You know why Biden’s known as Sleepy Joe?
Because when he was president you could sleep at night.

Oh goody, massively more “legal” homicides brought to us by the man who spent $85,000 on ads promoting the execution of 5 teenagers later proven innocent. This is one of the reasons I don’t believe all those people now claiming they had no idea what Trump was like.
The only way I can possibly accept such a pitiful excuse is if they admit that they have lived in an isolated bubble since 2016, and haven’t bothered reading and following the news, not updating themselves on what has been and is happening, and don’t care about anything but their own bank accounts. In other words, that they should be regarded as incompetent voters.
His pro death penalty ads for teenage minorities happened in 1988. He literally advertised himself as a monstrosity way back then, so baby boomers really have no excuse for not knowing what he is. He has, of course, never retracted it.
I have no idea how widely known that piece of information is, but since that is something that happened in the 1980’s I might be willing to give them the benefit of doubt. Even if that is something that even I (a non-USian) is/was aware of.
In any case, in the aftermath of the release of the Epstein files, we (Norway) have seen top diplomats and ex politicians having had their careers brutally ended because they’ve had dealings with Epstein. Not necessarily due to suspicions of sex abuse or involvement in trafficking, but economic dealings, meetings with, and vacations at Epstein’s place. In one particular case, an ex top diplomat is having his life work scrutinised to see if or to what extent this has had an influence on his work. Also, he and his wife — another top diplomat — are under police investigation for corruption for the same reason. One ex politician was terminated from his job as the top leader of an international organisation due to him underplaying and lying about his contact with Epstein. What are the aftermaths in the US?
Not much.
The majority in control (government and finance) here are cis, white, rich, males who appear to believe that anyone not like them exists only for their use. They’ve managed to convince a lot of the citizenry, via their cosplay, that they are acting on the citizenry’s behalf.
Given the openness with which they now seem comfortable demonstrating their behavior, are they actually fomenting a revolution? It may get quite a bit uglier before it starts to get better. No matter how much longer this lasts, it will take decades longer to dig out of it…if we even get the opportunity.
Yeah, that sums it up good. The aftermath is that the Pam Bondi, the world’s biggest suck up Trump ass kisser ever, still ended up being fired as the attorney general because she didn’t do a good enough job of covering up the files even with all the redactions. The new attorney general Todd Blanch has said no more files will be released (even highly redacted ones), and that they are “moving on”.
I have no idea how widely known that piece of information is
The case of the central park jogger who was beaten, gang raped and barely survived and the 5 teens coerced into confessing was big news in the U.S. and still comes up. A law suit bought by the exonerated men against Trump for continued statements against them in a debate in 2024 is still on going from what I can see.
Here, even a royal has had to go to Canossa due to having had some unfortunate contact with Epstein.
Edit: Ex UK prince Andrew was quite a lot more involved, and has seen quite extreme consequences. Our royal had some unfortunate email exchanges with Epstein, and borrowed one of his houses for a vacation.
They get all their “news” from sources like Fox News and Brietbart, and we all know they never report on any of the evil shit Trump does every day.
That counts as not reading & following the news.
From their perspective, that is news and everything else is fake. I don’t know how to combat that as there doesn’t seem to be any legal way to reign in these far right media organizations.
That’s borderline conspiracy theory. I try to read news in a way that gives me the news from different perspectives. Sometimes, the most objective analysis can come from the “opposite” side(*), or from a neutral party. But at the very least, discrepancies between differing analyses reveal that the subject of the matter might not be that clear cut, and further thought and consideration is required.
(*) When it comes to shit presented by the current administration in the WH now, chances are that it is highly distorted. Or “fake news”. Their routine dismissal of any and all analyses but their own gives away their lying agenda.
The two main MAGA types I have any contact with is my oldest surviving brother (age 83) and a guy at the senior citizen’s center (age 96). They clearly are unaware of any form of accurate reporting and uncritically accept Fox News. I have another brother (age 78) who tends to listen to Fox but not exclusively and he’s not MAGA, but even he picks up some of the Fox talking points.
None of these guys are dumb. The older brother is a retired research scientist with a master’s in electrical engineering who designed complicated military systems for a federal contractor – submarine torpedo guidance systems and the like. Yet … they are strangely untethered to reality just the same.
It is really just easier for them I think to not be challenged with different perspectives. They want simple answers. In the case of the older brother he also wants to avoid cognitive dissonance with regards to his fundamentalist religious beliefs. That is so extreme that he’s split with his wife on the issue. His wife has come around because she’s involved in their daughter’s church, where her daughter’s husband, who is hispanic, is pastor. They have had people spirited away in the middle of the night, families afraid to leave their house, unable to work or shop (this is in the Minneapolis area). She’s helped deliver groceries, etc.
But my brother is still wedded to his narratives. Trump is still basically okay, if a little “too brash”; there’s a real immigration “problem” that needs to be “stopped”.
I suppose my bro and his wife represent the yin and yang conflict within Christian nationalism but I worry about people like him who aren’t learning shit from this.
This is the same hotel outside of which Reagan was shot in 1981.
My first thoughts were that this was staged to generate sympathy for Trump and boost his miserable ratings. This time he’ll blame it on Iran
Well…if I were a betting person, I’d lay a couple of bucks on it being a set up, just like Butler PA.
well, he had already sacked the comedians engagedn in case they were cruel to him…so a plot to get out of the dinner…unsurprising.
How did Caroline Leavett know about shots fired hopurs before?
I really wonder what they are trying to accomplish with this, and how they think this will be a good thing for the USA. Unless…this somehow lines the pockets of Trump and his cronies.
Literally everything Trump does is done for one of two reasons: to line his pockets or to keep him out of jail.
