I don’t have any trouble seeing why people believe. Most people were indoctrinated as children by the people they love, as were those people. Many of the beliefs are extremely comforting. To be told death isn’t final, and that you’ll live in paradise and see your loved ones again is very appealing. Most don’t question much or look too close because they want to believe these things.

This is something I love to say. I’m more than happy to let God judge me. Why? That’s how sure I am that God doesn’t exist, and even in the impossible event that it DOES exist, it sure as fucking shit isn’t worthy of anybody’s worship.

This might also have something to do with the way children learn many tasks, by imitation and overimitation (where children copy behavior that is not needed), and can change their mind about how an object functions if the steps they imitate include unecessary and silly actions.

Just a personal note. Leaving the JWs I was not sure that Jehovah didn’t exist. I had just figured out that I was more loving than Him. Based on that understanding, I figured if He wants to kill me at Armageddon, so be it! Non-existence was preferred over eternal life on the earthly paradise offered with Elders and the Society (JW.org) ruling…
