Bah! Just look at Dionysos, the wine god. Everyone knows that wine is not made or enabled by some god. You get it from the wine shops. And Poseidon is supposedly the one responsible for earthquakes? Wrong! Earthquakes come about when the elephants carrying the world fart. And so on.
Possibility is not probability. Itās possible Blue Universe Creating Bunny Rabbits are at the root of all creation. Itās possible it is turtles all the way down. Citing a possibility says nothing at all about what may be probable.
And saying there is stuff we donāt know⦠Therefore God⦠IS, the God of the gaps argument.
I could be wrong but I think, @Curiosity, that folks here may be wondering where youāre going by making the point āthereās stuff we donāt know, so that leaves the possibility that god exists.ā
Nothing explanatory inheres in this remark. If you donāt intend on suggesting how one might get from A to B in discerning how gaps in knowledge leave plenty of room for god to exist, I struggle to see how this wouldnāt be considered merely trolling.
One can squat on any forum and make isolated statements all day; donāt be surprised if fellow attendees try to flesh out a position on a subject that doesnāt seem to be forthcoming.
Thatās fair. I actually lost sight of my own point lol. It is hard to keep up with all the comments, trying to explore them all fairly but it seems impossible.
I guess I am just surprised by how sure everyone is in here. It makes me a bit envious actually, as Iāve never been so sure about anything in my life.
You were arguing for a god of the Gaps beyond current knowledge. You got trashed. And now you are engaged in repressing the memory of the thrashing you received. Itās honestly better to just admit that your position was silly. There is absolutely no reason at all to believe in the probability of a god. Calling it a possibility is akin to calling Santa, the Tooth Fairy, Turtles all the way down, or Eric the Rainbow Farting Unicorn, a possibility. If you canāt prove it wrong⦠Itās possible. Classic, God of the gaps FALLACY.
This is why itās hard to keep up these comments, cause itās hard to sort through all the bullshit comments. Iāve admitted many times already my question wasnāt well thought out, and agreed with multiple people for making good points. What more do you want?
Want fallacy? Read your own posts.
Me: *makes point, asks question.
Cog: dumb comment you troll, just admit your point is silly!!
Me: ya youāre right, good point.
Cog: Ohh!! Classic. You know you are wrong so you step back and change your argument! Classic theist.
PS. It is NOT god of gaps to suggest anything is possible. Ya, turtles all the way down is possible too. And if it is, great!
And now youāre lying & calling everyone elseās comments bullshit and being a troll just because you cant take criticism or scrutiny. You said it. We just called you out on it.
Lol excuse me while I envoke the one true god. OMG. Mr dawn. Please refrain from ad hominem attacks if you are to be taken seriously. Iāll take back my one petty criticism if you take back your 50. That way we can have a good discussion. Fair?
@Curiosity Yes it is God of Gaps when you argue and hint that it is possible. Everyone has called you out. Yet you claim weāre wrong when itās you running your mouth about it.
Sure? Sure of what? I do not recall anybody here stating there absolutely is no god. As for myself, I fully and freely admit I have NO IDEA whether there is a god or not, regardless of if itās the god of the bible or any of the other thousands of gods created by Man over the centuries. Hell, they could ALL be real for all I know. OR, maybe there IS some type of super-advanced all-knowing entity hovering around out there somewhere watching over its little pet-project we call Earth. Who the hell knows? I sure as shit donāt. BUT, until such time as I have been shown some compelling evidence that lends to their existence, my puny little brain will not allow me to expend any energy on believing in any of them. And Iām willing to bet most others here feel the same. This shit aināt rocket science.
I love how you are now trying to tell me what I believe. I am not beholden to either side of the conversation, as the pursuit of truth excludes bias. I am asking questions that lean more towards the possiblity of existence only to seek out any falsehood in your own claims. If you were arguing FOR a god, then I would ask questions leaning the other way. I have to be honest though, I am not getting much from you. The others though, are quite informative.
*edit. Except for maybe cog. Heās obtuse.
*edit edit. Sorry cog, that was a cheap shot. No bad blood.
Bullshit. I never told you what you believe. I merely called you out on your god of gaps argument. You walked into my thread calling me a liar with one of your posts. Guess who the liar is now, hot shot.
Ohh I get it. You were upset when I tried to disagree with your post. Iām sorry Mr Dawn. Youāre right, I shouldnāt have tried to argue with you, I should have just ignored it and taken what you said as truth. That would have been the more honest thing to do it. Sorry.
Iām pretty sure I didnāt call you a liar though.
Take a breath @MrDawn ⦠this is suppose to be fun smile . I re-read your original post which does address the darker issues of scripture which many Christians set aside mentally. Fuck, I did it for the longest time. And yes, via their cognitive dissonance they lie to themselves and others.
For God is not a God of (A)confusion but of peace. 2 Corinthians 14:33. Hahahahahaha (as an example)
