Don’t get me wrong . . . I can’t criticize the former USSR without criticizing my own country by similar standards unless I want to be a snob and a hypocrite.
It would take 4 more planets like the Earth to bring every human being up to an American standard of living. Unrestrained capitalism has perpetuated poverty, driven numerous unique species into extinction, and has played a huge role in global warming.
The USA also has an appallingly high infant mortality rate . . . for which there is no excuse.
Even so, don’t try to compare the level of freedom in the USA to the standards of the USSR . . . although I will concede that a strong argument can be made that our freedom and material affluence comes at the expense of creating poverty and misery elsewhere in the world.
