Whoo hoo! Is it enough?

One of the ways I’m handling the result is to give people what they want. I’m opposed to racism, sexism, treating trans people like crap, etc. But it appears I’m in the minority; and I think the majority should get what they want and it seem that is what they want. So be it. :person_shrugging:t6:

I no longer feel obliged to support those less fortunate than myself.
p.s. In a perverse way, it is kind of liberating.

Certainly not direct control. But because the POTUS, House, and Senate will now all be red, they have the uncontrolled opportunity to enact laws and institute policies that favor an environment for the relative handful of corporations who control the availability of commodities to run rampant with increased price gouging.

There’s still the possibility that the House will go blue. As of this morning, something like 38 House seats were still up for grabs.

Buckle up, because it’s going to be like riding a mean, angry bull in a rodeo.

“Marjorie Taylor Greene re-elected to Georgia House seat, posts triumphant video from Mar-a-Lago”

I am a little surprised MTG knows what year it is tbh, do people just see Democrat and Republican, and vote accordingly regardless?

Scratch that, I think I know the answer already.

In some areas, yes. In most of the South, Democrats are demonized and vilified.

"Greene said last Thursday in a post on X: “Yes they can control the weather. It’s ridiculous for anyone to lie and say it can’t be done.”

*One of Greene’s GOP colleagues, Rep. Carlos Giménez of Florida, wrote in response on X on Wednesday morning: "Humans cannot create or control hurricanes.Anyone who thinks they can, needs to have their head examined."

Maybe it might be prudent for someone to have (MTG’s) head examined?

We’re talking about a woman who thought the Nazi’s secret police were called the Gazpacho. Someone who claimed the government intended to force people to eat “fake” meat, grown by Bill Gates in a “peachtree dish”. Or her claim that Californian wild fires were caused by Jewish space lasers.

Seriously, who the fuck votes for someone that stupid, and bigoted? Why would anyone want someone like that in public office, let alone representing them in Congress?

They’re two-faced on this. On the one hand, we can control the weather to create hurricanes. On the other, we can’t affect the climate, therefore global warming is a hoax.

Likely the same as those who voted to elect a person that is, IMHO, a human pile of garbage to represent the U.S. on the world stage. Again.

Speaking of rubbish, Greene today floated the implication that she deserves a spot in Trump’s cabinet. The theater of the absurd, indeed.

Secretary of Ignorance isn’t a cabinet position.

Pretty much, but it’s not unheard of to split a ticket. The thing is that Republicans are committed obstructionist. If they can they will often block bills they’re actually for just to undermine the other party. To hell with what’s good for the country. They recently did it to an immigration bill so Trump could claim Biden wasn’t doing anything. The majority party in the Senate has the Speaker of the House position and they set the calendar and agendas. That’s why O’bama didn’t get to fill a vacant supreme court seat. The Republican Speaker simply never scheduled it for a vote. Don’t most people vote along party lines where you are?

Yeah, the irony was eclipsed slightly by the rank stupidity of her claim, but the irony was not entirely lost one me. Or her equally asinine claim that forest wildfires are being caused by Jewish space lasers, but lax gun ownership laws, are in no way causal in gun deaths in the US ranking 2nd in the world.

Whilst she is no doubt impressively ignorant, her problem is rank stupidity, and having read and listened to her, I am not sure it’s solvable, an IQ test for anyone running for public office might help solve the issue for everyone else though.

Oh hell yes, but the words inept and corrupt seem to be losing all meaning with the likes of MTG and Trump. I can’t imagine anyone being elected PM if they had a criminal conviction, let alone 34 separate criminal convictions. Though many MP’s do have criminal records, some even serving time in prison. There was an online petition to stop anyone with a criminal record from being elected as an MP. Might be worth starting one for US presidential candidates, though it might be a little late this time, and SPOTUS seem to going in an entirely opposite direction, extending impunity over criminal acts for elected presidents.

The danger with that is the possibility political rivals will trump up charges against an opponent and convict them in a friendly court, thus rendering them ineligible to run for president.

Trump’s been very busy this last week appointing a bunch of unqualified idiots to his cabinet. I guess when you elect a clown, you get a circus.

Add Robert Kennedy, Jr. being nominated to head the Department of Health and Human Services.

To say he thinks outside of evidence and scientific consensus and deals in misinformation is putting it politely.

I’d be surprised if lobbyists and the Dem party don’t work hard to keep him from getting appointed.

The Senate is going to be between a rock and a hard place: confirm Trump’s nominations and look like idiots, or deny them and piss off Trump.

Love your optimism @SodaAnt

Yeah, I know it’s probably misplaced…
