The impetus for reviving and ultimately passing this bill is to silence groups who are pro-Palestinian. They just don’t like all those pesky students organizing their voices against Netanyahu’s mission of domination.
It is, imo, another step toward silencing the voices of groups disliked by those in power. I think, based on maga rhetoric, it’s naive to think it will not be weaponized over the next four years.

Would bet dollars to donuts that Gaetz withdrew as a tactic to keep the results of the investigation of him away from the public eye. I’d also bet that his withdraw was because of pressure put on him by the others named in that investigation report.
It’s well-known that Washington leaks like a sieve, so I’m assuming someone will “accidently” leave a copy of the report on a table in a bar, or put it on an insecure server, or send a copy on the sly to the NYT or WaPo.

You may be right but I think it’s Trump’s need for his cabinet to be loyal to him which means “obey”, whatever the cost. He has said he wants to drastically change the department of Education perhaps even closing it.

I am not a US tax payer of course, but if it sends Musk to Mars, I will be happy to chip in what I can afford, if he promises to take the Donald with him, I’ll re-mortgage my house.

In the past, I’ve offered up the opinion, and repeatedly in various places, that tne USA is turning into Burkina Gaso with stealth bombers. I now revise this - the USA is going full tilt off the cliff to become Somalia with stealth bombers.
I suspect I should have read The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, to gain better historical insight into the process, but I suspect the lesson I would have taken away from doing so, would be that civilisations collapse when they disappear up the arse of their most ridiculous fantasies. And the USA is about to do just this.
If the rest of Western Civilisation doesn’t want to dragged down the shitter with Trumpistan, it had better start thinking seriously about plugging the forthcoming geopolitical vacuum with something relatively sane and benign, and fast. Because the alternatives are too fucking horrible to contemplate. A Russian empire? Chinese hegemony?
