all goes out the window if mom’s life is at stake, and this goes out the window if the fetus is seriously abnormal, damaged, or badly deformed.
So . . . what constitutes “deformed” or “damaged”?
This is another grey area.
People (when discussing abortion) often seem to require “absolute certainty” on specific points, and absolute certainty simply doesn’t exist in the world that we live in. There will always be innocent people executed for crimes that they didn’t commit when we have the death penalty, there will be failures in the design of seatbelts and airbags that will kill people during car accidents, and stray bullets will always kill innocent children when cops shoot at gun-toting criminals. If we require absolute certainty in everything that we do . . . then we would still be in the dark ages, as there would be no modern medicine. As an example that supports this last point, a certain percentage of people will die from an allergic reaction when using penicillin . . . yet this doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t treat pneumonia or strep throat.
The real world requires us to affirm that perfection does not exist, and we need to consider this point when pondering abortion law.
I can’t even discuss it in public or at work because people tend to get very hostile about it.
Missouri is really Anti-Choice and they all use the “Abortion is murder” argument while trying to intimidate you into the position that “you’re wrong or immoral”. They don’t care that the fetus is not sentient. The Anti Choice argument is all about the fetus just being human and and they stick with that argument. So all we will continue to get back from Pro-Life is “But it’s a human being, that’s murder.” repeatedly.
I noticed Anti Choice center their entire argument on women “irresponsibly” getting an abortion in the Third and Fourth Trimesters. They assume that Pro-Choice are irresponsible and evil people. When really; don’t most women seek an abortion in the First Trimester as soon as they find out they’re pregnant?
It’s not even a mature debate most of the time with Pro-Life supporters do is just repeat “It’s human so it’s murder” argument like a broken record and start trying to destroy your integrity on the subject.
I’m not American.
Anyway, there is no point in trying to save baby Jesus by outlawing abortion.
Baby Jesus has more than likely been aborted or swallowed by now.

Interesting. Excellent English Skills. May I ask??? I am always envious of polyglots. I have lived in Korea for 25 years and I just don’t have the language gene. I know enough to survive. Actually, I can generally figure out Spanish, German, and Koran, but beyond survival mode, Map reading, Money, Taxis, and Shopping, I can’t do a damn thing. I survive quite well, but I really don’t speak the languages.
I live in Canada.
I’m from Finland.
Have a good one.
Cool! I have been to Finland. Stayed in Kolari. The train ride from Helsinki was fucking amazing. Land of a million lakes. What was most amazing is that Finland actually looks like a postcard. You know when you take a photo how bright and clear the photo appears when compared to reality. Finlad actually looks that way. I imagine Canada to be quite nice as well. Got to get up there some day. Kiitos (I learned to say, "Thank you.’ In every country I have ever been to.
물론이죠
Languages are always of great interest.
What do you call someone who speaks three languages? Trilingual.
What do you call someone who speaks two languages? Bilingual.
What do you call someone who speaks one language? An American.
This is a really sad truth; and probably one of the reasons Americans are known throughout the world as ‘shit travelers.’ We are also isolated from the rest of the world, sitting over there in North America with our Canadian Minions and 3ed world neighbors to the south that we use for slave labor and tacos. It’s a very sad thing that we have so many language illiterate people in the USA. (Ignorance is bliss.) And here I am in Korea. I do not take Korean lessons. I have not actually learned the language. Koreans speak enough English, and I speak just enough Korean to survive. Honestly, that is really kinda fucked up after 25 years.
What do you call a person that makes gross generalizations ?
You may want to meet more Americans.
Fact: Americans are not a race of people.
EVERYONE in New York eats hotdogs…
…they all do
J/K !!!!!!!!!!!!
Pirate radio! Pirate Radio.
Ivan Pavlov.
When a dog’s saliva starts to build up enough, it’s gross.
Ivan Pavlov made some good points imo.
Dogs R cool.
wrong thread, I will go to an on topic thread now
byeee
I’ve met hundreds, if not thousands, of Americans, and the vast majority of them speak only English. My statement may have been a generalization, but it wasn’t a gross generalization.
Did I ever say they were?
I be Catholic and therefore pro-life. I don’t think any woman has the right to murder her own baby.
It’s a shame your mother felt the same way. Look what happened. Still, when life gives you lemons, why not make lemonaid. This serves as absolute uncontroversial evidence that when a woman wants to abort her child she should be allowd to do it and the Church should not try to stop her.
