I have just lost any last vestiges of faith in my countrymen.

My biggest concern is about Project 2025.

the good news: Trump promised to end the war in Israel and the Ukraine on his first day in office, we have that to look forward too!

In our household this morning, we are spending some time looking at cheap real estate in countries with relaxed immigration rules.

So you don’t have to live in a country run by a misogynistic sociopath who has access to the nuclear football? So your daughters won’t have to die from a failed pregnancy?

Yep, there’s that. I don’t want to live in a place that openly celebrates and promotes bigotry of any kind. My daughters are aging out but granddaughters are at risk of death. Fuck! Just fuck!!!
Mostly it’s a financial decision. We are both on Social Security and figure it will be gone soon. He said he won’t cancel it but I just don’t believe that. Either way, his plans show program insolvency on the horizon.
Additionally, we both have medical issues that will likely be put in the pre-existing conditions category and not covered once Medicare is changed to an all Medicare Advantage (privatized) system. Just one of my meds retails for about 10k a month in the U.S. He’s promised cancellation of Medicare’s ability to negotiate prices with drug companies.
Another problem will be a steeply increased cost of living because of Stupid’s tariffs, tax cuts for the wealthy, deregulation, and immigration plans.
Top of the list options right now are Portugal, Costa Rica, Greece, and Spain. Started a spreadsheet with about 25 categories for ratings. It will take some research but should shake out the best possibilities.

I’m already over it; as I’ve been saying all along; we lost a long time ago.

You all sound like a bunch of entitled, hyperbolic snow flakes. It’s the end of the world as we know it. Jesus fucking christ.
I’m looking forward to lower energy prices, grocery prices, our borders being closed to anyone who tries to enter the US illegally, and lowering the government’s wasting of our tax dollars. And deporting as many illegals as we can catch.
USA!, USA!, USA!, USA!
Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on your way out.

I’m in favor of democracy so much; that I think the people like you should get what you want, as I do believe Trump won the election. :person_shrugging:

I wish that wasn’t the case, but that seems to be reality.

What you are not going to find me doing is posting a bunch of lies here when someone I didn’t like won an election; you remember: exactly what you did 4 years ago?

The style and substance of your response to my post is, sadly, not surprising. It represents the maga culture quite well.
I honestly hope you do get the economic results you think will come via the results of this election.
I also hope that none of the women whom you love ever experience an ectopic pregnancy.
I hope you don’t lose all the socialist benefits upon which you suckle.
I hope all the people you know and care for who are immigrants or the children of immigrants remain safe.
I hope the Christian Nationalists don’t get even more of a foothold to attack you for your atheism.
I hope your medical issues are not considered pre-existing conditions and so are no longer covered.
I hope your children and grandchildren don’t see more of their rights evaporate.
I hope your children and grandchildren are never discriminated against for anything without avenues for remediation.
I hope you, and anyone for whom you care, are never surveillanced without a warrant.
I hope your voting rights are never suppressed.
I hope your children and grandchildren retain access to birth control.
I hope your progeny will be able to breathe without risk.
I hope your loved ones will not experience diphtheria, pertussis, the measles, tetanus, polio, hepatitis, HPV cancer, tuberculosis, mumps, typhoid, yellow fever, or rubella.
I hope all these things and more, even while that door is hitting me in the ass…

At least they’re not planning a violent insurrection, to overthrow a legal election, based on petulant lies, and one ought to remember that the right to peacefully express any view, is an essential component of a free democracy.

Assuming that a man who seems about as trustworthy as an angry rattlesnake delivers any of that, one wonders what the cost might be.

I’d to like to think I’d be a little more gracious than that if an election went my way, but then look at your role model, perhaps this kind of unnecessarily crass and aggressive outburst is inevitable. I do wonder sometimes why victory in an election is not enough for some?

Exactly what occurred to me, I am reminded of the response by many in the US during the protests against the Vietnam war, love it or leave it, and if only they alone had the right to decide what their country was. Some people have a very poor grasp of what democracy is I am afraid.

I don’t believe Trump being re-elected is going to be anything but positive for our country, and hopefully the rest of the globe as well.
None of the things you listed are going to become reality, they just live in your biased ideology of how the world needs to function. It’s your way or the highway.
The outlook for my wife and kids, and our 4 grandkids has only gotten better knowing that our federal government are going to put the needs of it’s citizens ahead of the rest of the worlds problems.
Close the southern border, enforce the existing laws, no more money for Ukraine, and energy independence to start.
Your list of “hopes” is pretty expansive, and fucking ridiculous and hysterical, just like everyone here who’s responded by saying anything that wasn’t expected. It’s the same crap the mainstream media have telling us for the past 8 years, we’re Nazi’s, racist, misogynists, transphobic, zionists’, etc.
It’s all a load of shit, we just want a safe, prosperous, peaceful life for our families, that’s it. We don’t care who you fuck, who you live with or marry, whatever pronouns you feel compelled to use for yourself, just keep it to yourself. The entire world doesn’t care, and doesn’t need/want to hear it.
Identity politics and the main stream media are dead, thanks to this election. I think that if you go through with it, you and every other celebrity that said they were going to move to Canada should get together and form a commune. Then you’ll know what having a egotistical, narcissistic, wanna be dictator telling you what to do, and how to live.

There wasn’t a fucking insurrection on Jan 6th and you know it. People have been put in prison for the violation of trespassing? Really? How many people have been convicted of insurrection? How many guns were confiscated that day? Zero.

And nobody died right? The police that were killed just were napping and died in their sleep? Fuck me delusion is right there in your post. Did you actually watch ANY of the REAL TIME footage?

When the christo-fascists knock on your door who are you going to call?

It’s difficult to see how defunding NATO will prove to be positive for the other members. A more equitable contribution is required, but threatening to pull out while Putin is conducting a war of conquest against Ukraine was reckless in the extreme, if he makes good on that threat, well positive is not the word I’d use. High ranking US diplomats of longstanding who worked with trump during his first tenure, have described him as extremely inept at foreign policy.

The two are not mutually exclusive, this a lie politicians sometimes peddle to stoke fear, often demonising a chosen demographic to use as a scapegoat, with lazy, and often duplicitous stereotyping.

The same laws control the border under Biden as Trump, and the idea you can “close” it is something of a misnomer, again it feeds into fears people hold about immigration, not all of which are sound. The idea that the Biden administration “flung open” the borders is facile and inaccurate.

The US has existing trade deals with many of its NATO and Eu allies, handing Ukraine over to Putin seems like a disastrous foreign policy, the ramification are widespread for the US and go beyond trade as well.

Which ones did you have a problem with and why? Responding with sweeping rhetoric is pretty pointless.

Can’t say I’ve seen this in the (US) mainstream media, though it would surprise me to learn you don’t think some people hold such views, or that Trump has expressed views that either directly express those ideas, or at least feed into them, by creating lazy stereotyping and facile or black and white claims on complex issues.

Do you imagine there is anyone, who does not want that for themselves and their families? Or indeed for others and their famillies?

Why does hearing it bother you, and why do you imagine anyone in a free society should be allowed to tell others what they can say?

There absolutely was a violent insurrection, and I absolutely know it, I saw it live, and have read explicit plans from many of the perpetrators later uncovered in detail from law enforcement agencies, that outlined kidnap and worse. All with one goal in mind, to stop the peaceful transition of power after a legal election.

Trump made ludicrous lies up at the very start of this one that there was widespread cheating, if you believe him why aren’t you outraged and demanding a recount?

Is violent trespass not illegal in the US, does the crime never carry the possibility of a custodial sentence then? If someone smashed their way into your home at the head of a rioting mob, I can’t imagine you’d shrug it off as a harmless bit of sightseeing?

I give up, how many? Also what’s your point?

Insurrection

  1. a violent uprising against an authority or government.

It looked violent when I saw it live, and every time since, and Trump’s speech that preceded it seemed pretty unequivocal.

Straw man fallacy.

Even if the violence had caused only minor injuries, it wouldn’t change the fact that the intent was to violently oppose, and stop or disrupt the peaceful transition of power, in a legal election result, this is evidenced beyond any reasonable doubt, with evidence from multiple law enforcement bodies demonstrating the intent, if we didn’t have Trump’s ow rhetoric on Jan 6th, and the lies he peddled before and after the fact.

Or the speech from Trump that preceded it, and explicitly called for supporter to “fight like hell” to stop the government from its lawful business in ratifying the election result.
