That was kind of the joke!
Sorry, I couldn’t help myself
Just subtly prodding humour at the theistic way of thinking.

Ok, I missed that sorry.
You are welcome to what;s left. Just don’t let Tin Man see you in the cookie jar. He has not been around much but boy will he be pissed when he sees they all got ate.
Its ok I put a silicone rubber one in the jar. He’s gone to his room with iot. Will take at least 24 hours to realise. It does him good, the silicone stays in his system and lubricates all sorts of tubes.
Oh geez, that is like throwing gasoline on a fire !!!
I have a really old Nexus 5.
Why on Earth would I used such an old phone?
Because it runs Ubuntu-Touch.
So for example: a few months ago when many people were overreacting to Covid19 related software libraries being forcibly downloaded onto people’s phones; I laughed. I assure you, no one can force anything into my phone other than me.
Hehehe I love
that you’re so paranoid (rightfully so). Me??? I gave up my “rights” to any privacy long ago. But I fuck the bots babe!!! Fuck the bots
. They have no fucking clue how to categorize me
Mind you - I don’t know how to categorize myself… Jesus fuckin’Christ
Me too.
Because I lack Ny’s depth of knowledge, I approach my security with a fire wall, antivirus and various other protections which come from extensions such as Ublock. I also have a VPN ,but realise that won’t really protect against hacking.
I also use strong pass words. However, my strongest protection comes from not keeping ANY important information on any device. Nor do I store large files on my PC or Imac. BUT I try not to be complacent.
Had not heard of Ubuntu touch, will look into it. I already use Linux Mint on my laptop—it’s an el cheapo with a crappy Celeron processor which makes it sluggish .Installing and using Linux halved the response time, so I now have an OK laptop.
Fuck…I bought an ASUS withWindows 10. I only rely on their firewall (Nyar is freaking) and I use the same password for about everything.
I know, I know - I’m a walking target …the wet dream of the Globalists!
My PC has windows 10. I use the native firewall, which isn’t too bad. Also AVG, which is one of the free antiviruses. Also use Malewarebytes (free) as an on demand scanner.
As for passwords; I’m bloody hopeless at remembering my passwords. So I use a windows 10 app ‘One note’. I list all my passwords as well as various addresses. I print out a copy every month or so, and keep it in a handy place I won’t forget. There are also some pretty good free password managers around, such as Lastpass.
My laptop has no antivirus because it runs Linux and I only ever connect to my internal network.
That kind of god makes you irresponsible, more than you were before. Seriously, ‘I can do whatever I want to, and god will cleanse me’— that’s the worst arguement I’ve ever heard. I’ve known some intelligent theists, but this person talks with some unintelligible kind of intelligence.
You say, god was the cause of creation as someone who set everything in motion. But, there was no time before Big Bang, in other words, time itself began with the Bang Bang. Since, there was no time before big bang, there could be no cause or creator for the Big Bang. Cause cannot exist without time. So, I’ll will not say that the ‘hypothesis of God’ is wrong or right, per say, but God is utterly irrelevant in the the theory of the origin of the universe.
And, I think you’ve used some strong words. Those words were utterly irrelevant to your hypothesis, like your god.
Translation: do as much mean and hateful things as you like, all is forgiven.
The problem with this is that people might think you are an ***hole. This is why christianity can’t claim the high ground on morality, there are no consequences for bad behavior. In the real world we hold people accountable for doing bad things and reward them when doing good things.
As cybersecurity is my profession, I am going to weigh in here:
Asus branded computer, (brand doesn’t really matter, but asus is definitely one of the better ones, with their usually good driver support,) with windows 10? You are ahead of the curve here. Give yourself extra brownie points if you are quick with installing new window 10 updates. And keep your web browser on it up to date. Drivers, (especially router/networking equipment drivers.) Fortunately: if you turn the features on, much of this is all automated.
Now that is bad. If someone wanted to target you, for whatever reason, they could cause a LOT of damage. I am not going to detail the steps here, but anyone familiar with the tools, could learn everything they could possibly want to know about you in less than an hour of work sitting at their computer.
Step 1, change your primary email password to something completely different that is not “guessable.” If you trust your household, you can even write the pw down on a sticky note next to your keyboard. Then 2 factor authenticate your email password. Once someone with malicious intent knows your primary email and it’s pw, your life is an open book to them, that will give them incredible, invasive insight to your entire digital life. (Which these days is almost everything.)
Step 2: Get yourself a password manager, (like lastpass, it is free!) or if you use an android based phone and chrome, use google’s free password manager that is actually highly convenient, and way, WAY! more secure than your current one password for everything.
Yep, windows firewall is adequate for 99% of the users out there, at least for a home computer.
AVG and Malwarebytes are semi decent tools, that is better than nothing. But DO NOT think this will solve your internet security issues, it can be a somewhat helpful buffer, especially for people not familiar with the myriad of phishing techniques, watering hole attacks, etc.
They just make you a slightly “harder” target. If you have valuable data on your computer that people know about, and they target you, avg, malwarebytes will not stop someone that is determined, and know what they are doing.
Probably nothing to worry about, but do not think just because its running linux and only connected to your LAN, that it is 100% safe. I done lots of IR in medium to large companies, and countless times have had heard the same thing, and still had to clean computers like this. Of course these targets were a lot higher value than one persons, personal laptop, I again stress, this is not immunity. Typically if someone can gain access to your network, they will have access to any device connected to the network, even if those devices are not directly connected to the internet. However, I am of the cybersecurity professional, I see boogeymen everywhere, because that is all I deal with. The chances anyone will even be aware of, or want to access that laptop is very remote.
All great advice Logic, and worth following. But my perspective is that your behavior should also contribute to security. We have all heard the tales of opening some attachment from a source not trusted.
But I also compartmentalize everything. I retain two distinct password setups. One is just casual, where if someone cracks my password, there won’t be any damage. The second is for anything I consider sensitive, such as email.
I keep a little black book for my passwords, and keep in a safe location. When you regularly change passwords once a month, the ole memory can sometimes play tricks. And my passwords come out of a dictionary. I randomly open a page, close my eyes, put my finger on the page, and that one letter under my finger is part of my password. It takes a few moments to do it this way, but my passwords are completely random.
I also keep my life out of the digital world. Even inhere, few know any about me. Not that I don’t like and trust the people I interact with, it is just my personal philosophy.
And avoid porn or dark sites, FFS.
I have all my passwords stored in an encrypted text file on Dropbox (so I have to remember the key, and my Dropbox password).
I strongly agree with that perspective. I could easily build/design a computer that was nearly impenetrable. Requiring state sponsored red team hackers to defeat, just this device would be so restrictive it would be a nearly useless device for just about everyone. To fill the gap between usable, and secure, requires the correct user behavior/attitude towards security.
Oh yeah, I see/hear of it every day for my work. Weaponized docs are huge these days. No matter how much me and other professionals of the industry scream: do not click “allow scripts” on the pop up when opening up a MS word doc, people still do it, all the time. The problem is getting worse, not better, even though everyone in the industry is well aware of this currently popular attack method.
Oh absolutely. While I consider password managers more useful/helpful/faster, a written notebook of PW’s is indeed impossible to crack remotely.
That works, brute force PW’s remotely is not really a thing anymore. With limited attempts, and built in delays, brute force rarely works, unless security is really ancient/bad. I do something similar for the few “master” pw’s I use. (99% of my other pw’s are auto generated using pw management tools.)
I do similar, due to the nature of my work it is impossible to keep my life entirely out of the digital/internet, but I do separate them. Everything for my work is on seperate networks, separate pw systems, seperate computers then my personal life, like posting here. I figured out early on in this stay at home covid, to have my office be only used for work. And all my leisure time with computers/internet, elsewhere.
Well yeah, cool thing is, when only managing your own security, that is fairly easy to accomplish with just a tiny bit of discipline. A company with over 1000 work laptops sitting in people’s homes 24/7 where the whole family has access to the device, during covid, not so much.
I will say, opening up pornhub in a “private/incognito tab” to stream porn videos, is a “low risk” activity. Just do not d/l anything and keep your browser up to date.
In general though, if you are not a high value target (you would know if you were) all you gotta do is be good enough to avoid the bots and script kiddies. Well also do not make enemies with any computer nerds. I have seen/read cases where “revenge/spite” attacks, really fuck up a person’s life hard, long term. Cyber bullying is a real thing, with potentially devastating consequences for the victim, even if none of it is physical.
fuck …three teenage boys
Good post, thanks.
I’m acutely aware that my computers are not 100% safe . Also have an Imac, which I use as backup because it’s old and a bit slow. I have AVG installed .Overkill? Don’t care.
The approach I take is to not keep anything important on any of my computers. I don’t have a master password. However, I tend to use variations of my army number, plus various symbols (&#@ etc) plus upper and lower case letters.

Right now I’m in a snit with my PC. Because of this issue, I recently changed connection from ethernet to Wifi-------An intermittent fault; about once a weak or so , it will fail to connect when I boot it. Sometime it will show connected no internet and sometimes it just shows no internet. Disconnecting and reconnecting doesn’t fix it. PC needs to be rebooted, then it’s fine.---------The Router and PC setting have been tweaked. Even downloaded and installed the correct driver for the mother board (my nerdy mate did, I watched)
Have been on line looking. Have read that this can happen after the last Windows update . That MS are aware and will have a fix some time in the new year. Nerdy mate says this is not the problem. Yeah, there’s a simple solution; put the PC on sleep instead of turning it off. That’s what I had ben doing and probably why I didn’t notice the fault.
–Don’t expect an answer, just venting.
Question: What is your opinion of CCleaner? I have the free version and use it every week or so. I’ve read conflicting opinions about such cleaners. It’s confusing
Hey!!! I just thought of something
Do you think the theists are soooo busy defending Trump, they’ve forgotten about god…
We haven’t had one pass by for awhile (except for Mr Incoherent in the other thread)
