It’s the huge numbers of people who still believe in Trump and his lies that is so disturbing. Literally nothing can change their minds. It parallels religion in the unshakeable belief in unevidenced things and doesn’t show any likely hood of people coming to their senses any time soon.
Sadly there seems to be a “type” who believe conspiracy theories, and facts and evidence are very unlikely to sway them.
Unsurprisingly perhaps is that research suggests it is linked to ego, and their view of themselves, feeling important and smart enough to “know” something others can’t see.
Such people are perfect shills for an unscrupulous and opportunistic liar like Trump.
Also unsurprising is that they tend to believe conspiracy theories that most closely mirror beliefs they already hold. So when staunch right wing conservatives, inclined to believe in conspiracies, being told by a republican president they view as a hero, and the only hope for America, before a single vote is cast in a vital election, that the only way they can lose is by fraud, the outcome was almost inevitable. This of course is not say such people only belong to one extreme of the political spectrum, it would be a mistake to believe that. Rather we should all guard against bias, by subjecting all claims to proper and rigorous scrutiny, and shape our beliefs in line with where objective evidence leads.
Remember @vicillinden asking “how exactly has Trump ruined democracy” in the US? Well how long do we think it will be, if ever, such people ever again believe their elections are legal? Except ironically of course, when they win, the irony seems to be one more thing their belief in conspiracies is impervious to.
And the same people who back Trump are also keeping this coronavirus pandemic going.
The Governor of Iowa just lifted mask mandates for her state…what the heck? It is, as if, these Trump supporting Republicans just want to keep this coronavirus pandemic going indefinitely, resulting in MORE needless death and suffering. Talk about pure evil, right there! Yes, the same people who want Trump acquitted, also want to keep this coronavirus pandemic going indefinitely. Merde!
My favorite cases of Trump being sued by his own lawyers are the ones where lawyers representing Trump when he was accused of nonpayment by contractors and workers had to sue him for payment.
I was laughing at these.
What is funny is how the Donald lovers try to normalize his behaviour and rationalize it away. It is the most absurd thing I’ve seen my lifetime. Birds of a feather… he appeals to the worst in people.
Gold covered shit.
So Trump has two lawyers pleading his case. On their initial presentation, it was a train wreck, the first, Bruce Castor made a very pathetic and failed presentation. The second, David Schoen, is an orthodox Jew, and come 5:00 PM today, he has to cease any work.
Just when Trump needed Schoen, he will be unavailable.
What a train wreck, and it hasn’t even left the station.
Ahhhh - the new variant is just a trick. A trick to keep you oppressed! Lol.
And those masks! Haven’t you heard of all the damage they DO to your health!!! Come on - think about it - a year medical school and 6 more adapting to wearing a mask if you are interested in becoming a surgeon. And the pay is high for them because of the hazards to their health from wearing a mask
BUT personally, I don’t believe in surgery. They don’t even know how anesthesia works! Let alone the miracle of the human body - AND you’re going to let some mask wearing buffoon just cut you up? How stupid could you be!!! NOW if you need to have something removed from your body, it should be done the natural way, guided by spirit …
DO NOT fall for James Randi or others like him who have an agenda to keep you dumbed-down and a slave to the medical malfeasance designed to keep you broke and sick (a constant customer).
AND as you can obviously observe- THEY are not afraid of viruses or bacteria! ANYONE who knows the truth is set free from fear!
… …
I ve just watched Mitch McConnells speech to the Senate , AFTER the vote to acquit Mr Trump .
An excellent speech, a commanding speech…an accurate summing up opf La Trumps behaviour.
He had FOUR long years to make that speech, four years of immature behaviour, lies and deliberate instilling of doubt about the voting process, gerry mandering etc etc, and the man did NOTHING.
That is why people despair of these politicians.
Noble sentiments AFTER the fact.
Anyway the acquittal is now a fact. La Trump can claim, once again to be “exonerated” (he wasn’t) and go back to inciting the mob.
La Cruz and all the other gutless minnows can now try and capture the trumpista votes in 2024. Will Donald be back, I fucking hope not, but I also suspect he will be up to his neck in lawsuits …and a hefty divorce from Ivanka. That should put a brake on his ambition. If he does run then a mean spirited, semi moron in charge of the US nuclear arsenal…again? Can the world stand this?
That’s democracy I guess. A nasty, cynical kind of democracy…but my time is short, I hope not to see the aftermath of this debacle.
Well, now there’s a Freudian slip if I ever saw one His creepy treatment of his daughter makes me gag. It’s actually Melania he’s married to, ya know.
He had a lot of nerve to give that speech…especially since he’d voted to acquit him so he can do it all again. I’m scared he might actually win another election, I’m also scared he might lose and let loose the flying monkeys again. He’s said he did nothing wrong, and he’s been acquitted, so why wouldn’t he do it again? Trump’s jurors included some of his co-conspirators. I hope if I’m ever on trial my jurors include people that helped me commit the crime.
shiite…I am always mixing those names up. A bit like herr drumpf I suppose, just a lot less orange.
No surprises.
Trump seems to have been a catalyst for revealing the moral bankruptcy of many politicians.
Earlier today, my nerdy mate and I were discussing how different politics would look like here in Oz and in the US if all votes in both the congress and senate were secret. We agree that such a thing would almost certainly be resisted by most political parties–Can’t help but wonder if the outcome of Trump’s impeachments would have been different if every member could vote how he/she wanted without fear of repercussions by their parties or owners.
I’ve thought of that. The old “white/black” marble.
It’s a good method. The “oath” each senator took to remain impartial as jurors…lol. Fuck me. Knew the outcome before the shit show started just because it was tolerated and supported to the very disastrous Capitol siege.
Look on the bright side, Trump is 74, he doesn’t look in very good shape either. In 4 years time I doubt he’ll be a serious contender for a presidential election, and he’s already lost the popular vote twice…
The door has been opened.
Who will walk in?
A more intelligent take-over in the ill defined and most-used “patriot; law and order” mantra or an even dumber version of tRump?
Up until now, the American political parties cannot stomach anything outside their extremes, confirmation-biases, ill-conceived pattern sought conspiracies…choosing fantasies and helplessness. And when faced with their own self-inflicted victimhood the reaction is of violence against the “other” (defined via sweeping generalizations).
I may have my respect for individual Americans, live and learn from their own intelligent contributions, enjoy their humor and insights. BUT as a nation - wholly viewed? Nah. Time and again their “leadership” on the global scale is sadly lacking.
What next for the orange one?
He has left the door open to run again, and he will say he will run. That way he can still have a death grip on the Republican party, be able to hold rallies in order to bask in the adulation of his fans, and fund-raise. He can raise hundreds of millions, withdraw from running at the last moment, and keep the money. Additionally, since he is not holding office, he will not be on the receiving end of so much criticism and scorn, thus sparing his aging obese body from excessive strain.
That way, he can get what satisfies his inner self. Money, adulation, and power. Not as much power from sitting in the oval Office, but still a lot of power. And if he withdraws at the last moment and endorses a candidate, he has that person by the family jewels.
Trump may have many faults, but he is a grand chess master in finding ways to scam money.
Yeah. Hence the term to black ball a person.
My thoughts exactly. Not just that vote but in the general passing of legislation.
Cranky - my smile . I needed to just have a good fucking smile
. Thanks. You’re the best

You’re the best
How kind.
No one has ever said that to me before, even in jest. So back atcha.
Ted Cruz, the Texas senator and Trump voice piece is behaving true to form I see.
Having shamefully used Twitter to mock political opponents from California, when that state was experiencing power and water loss during a spate of wild fires caused by high temperatures and drought, he was recently left with egg on his face when his own state experienced similar chaos in a freezing storm.
Undeterred he chose to do what most of his constituents couldn’t, and leave Texas, jetting off to a luxury resort in Cancun Mexico, for a sunshine break. Leaving Texas in turmoil. There has understandably been something of a backlash, with Texans taking to Twitter demanding he resign.
It’s clear to see he models himself on his equally self centred orange idol.
