This is what Advaita teaches, which I am not a fan of. If the world and our individual self is an illusion, then so is all of our pain and suffering. Unfortunately, that is not true. Our pain and those of all creatures and beings is real. This is why I am not a fan of Advaita Vedanta, and prefer Buddhism instead, as Buddhism is more practical and realistic.
Advaita is a Sanskrit word that translates as ânot twoâ or âno second.â This gives the idea that the inner Self, or Atman , is the same as the Absolute Reality, that is Brahman.
The advaita vedanta Indian school of philosophy is regarded as offering one of the most traditional, classic routes to spiritual enlightenment and liberation. This is a non-dualism philosophy that states that brahman and atman have a complete and essential identity linking them together
The concept of Maya (illusion) is a basic Hindu concept***.
***Part of the Bhaghavad Gita has a part where Maya is discussed. Chapter 7 verse 14:
âSome people claim that Maya is mithyÄ (non-existent). They say that the material energy Maya is a perception created due to our ignorance, but if someone attains spiritual knowledge, Maya will cease to exist. The soul itself is the Ultimate Reality, and once we understand that, all illusions shall dispel. However, this theory is negated by the Bhagavad Gita in this verse. Shree Krishna has already stated that Maya is an extension of His energy and not an illusion. The ĹhwetÄĹhvatar Upaniᚣhad also states:ââ
YupâŚthat pretty much sums up Advaita. The Gita and the Upanishads are earlier than Advaita Vedanta of Adi Shankaracharya, as well as later teachers like Sri Ramana Maharshi.
Life is SUFFERING. (First they create the disease⌠by usurping something that is simply human nature. We all have ups and downs. Pretending the bad times are down and that Buddhism has an answer is a sure way to win. Eventually everyone is up again. Then you can blame it on the Buddha.)
Eeeeewwww⌠are we gonna go all Krishna Consciousness now??? I hope so. I used to live next to a temple when I was young and I got loads of crazy stories of people starving themselves to death.
LOL⌠How true⌠But relief from suffering can be yours if you give up attachment. (well, worldly attachment anyway.) You have to still attach yourself to a few Koans, reincarnation, karma, a shaved head, a cute little orange or yellow uniform, hours of meditation practice and the idea that there is a right way to do it, pretending that mindfulness is something you can chase after and not you now. Silly little Buddhists⌠Can you imagine chopping wood to chop wood or carrying water just to carry water??? HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA ⌠What the fuck for? If you were really in the moment you would not be carrying water⌠what need is there of water in the moment? (Sorry, that was an allusion to a very popular book I once read⌠something about being in the moment. What a fucking stupid idea. What happens in the moment? If you are thinking about it. you are not there.
I do understand. I hate housework, so I rarely do any.
Recently saw an interview with Quentin Crisp. He never did house work, ever. He said âyou donât notice the dirt after four yearsâ
Of course I donât wait quite that long. The moment my feet begin to stick to the kitchen floor, I go straight outside and get the hose. Having a dog to lick up spills means that doesnât happen very often.
If you pay attention to Forrestâs home spun wisdom, heâs about on par with Yoda. He was the strange little Jedi master who spoke an odd form of German English he did.
âThere is no try. There is do or not doâ .Textbook false dichotomy
