“One of the greatest wordsmiths”, I heartily agree. And he was one of the most anti-semitic wordsmiths too, although yes, he was writing for the intolerant paying mob attending the Globe, reflecting the English zietgiest of 1605 when everyone hoped and expected the Jew to be a villain.
However, after this lovely dissertation on mercy with which Portia lectures Shylock , she manages to withhold any smidgeon of Christian mercy for the Jew for his not totally unjustified resentment against the racist Antonio, his ridiculous pound of flesh demand notwithstanding. As Balthazar the male lawyer she skilfully arranges to have him charged with attempted murder of a Christian, deprives him of all his wealth in compensation payouts and forces him convert to Christianity. The milk was not strained merely soured.
But still William will always make more sense than any longwinded diatribe most theists make here.

Careful sonny, I resemble that word.
Although a sensible and modest request, don’t hold your breath.
So far have never run across a theist here who will concede not knowing everything he needs to know or the possibility of error.
