When government has a sense of humor

Do you have any examples of a government agency showing a good sense of humor?

The Dept. of Transportation for state in which I live names its snowplows. They are called Clark W. Blizzwald, Betty Whiteout, Plow Chicka Plow Plow, and The Big LePlowski.

There was the recent joke about a local council raising thousands for children’s charities, by inviting the public to name their new gritting truck. The winner was “Gary Gritter”, closed followed by Sir Jimmy Gravel.

I doubt the council’s sense of humour extended that far though.

That reminds me of the prison inmates tasked with making decals for Vermont cop cars. They put the outline of a pig in a cows spots. It went on 30 cars and wasn’t spotted for a year. At least in public it was somewhat taken in stride and they’ve never pin pointed a culprit. They did trace it to a female run print shop. For some reason I feel a twinge of pride at this. See, see, we’re capable of the same shit men are. I do have a sneaky suspicion that someone paid a price for this. I doubt the states sense of humor stretched that far.

And then you have the Boaty McBoatface story.

As an Internet Rabbit Hole Warrior, I read that the naming of snowplows started in Scotland. Why does this not surprise me?

If the prank was traced to a female-run print shop, why do you think it was done by prison inmates? Was there a connection between the inmates and the print shop, or is that just an assumption?
Just curious!

Oh dear, I hope you’re not experiencing gender bias to the extent that you can’t picture women committing crimes and being inmates? That would be verrrrrry old school . It was a prison print shop staffed by female inmates.
