Okay, that complete redaction is funny, but seriously, what’s to keep them from redacting every mention of Trump?
There’s nothing to keep them from doing anything in principle; it’s a lawless regime and the DOJ is acting as Trump’s personal lawyer. It’s just that they are incredibly inept and disorganized at this lying business and most other things they try to do, and there are still public servants holding on by their fingernails within all these government orgs who probably are preserving at least some of it.
If I were them I’d be busy deleting all digital evidence, including wiping backup tapes, and shredding paper evidence. But there’s another factor in play there: an awareness on the part of many actors that the regime’s hold on power is slipping and any action like the above that they can be personally connected to by evidence or testimony means potential jail time in the foreseeable future.
But then authoritarians are more known for being drunk on power and full of hubris than on having foresight.

They certainly can do that, however, many folks have already seen them without redaction…the victims’ lawyers for instance.

I’m sure Trump is deathly afraid of the discovery process in these types of suits.
His common practice is to either settle a suit before it gets to discovery, or drop it if the defendant won’t settle. Under no circumstances can he let it get to discovery.
