@Kataclismic I do believe I understand your position. And I have noted that you are much more polite than some who have replied to your “request”. And I do not believe it is unreasonable, but you are asking some very independent people to comply with this request.
But where we differ is that I do believe the use of the quote function is a very valuable tool in here, and I am an advocate for this function.
I do not wish you to be unhappy or disappointed, and I hope you do not disengage from this forum.
As a Scientist I know that it’s impossible to prove or disprove something like a god.
It is not subject to experimental verification or falsification.
So I have Faith that there is no god!
Your argument is flawed by assuming some sort of purpose or design behind human development. How do you know that the hermaphrodites you call a mistake are not the only correct ones and those of us with exclusively male or female characteristics are not the mistakes?
Patronizing David about the thread being off topic about “dark matter” when you yourself brought it up. This affirms you as a hypocrite and a “back seat moderator”. You also affirm in that aspect that the rules of the community do not apply to you by behaving as though you are superior to an Administrator.
Calling him “bro” right after which sets condescending tone and therefor is disrespectful. A lot of trolls use condescending tactics to piss off their audience and some of them use these tactics.
Again, here you go being a douche bag. You care little about the topic at hand. Just goading and being condescending while aggravating anyone who posts in the thread. You don’t care about getting an answer. Just fling bullshit like you’ve been doing. I know very well the games you’re playing.
Making demands but your agenda is to TROLL.
Again. You’re being the typical little asshole that you are.
Again. Being a troll.
This does not make you special. Again trolling and putting yourself on a pedestal.
Good. You’re not here for the discussion anyway.
Nope. You’re not being polite. You’re trolling. Therefor I won’t grant you the same courtesy because you don’t deserve it.
You’re lying.
If you don’t like it. Stay off of the Internet. You’re being disrespectful just by demanding that no one quote you. It’s a two way street.
Most Trolls feign innocence and play the victim & play STUPID when they get called out on their bullshit. THAT WOULD BE YOU!
If you quit making demands and being a dipshit. Sure. But I think we both know you’re not here for that.
Not going to happen.
He wasn’t. You’re still trolling and being an asshole.
Wow, that was a waste of time.
Just so you know, those are your opinions. I’ll correct the first one though, with the ENTIRE quote and not just the bit you read:
I brought it up and David made it clear it was a bad analogy. I accepted that and since I didn’t really want to discuss my faux pas, I gave the point to David. Easy on the accusations there.
Everything else was completely polite, and as even David said, I haven’t been unreasonable. Sorry if you think I am.
This is another point where quotes aren’t necessary. You could have wrote everything you did without my quote and it would have stood on its own just fine.
I would disagree on the impossibility of proving a god. If there is one, that would be simple.
But I didn’t ask you to prove anything. The problem is that arguing with theists all this time has made you guys far too anal about your semantics. Maybe if I re-phrase the question you can actually answer it:
Why do you NOT believe that there is a god in existence?
Is that better? Is it easier to answer? Because that’s what my topic is, the reason I don’t believe in god.
At no point did I say that quotes are useless. What I said is that they are overused. When they are used for no practical purpose it annoys me. I just want people to use quotes when they have a practical application and not when they don’t. The thing Sheldon does, annoys the piss out of me. You don’t have to go through my text, pull out every individual sentence and comment on it. It is a waste of time and space when all he has to do is reply to a post with his words. I won’t even get into the half-quotes taken out of context, but that’s Sheldon, and why I have been ignoring him.
Without the quote, on a site like this, it’s not immediately clear to which point one is replying.
Not if she’s hiding!
And I prefaced that with “As a Scientist” because the standards for “Proof” are different than they are for most other kinds of proof. In terms of Scientific Proof, you don’t get to disagree on that point until you have devised an experiment to determine the truth or falshood of the matter.
It is true that you didn’t ask me to prove anything, but (once more, as a Scientist) I do not believe things I cannot prove (or at least devise an experiment that would either prove or disprove the hypothesis).
That has nothing to do with arguing with theists and everything to do with The Scientific Method, which is the basis I use to determine if I choose to believe something.
Doesn’t change anything.
I don’t believe in god because it is not subject to experimental verification (or falsification).
My turn to rephrase to help you : if any concept is such that no experimental verification can even be conceived, whether we have the ability to test it or not, the concept is meaningless to me and I reject it as plausible.
And before you get mad, I used the quote function as it is supposed to be used. Not using it thus is the incorrect way to communicate on a forum!
We don’t all see things the same way and are supposed to be tolerant of our differences. If you can figure out exactly which point I am responding to without the quotes, you don’t have to read them. I find it makes more sense this way, and so I shall use it.
Ok just because your meme above made me laugh I’ll share this tip. If your post is under 20 characters just hit the full stop button, and add enough full stops to bring it to 20 characters or more.
When you hit reply it will edit out all but 3 or 4 of them.
EDIT cancel that, it’s only stopped working…damn, egg on face now…
Actually, the point that I, as a male, am equipped with skin bits necessary to be female implies no design at all. If design were involved then us males wouldn’t need girly bits, for our design as a male wouldn’t include it. Interesting argument though.
I understand your view on the quotes, that’s fine, but just for the sake of argument please note that your comment has my ENTIRE comment in it. No bits are missing. So you replied to the entire thing while copying it out filling space unnecessarily. In addition, because my name is now in your post four times your quoting exceeds the length of my original comment. You can reply to my entire post, without even adding extra words, and it would be just fine. I understand the problem though, because this would be too difficult:
It wouldn’t be simple to prove the existence of a god if she were hiding.
So you resort to this:
It’s just laziness really, and it annoys me. I’m not trying to gripe or complain, just highlighting the facts.
The thread-post is why I don’t believe in any god which has been claimed to have created a man and later created a woman. These religions are responsible for the patriarchal, misogynist society we live in. For the gods previous to the current mono-theistic cultures most people already accept they are myths, even the religious, so they don’t usually rate a mention. As far as any other gods I have very little knowledge of them to believe or disbelieve. Do you have a god I should consider believing in and if so, what evidence do you have for it?
I’m going to drop my feud with you just because you’re not a Theist & give you a chance. I apologize for being hard towards you. However, I’m still going to quote you. Please don’t get upset.
That I strongly agree with you on. A lot of Christian, Muslim, and Hindu men abuse their wives. I firmly believe that religion causes more problems than it solves. if it were up to me. I’d ban all of religion.
What people? Most people I’ve argued with where I live all believe in the existence of “God & Jesus” and are very superstitious.
I’m somewhat of the same. I strongly think all “deities” are fictional until there is objective or demonstrative evidence that convinces me that they are real.
None. I don’t worship or believe in the existence of deities.
Wow, that took me by surprise. Thank you, I appreciate it.
When mentioning previous gods I was referring to the gods and goddesses that the days of the week are named after: Woden, Thor, Frigga, etc… Most people understand that these were names given to the planets. Saturday is the obvious one as the god and planet have the same name today. But nobody accepts Saturn as a god, or do they?

But god is The Hide And Seek Champion of The Universe for over 6,000 years straight!
And seriously, replying to individual points and breaking down the discussion with quotes is the only way it makes any sense to me.
If you think differently, good for you!
But I post in ways that make sense to me, just as you post in ways that make sense to you.
More importantly, I do not post in ways that do not make sense to me.
I’m not trying to gripe or complain, just highlighting the facts.
So, the point is not everyone accepts them as myths, point taken. What’s interesting is that while certain people are ‘choosing’ to worship the Norse gods, it doesn’t actually dictate ‘belief’, more like a ‘just in case’ scenario, technically speaking.
