We can only hope. Though they don’t seem to have much teeth in enforcing their rulings, and there’s no forgetting that much of the supreme court is in his pocket and/or agrees with him.

I very much doubt it has anything to do with reality, even the extremely rare errant or fraudulent vote. Because they never provide evidence for their claims.
The basic problem with this country is that people have (largely because of fundamentalist Christianity) become accustomed to consulting baseless assertions without requiring evidence, concerning whether to morally panic on any given topic. In fact it’s gotten to the point that they look for who, in their particular bubble, is in high dudgeon about what, so they know what to be upset about. It’s lemmings all the way down.

Well, I’m not so sure xtian fundamentalism is the biggest slice of that pie. I would guess it is laziness. And laziness is why some folks are drawn to religion telling them what to do / how to think. Thinking is quite energy consumptive. Some folks shy away from it because of that.
It’s much easier to sit in a La-Z-Boy all day watching Fox News than it is to actually research things for yourself. Mix in some racism, homophobia, and xenophobia and you end up with Trump’s base.

It’s a third of the US population and probably 75% of MAGA but yes there are other factors. I see fundamentalism as more of a catalyst or accelerant, and maybe or maybe not “a” root cause.

It’s almost impossible to get an avowed atheist elected dog catcher. A large part of the population thinks unquestioning belief, no real evidence needed, is the highest of virtues. In fact you’re blessed for doing so.

I think that even for those who are not devoted fundagelicals, these disordered thought habits have so permeated the “Bible belt” and much of the midwest that it has an influence out of proportion to their numbers. I’d wager that many “nones” and probably half of liberal Christians are accustomed to this kind of thinking almost without realizing it.

It’ll be interesting to see how SCOTUS reacts to this. I hope they re-iterate their order and make it even stronger than the original.
For some reason, they worded the original decision ordering the Trump regime to “facilitate” the return of the wrongly deported guy rather than use stronger language. I’m sure this was a calculated move that gave the Trump regime a way out.

Outrageous quotes like this have always been a dime a dozen as these kinds of theists use it to stir up their base. But increasingly this kind of talk is normalizing fascistic thinking and neutralizing public education in the rule of law. While this is “out there” even now, it won’t be for much longer. The only brakes on it now are the degree to which the theocratic fascists might fall out of favor with the other parts of the regime’s coalition (e.g., oligarchs) or stop being useful fools to them.
Also note the projection. They claim that a pride flag normalizes the notion that god accepts LGBTQ people, but what’s really happening is that bigoted covetousness for other’s property is what they are normalizing: god shares their bigotries and everyone else should, too.

I just read the document linked in that article (the statement on christian nationalism and the gospel) and I haven’t had such a good laugh in a long time. These idiots are delusional to a degree I didn’t think possible. It’s also scary in the sense that plenty of people are actually working to make that kind of christian nationalism a reality.
