But they keep saying “But it’s still murder!” and blah blah blah with every argument that I have. What is something that I can use that’s going to shut them up? I just feel like I’m dealing with a brick wall with the Pro-Life group.
I’ll find some good reasons for you, that can’t be used against you or disproven. And we can cycle through reasons to see if it is fool-proof like my intentions, if you want.
I need something against it. Because that’s their go to defense against Pro-Choice. They completely deflect my findings about how women deserve to have a right to their bodies just as much as men do. It’s frustrating arguing with people that keep up that same argument and bring it up every damn time. I’ll say, women have a right to their bodies. They’re argument is always this and it’s very circular: “okay but it’s murder. Okay but you’re ending the life of a possible unborn child, okay but it’s a living thing, okay but it’s murder etc”
I need something that’ll break that wheel of thinking.
Murder is a legal term. Have me arrested or fuck off. Murder: the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another. noun: human being; plural noun: human beings; noun: humanbeing; plural noun: humanbeings
a man, woman, or child of the species Homo sapiens, distinguished from other animals by superior mental development, power of articulate speech, and upright stance.
Under what definition is it murder? The fact that they say it, does not make it so. You can no more murder a cell than you can murder a Tin Man.
I would not use that as an argument, considering that both are at risk of losing their autonomy rights (women it is abortion and birth control, men it is getting a choice in being a parent in general). However, there is a possible comparison that could be used, if I find one.
I’ll find you something. Try to find several things. I’ll also go and see what arguments can be used against it.
@MrDawn My first is that it’s possible to argue that taking the first breath makes someone a person, though I would need to find a way to delve into deeper detail for this. I could also ask some other people for ideas for the arguments.
I think their argument goes with all stages where mothers were terminating a 6 month pregnancy or this month or that month. I don’t know. It’s just a big fucking mess of an argument.
We are not aborting kids after they take their first breath. Nevertheless; I fully agree that we should be allowd to do so. I am in support of the term “Fetus” being extended to the first 16 years of life. That way, if you get a fucking shithead for a child, you can take the little monster to the edge of town and stone him to death, saving the rest of us the trouble.
A lot of it is bullshit. I think Pro-Lifer’s should walk away leave it alone. They bitch when other people mess with parts of the law that they value. This just makes them a hypocrite.
Yo, COG! Check yourself, man! Our darling Drew apparently has not yet had time to read a “study” about satire and sarcasm! Therefore, Drew is not yet an expert on the subject. However, if maybe you type a little slower, he might be able to catch on easier by not having to read so fast.
I’m borderline autistic, so online or offline, I’m going to have a harder time reading sarcasm. Reading people in general, but still, in this case we’re talking about sarcasm. Also, I have written satire before.
When you allow yourself to be dragged down the rabbit-hole of “when does the fetus become a human?” You have already lost the argument.
Because the topic is the rights of the (potential) mother, not the baby. Stick to that topic, ignore the baby argument. That is an argument you can never win.
Are you a believer in self-defense? Yet the current situation in some locations is that the mother is held hostage by the baby, her rights to even live are abandoned. One is forced to carry the baby to term, even though the birth of that child can ruin the mother’s social standing, relationships, health, and the future.
I hold to the belief that only the mother should be allowed to decide. It is her body, something many forget.
That is the kind of argument they hold onto, so it is the kind of argument that they need to be debunked on, is it not? Are we not trying to get them to be supportive of abortion, or at least stop acting laws on it? I thought that was our goal here.
Of course. Equal rights, equal fights. Believe in it 100%. And I shall stand by it. My own mother taught me about this one, and I’m glad. Anyway, sorry, continue.
It’s not the woman they’re concerned with. It’s the baby. You could spout this argument a million times, and they would not care. In order to change their mind, you must understand their mind. Understand what they’re aiming at.
They feel like when an abortion is done, the baby was murdered. They feel for the baby - as they view it as more than a fetus - and they don’t want it to die. They are not TRYING to attack women - they just care about protecting children - but this protection of children (abortion specifically) translates into an attack on women (and trans men that can give birth or wants to). Their goal was never to hurt women. It was to protect women.
That is the heart of their argument. Once you reach here, you can find a way to attack it properly, and end this fight once and for all.
