That is my basic go-to argument because justice and mercy are contradictory.
Ok, I need to jump in here and clarify…
Yes, the expression patience grasshopper or young grasshopper came from Kung Fu.
However, his post was nearly a quote from my previous response to @SatanicMechanic :
I had preferred to let this be left to the interpretation by @SatanicMechanic and whom ever read it, but…
This is something I have said to some of my friends and acquaintances. Droolarama refers to being an old geezer who drools all of the time. The old man is an “allegorical metaphor” for getting old. The old man is you and despite your denial he is “following” you, and it’s like when occasionally you see someone that reminds you of your own aging ass. Obviously, now you actually see him staring back from the mirror.
So yes, I took the grasshopper thing from Kung Fu, and @rebel1 plagiarized my obtuse humor.
Edit to take a nap
As is the ‘All Powerful God and Hot Dongs.’
Is God all powerful enough that he could make a hot dog so big that he could not shove it up his ass?’ If he can’t make the hotdog, he is not all powerful. If he can’t get it up his ass, he is not all powerful. If he gets it up his ass, he is not all powerful because he did not make it big enough.
An all-knowing god with a plan contradicts a god you can pray to and who intervenes in the daily lives of people having sex the wrong way.
An all-loving God is contradicted by a god that stands in the confessional watching while priests rape little boys. (Well, unless of course God is a card-carrying member of MAMBA.) But if he was, don’t you think the Bible would have said something about it?
One and only God is contradicted by the 10 Commandments. “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”
A hedonistic, murdering, genocidal, piece of shit God is… ummmm… about right.
Weird, makes me think of a poem I once heard
As I was going up the stairs,
I saw a man who wasn’t there.
He wasn’t there again today,
Oh how I wish, I wish he’d go away.
I really can’t wait to be a drooling burden on someone else lol.
Just show a little mercy and hear me out on this. In all fairness, it’s only just to be merciful toward those who show mercy to the just who have no mercy just because mercy was never justly taught to them. See? It just makes sense.
(Edit for merciful justice.)
That must be a terrible blow for your parents - the fact that you’re not a deity’s slave, despite their intentions. I’m happy for them.
I hate the fact that religion is based on slavery. Followers of a religion have a slave / master relationship with their “god of choice”. Theists argue about “free will” but it doesn’t look like free will when you’re faced with only 2 choices. The first choice being you have to say yes & bow and scrape serving a deity for eternity as a slave or be tortured in a fiery dungeon for eternity if you say no. That’s not a choice.
Uh…well I suppose it makes sense in the current context… which frightens and alarms me that I can find anywhere that your familiar mental digressions can make “sense”.
Edit: disturbing definitional cognitive dissonance
Have you heard of the criminal on the cross next to Christ? Jesus told hom “I assure you: Today you will be with me in paradise.”
“The alleged ‘christ’ figure, allegedly (according to unevidenced accounts) told him”
There all fixed up for you. Now what was your point?
Didn’t all of them die?
Was there someone taking notes of the conversations?
It’s a story.
Edited to add: Wasn’t Jesus on earth for 40 days before he ascended to heaven (in the story)? I mean, he sure didn’t go “today”. So the criminal didn’t go “today”. It’s like god saying “in the day you eat from it (the tree) you will surely die”. Adam and Eve didn’t. BUT the snake knew time better “in the day you eat from it you will become like god knowing good and bad”. Immediately after they ate, their eyes were open and they realized they were naked.
For someone who apparently “created” time, god/Jesus sure sucks at measuring and communicating it.
The man on the cross knew Christ had done nothing wrong and was hanging on a cross next to him.
The man on the cross knew he was a criminal and deserved his punishment.
The man on the cross asked to be remembered by Christ.
Christ assured the criminal that he would be in paradise with him.
The man knew about Christ before getting on the cross if he knew Christ had done no wrong, the man recognized who he himself was before getting on the cross, the man recognized what authority Christ had if he was asking to be remembered, Christ was paying the man’s entrance to paradise in full and let him know that he didn’t have to be remembered but be with him.
Thousands upon thousands of people were crucified during Roman rule all over their world. Some were escaping slaves, some refusenicks, some rebels, some because of politics, some for other crimes…so which one was the fictional companion to your prophet? He must have been important to be hung on a cross as the tiddling criminals and rebels were hung off a post.
Oh, your gospel does not say? He cannot have been jewish as it was passover, so how can he have been saved by the Jewish Messiah? Paul and his gentile mission were still decades away.
Please sort this out for me.
Did he hammer his own nails in too?
Bloody impressive feat to crucify yourself.
You sure seem to know an awful lot about some random person who, among shitloads of others, was executed tens of centuries ago from a few lines in a book written decades after the supposed incident.
Ya know, I thought about getting on a cross when I was a kid, but I decided on a pogo stick instead…considerably more fun…and I later learned that some guy named Jesus liked pogo sticks too!
I fucking love this movie.
It nothing to the reliability to not name a criminal. Most historians agree Christ was crucified. There were “Many first-century and early second-century unfriendly Roman sources (i.e., Thallus, Tacitus, Mara Bar-Serapion, and Phlegon) and Jewish spources (i.e., Josephus and the Babylonian Talmud) affirmed and acknowledged that Jesus was crucified and died.”
Additionally, Jesus did save gentiles during his ministry: centurion and canaanite
