We're not just animals. We're worse. We are animals trapped in a factory farm that we created for ourselves

people say that life is a jungle or a dark forest but see those industrial-scale agricultural facilities that raise large numbers of animals, often thousands, in confined, indoor environments to maximize meat, milk, and egg production at minimum cost?

Yeah, we’re that. humanity created those facilities for themselves, figuratively

“The Industrial Revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race.”

If you don’t recognize that quote, I’ll get back to it later. Just think about it for a second. For now, just picture the changes of society in general during the 20th century.

Purpose before that was largely based on survival. As the 20th century unfolds purpose shifts to one centered around identity. The risk of autonomy is surrendered for the stability of a time clock.

Not for everyone, though. The Industrial Revolution tossed aside the yoke of traditional propertied land ownership based dynastic wealth. I would argue that the rise and dominance of what is seen as the 1% is just a polite extension of robber barons of a gilded age.

So, if you feel like you’re living in a numbered cage awaiting your inevitable fate, it might be the evolutionary mismatch of the society you find yourself in.

This diatribe is a seriously summarized and over simplification of the topic…but I hope you get the idea.

The original quote came from Industrial Society and Its Future published in the Washington Post 30 years ago. While flawed and biased, giving it a read now does give one food for thought. The author was Ted Kaczynski.
