Why do Christians lie about the Bible?

Sorry to hear this, @Sheldon . A $.02, unelicited, YMMV digression:

My reply to such a menacing verbal threat has evolved through various iterations of logic, disputation, conciliatory expression, or simply ignoring the threatener.

As with many processes of excogitation which ideally achieve progress and clarity, though, the content of my retort eventually burgeoned to it’s fully matured end state:

Speaking of JW’s…

I’m probably the only person on the planet who the JW’s AVOID now because I would ask them to come visit me so much. :joy::joy::joy: It’s a shame, too, because sometimes I really do miss the little discussions we would have. Very entertaining.

There are many Christians who don’t believe the Bible to be an infallible work.

So why do they believe in it anyway?

Millions of different people can have millions of different reasons for what they do or don’t believe.

Believing in fiction does not make it non-fiction.

I completely agree. I guess I need 20 characters.

Howdy, Diddley! Good to meet you. Hope you don’t mind my asking, but by any chance is you last name “Squat”? The reason I ask is because for years and years people have been telling me I don’t know Diddley Squat. I was just hoping I would now be able to tell them all I DO know Diddley Squat.

My family goes with the Squatt spelling, but there are many Squats out there as well.

Yeah, but that makes even less sense than the lunatics who believe it is the word of god, imo.

YAY! Finally! :grinning::grinning::grinning:… (…addressing everybody…)… Hey! Listen up, all you Mr. and Miss Know-It-Alls! You can no longer tell me that I don’t know Diddley Squatt! So THERE! :triumph:… Now, is there anybody here named Jack? Last name Schiddt?.. Anybody?.. (…scanning room…)…

While I do initially feel like many believers are liars, I think it really comes from a place of ignorance. Many truly just don’t understand. Most of us in the general population are pretty stupid, after all. If not stupid, just simple. And if there is something that challenges someone’s beliefs, fear of losing identity will often get in the way and make liars of the rest.

Don’t forget though, that your kettle might be black. Your superficially confident post suggests to me that you’ve lied a few times to defend your position as well. What makes you assume your friend is lying, as opposed to YOU simply misunderstanding it…?

@Curiosity

I don’t have to lie to defend my Atheism.

I don’t need to defend a book or the acts of genocidal psychotic Skyfather that Christians are in denial of and argue that exists with what evidence?

I’m not seeing the validity of your argument towards me. I haven’t made any claims. Only pointing out that there are things in the Bible that is obviously bullshit. Clear as day bullshit.

I go by evidenced facts. The Bible obviously and evidently does not.

Because those things thar I listed are stated just that in the Bible itself.

He lied and denied them only to insult me with that very scripture.

And no. He’s not my friend. He’s just some piece of shit I got tired of.

(Toward: MrDawn)

Hidey-ho, Curiosity! Welcome to the AR.

If you don’t mind my asking, just out of curiosity, in what way(s) do you suspect MrDawn of “lying” to “defend” his atheism? Basically, how does a person lie just by stating they do not believe in something?

The whole thing is quite logs…loggin…logicull. Yes, logicull:
If I say that I don’t believe in the old Greek pantheon (Zeus, Poseidon, etc.) it is just a trivial conclusion drawn from the observation of facts, 'cause they clearly do not exist.
If I say that I don’t believe in the Abrahamitic God (Elohim, YHWH, God, Allah) it is clearly a denial of facts, and thus a lie.
Clear as crystalline mud.

LIAR!!!

You can’t name one thing in the bible that is bullshit.

“I” on the other hand, being a connoisseur of all matters pertaining to ‘shit.’ can factually state the following… “The bible is indeed full of shit.”

[Ezekiel 4:15]
Then he said to me, “See, I assign to you cow’s dung instead of human dung, on which you may prepare your bread.”

[Ezekiel 4:12]
And you shall eat it as a barley cake, baking it in their sight on human dung.”

[Luke 13:8]
And he answered him, ‘Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and put on manure.

[Isaiah 25:10]
For the hand of the Lord will rest on this mountain, and Moab shall be trampled down in his place, as straw is trampled down in a dunghill.

So the Bible truely is full of shit. Or did you mean, “Shit!” There is plenty of that in the bible too.

[John 3:16-17]
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

@cognistic I actually LoLd at this.

I personally never believe anyone who feels so strongly one way or the other. Left wing socialists and right wing nuts (American politics) are equally guilty of disingenuous arguments. My opinion is most things as complicated as spiritual belief should always leave room for doubt. The main post implied that the author was “correct” and the Christian was “wrong”. I’m not even suggesting that that isn’t the case, simply that anyone that feels that confident in any belief we should be suspicious of. Even in science, any good scientist doubts his own theory’s to some degree. I’m simply pointing out there doesn’t seem to be any degree of doubt in this persons post. Maybe I’m just missing it?

I am also always skeptical of any Christian that spews hate. Nothing is more infuriating to me that a hypocrite. I’m sorry this shitbag said those things to you.
