Seems a little harsh, doesn’t it? Maybe you could start out with simply slapping the snot out of them? And if that doesn’t work, then advance to slapping the piss out of them. No need to start out by slapping the shit out of them, is there? Although, in all fairness, at least you didn’t go directly to slapping the stupid out of them. You really do need to warm up a bit before attempting THAT.
Wha…thuh hell? Here we go again accusing the example of purity and innocence of something clearly so antithetical to the very fiber of my being…You guys are un-fucking-believable. Shame on you ![]()
Well…in view of
Or
Or
Then I think that the suggestion of shit extraction via slapping is not only warranted, but indeed an act of obvious and pronounced kindness and generosity.
lmao, we should make Dark Lover be our motivational speaker. He’s starting to grow on me.

Uh, no that is toenail fungus..
gasp no! I just washed it this morning!!! ![]()
Boy howdy, just wait till you see the band/song of the day. The cringe going through my body is like waves of ants under my skin. It’s off putting but I can’t take my eyes off of it.
It’s like the two people discussing the painting of Kramer in Seinfeld.
Wow, that’s an oldie
I believe you’re referring to Sir William Gerald Golding, CBE FRSL.
Well quite, one might be left wondering why if morality is genetic, it differs so wildly.
Good Nazis for example, seemed to find nothing immoral in genocide.
I may have said this before, so forgive me. I think a powerful point to make is that you can still be a good human when you leave behind religion and whatever they think God is. Instead of a person who does good because they are afraid of infernal and/or divine retribution, they can do good for the sake of simply being a good person.
The motivation is important. Doing good because you fear retribution is a little fucked up. You should do good because it’s the right thing to do, not because you’re afraid Jehovah is going to get medieval on your ass.
Or yet more repulsive thought, at least to me - that a human’s basic nature is that of uncontrollable immorality and crime without the control of an imaginary supernatural power.
There’s a meme elsewhere here about psychopaths on a leash…
Most of them are good people despite the fact that they believe the world is ruled by homicidal, genocidal, maniacal, child killing, woman-hating, human sacrificing, incestuous, piece of shit. What is really amazing is how they still manage to do any good at all. (I regard all good that any religion does as Tokenism. I put all human aid organizations in that same category. Take a photo of a starving kid eating a bowl of rice and sell it to your congregation for millions of dollars.)
It is rather amazing. It truly illustrates the fact that truly moral or ethical behavior derives from purely human origins.(read: no god necessary)
That is certainly a good point, no doubt. However, there is another aspect of it most people do not consider. Specifically within the Christian realm, their god will forgive them for just about anything. Also, if a person should “backslide” and do something bad, it is NEVER their fault. “The devil made me do it.” Or, “The Lord was testing me and I failed.” In other words, they do not have to take responsibility for their actions or the decisions they make. It’s either Satan’s fault, or it is “all part of God’s Plan”. And when they fuck up, all they have to do is say, “I’m sorry, Lord. Please forgive my weakness,” and their little world is back to normal as if nothing ever happened. Even worse, friends and family REJOICE in the miracle the Lord provided to bring their poor lost sheep back into the fold. Awwww… ![]()

Face it, giving up never having to be held accountable for your mistakes is not an easy thing to do. Kinda reminds me of a spoiled only child who is never told, “No.”
Completely disagree. Not all people have an internal locus of control. They just don’t have it. They rely on an external locus of control. The studies I’ve seen support the idea that about 75% of the population have an external locus of control. Richard Kahoe has published work in the latter field, suggesting that intrinsic religious orientation correlates positively (and extrinsic religious orientation correlates negatively) with internal locus. Religious people have an external locus of control.
From what I see, most of the people posting regularly on this site have an internal locus of control. That may be an atheistic demographic. I believe the average person has an external locus of control. Probably as much as 80% of the population. We all have some external controls, wives, laws, boundaries at work, etc. But those of us with internal controls know we can violate those bounaries any time we choose to. We follow them out of utility or a personal sense of value. Not because someone in authority told us to follow them or because there is a rule or law. (Also; worth mantioning, no one is ever 100% internal or external. We all have a mix and we all have general tendencies.)
Sorry, that wasn’t specifically clear. If they did it to be a good person, that would be an internal locus of control. They do it because god is watching and because it is what they are supposed to do. That makes it an external locus of control.
Honestly? Maybe I’m giving people in general a little too much credit Cognostic, but I want to believe that people have the ability to do good for the sake of an internal conscience.
There’s some things in this world that I must realistically give up on, but I refuse to give up on people. They have the potential to be good. I must believe that. I must believe that, or else I have to give up on the nearly immediate future, which I will not do.
I think you are projecting. Just because you have an internal conscience does not mean the rest of the world does. Look at cops today; policing for profit and not caring who they fuck. Check behind the desk at an government agency and you will find an asshole that does not give a shit. Try your local DMV. The people that do give a shit, have jobs outside the system and don’t work for bureaucracies How about those mail carriers for UPS that just chuck your packages at over the fence towards the front door? I’m jaded.
I sometimes like to imagine that life is a very funny joke, and only I get it. I larf and larf and larf, well I’m not claiming it’s deep, but is funny. ![]()
With One Caveat: “When you can’t spot the joker in the room, it’s you.” We should not take ourselves too seriously, less we become fools.
