Atheist, Agnostic, Apostate Political Consolidation

Cool…

Well I said one of the reasons and I did so because it was one of the reasons for me. All your reasons are valid but I used this as a starting point for the argument I put forward because it is one of the reasons why atheists wouldn’t want to be politically active specifically as atheists (AAAs).

I fully disagree and have already posted evidence to the contrary. Atheism is growing in Islamic countries as fast as it is in the USA. The younger generation has access to information via computers and the Internet. The simple fact that our friend Munt -munta is on this site bitching about atheists is evidence of the reach of atheism. Do you think he could have done this even 10 years ago? 20? Sites like this and thousands of others are making a difference. The arguments against religious apologetics are becoming known. Atheists all over the world are finding each other and talking to one another over the internet.

I am reminded, as I type of a comment Tin Man made. “Were it not for the Internet and his involvement online, he never would have known a neighbor of his was an atheist.” He is along in a sea of Christians surrounded by a pagan. I know of one other atheist in my immediate community. I am daily reminded of the religious beliefs of those around me, My office mate has crosses plastered on the wall of his cubicle. (Likely to protect himself against me). I am the minority even here in Korea. Were it not for the online resources, I would have virtually no contact with like-minded people whatsoever. Now I ask, how is our friend, stuck in an Islamic country, different from that? Atheists and atheism are where you find them, and you must look. That is the nature of Atheism.

I strongly believe that our friend is an ungrateful individual who fails to truly recognize and value the significance that platforms like this bring to his life. He wants to sit on his ass and whine while all the while the one person that can actually do something is him. Shall I remind everyone who the founder of this site is and where he came from?

Regarding your salutation - I am in 100% agreement.

Pakistan? Have you seen the recent videos on Pakistan? It seems to be keeping up with the rest of the Islamic world. (This guy is singing to the choir and his posts are not interesting at all. What he really needs to do is open his eyes to all that is happening in his country and how atheism is growing by leaps and bounds.) It is growing in Pakistan the same way it grew in the USA, “Over The Internet.”

I couldn’t agree more. I think that if someone wants something in particular done, they need to “put their money where there mouth is”…it is not incumbent on others to fulfill the wishes of any particular individual. What progress being made by any one or group is because they are actively doing something rather than asking others to do it.
My choice is to support folks who are atheist-curious, those on the fence, those seeking the support of a community, etc by volunteering my time (for years now) as a mod here. I also support the FFRF via donations and vote for candidates and referendums that support separation of religion and government. More than any of that, though, I behave as a decent human being and do so without any gods. This serves as an example that people need not fear the godless. It makes a difference.
If someone wants to be more radical, good on ‘em. But don’t dis me because I am not making the same choices.

Agreed! I think this is a case of “University Bombasity.” I remember my university days, as I delved into diverse social and psychological theories that provided enlightening perspectives on the world surrounding me. Late night esoteric conversations categorizing and solving all the problems of the world. Such is the mind of a university student with no actual life experience. Or, as previously stated, a New York taxi driver with solutions to all the world’s problems. I am reminded of the confrontation faced by a pedantic university student and his theoretical nonsense in a scene from Good Will Hunting.

I agree, and I do want something which is quite particular to be done, and I will be more than happy do everything you mentioned as soon as I have the opportunity, soon. And I hardly think starting a thread in a forum is really asking anyone to do something. This is a discussion, with which I hope many more people engage with because I think it is an important conversation to have. Any “thing doing” is not happening here, for me in particular this is more “idea-sourcing” which can be important depending on the idea.

I don’t think my position is remotely radical. Growing demographics whether be immigrant, ideological or occupational always have to find a way to be visible and politically acknowledged. The AAA community seems to be the only exception, how many of our parades are being celebrated across cities? Are there more LGBTQ+ in any population than AAA? Whenever we make our presence known, it’s almost exclusively because some wrong needs to be corrected. Sure, we are celebrated in many places, the debate stage being one of them, but that stage should be in an electoral debate is all I’m saying. And no one is being dissed here.

And how will “YOU” do that? Is ‘vapidity’ a word?

The scene is more of an illustration of rich kid arrogance doing rote learning versus actual knowledge and understanding of the field. Which is somewhat appropriate here, with pro-creationists presenting stuff they lift more or less verbatim from anti-evolution sites without giving it a good thought and not checking out whether they have already been disproven. Since they have little or no actual knowledge of the field, they think these arguments (which have been debunked and shown false since time immemorial) are compelling and original. So when they are met with resistance, in the form of actual arguments based on actual knowledge of the relevant topics, their only fallback is to bring more of these arguments they learn by heart, and to couple them with diverse fallacies and denial. Or they back out, quietly. Or they go out front to solve it by ways of fists and ugly tricks. As we have seen here with a number of theistic users.

And facts are facts, we have also seen it with the atheist zealots who insist there is not god or take some other 100% non-actually demonstrable position, as I feel our friend is doing.

Of course it is a word. Much like “apparent” or “obvious” or “”accurate” or “applicable” or, in this case, “appropriate”…

Cool, I haven’t noticed any, are you talking about someone specific?

You’ve said your piece, now if you’ve nothing new to add, why are you hanging around?
It seems you’ve said what you’ve come here to say. Some folks disagreed with you. Suck it up and move on…with something new and productive if you have it.

No, my comment was of the general kind. But I’m sure people remember the latest instances the best.

If you think I have said my piece then you move on, you didn’t start this discussion and the way for you to end it is by not engaging with it. I in fact have a few weeks off. Done with the paperwork and hiring process to have my engineering firm running in my absence, done with all my immigration paperwork and updating them, my tuition for the upcoming semester and fare for my plane is paid, received my CS50X and CS50P certificates, got a place to stay near my campus, finished my dental work, moved my mother in with my brother and his family in Michigan, buried my uncle, received my tailored suits and packed them with weeks to spare before I start a new life. I still have my Qiskit Associate certificate and a driving license in Texas to acquire, I also need to get a head start on my paper for my second semester (text removed) but it’s nothing I can’t handle while monitoring this thread. How exactly do you gather I have nothing new to add or I have said what I’ve come here to say? Whoever has better things to do and is disinterested in further engaging with this topic is here because??? I am fully interested in more engagement, and I have recognized which conversations to engage with and give my time to and which ones to ignore and I’m recognizing more by the minute. I am perfectly fine not responding to someone who has

and last I checked I don’t need anyone’s approval to do what I please with my time. If you feel entertained screaming into white space knock yourself out, free and democratic dialogue or monologue, is here for you. If I can learn to live with the dogs that bark outside my apartment at night or with getting on a public bus with people with no sense of personal space, I can live with some extra arcs in my scrolling wheel to respond to comments.

Perhaps because of the many things in which you are oh so impressively engaged, you read my post too quickly to notice I did not “gather” anything….I used the word “if”.

Yeah Cyber! Who in the hell do you think you are! Hey! You ever heard of the FEEDUMB OF SPEECH. You started it! I’m fucking important. I have a banana plantation. I fully support anyone with their own engineering firm and tailored suits. By the way, do you have any idea what a tailored suit costs in Asia third-world country? I gen my suits tailor made for $140.00 I have at least 6 in my closet. They cost nothing.
Here is a guy advertising $170 in Pakistan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUMZd2SxcCg If you pay more you are an idiot. And, I am 100% certain you can find one for less once you know the area. Same as Korea.
WOW! I got a tailor made suit… Oh OOPS! I forgot whose side I was on for a minute there. Yeah! Tailor Made! Nothing like that cheap Wallmart stuff you buy Cyber! And why don’t you have some dental work done? I can recommend a good dentist to you.

I am sure everyone on the site agrees with Muntakim, Cyper is worth ignoring.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha … my side huts, I am in tears… The last time he checked, he did not need your approval to post whatever the hell he wanted to post…

OH GOD HELP ME>>>> THIS IS FUNNY! I have fallen and I can’t get up!

Collin’s dictionary

  1. the state or quality of being vapid; flatness; dullness; insipidity. 2. Word forms: plural vaˈpidities. a dull or uninteresting remark, idea, etc.

Though of course aggressiveness is now also in there, and that just boils my piss, what exactly was wrong with aggression? Much to my chagrin the word humbleness has now also started to appear in dictionaries, I mean humility is a perfectly fine word, fucking humbleness, anyway I digress.

Wtf, why am I only now hearing this? I’ve been paying Tesco and Aldi for my bananas all this time.

I appear to be missing things left and right here, but could you help me clear something up? Am I being perceived as a theist here? Is it because I suggested we can learn politics from the religious groups?

I attended an Islamic institution during which I sat for many Tabliq meet ups which is when I realized the inherent dogma and left the religion. It was also when I realized how easy politics actually is and I don’t mean apostacy laws to keep people in faith or Jihad, I mean fundamental stuff that is in practice in western electoral politics today in the English speaking world at least that originates all the way from the old testament. This shit has been going on for millennia and the playbook has barely changed. This is not something that you are unaware of either, you probably know all of it as you watch it unfold.

If it is just my imagination then please be a bit more direct with me, English is not my first language, and it would help if some responses weren’t so cryptic.
