Well you have totally missed the mark once again you ambiguous alloyed amalgamation of aluminum. I’m the prostitute here. Clearly I have an attraction to said form of self idolization. Sheesh, didn’t the man behind the curtain offer you a brain?
Geez! How many times I gotta tell everybody? Straw Boy cut in line in front of me. That’s why HE got the brain. (I also suspect he slipped the Wiz a C-note, but I can’t prove it.)
I was welcomed with a warm welcome at my speech as a Valedictorian.
Warm as a quilt.
Definition of Athiesm from Marriem - Webster:
[Atheism Definition & Meaning - Merriam-Webster]
Definition of atheism
a: a lack of belief or a strong disbelief in the existence of a god or any gods
b: a philosophical or religious position characterized by disbelief in the existence of a god or any gods
I don’t believe in God therefore I am an atheist according to the dictionary, I keep it simple.
and I honestly don’t see myself as self-obsessed or selfish. I am also very self-sacrificing to my wife, friends, and family. We just think different then most people. I live life according to the pleasure principle. sometimes its pleasurable for me to do things for others like my wife or family or giving a homeless person money on the street and sometimes it’s pleasurable to do things for myself. I don’t consider that self-absorbed. I have donated blood for example before and helped out in charitable organizations that help others. Given money to the homeless. I just live my life according to the pleasure principle day by day. One day I may feel it feels pleasurable to me to help others… the next day it may feel pleasurable to be an asshole to others… just depends the mood I am in that day. I don’t consider that self absorbed.
Hmmmm. I guess we will return to [Merriam-Webster]
Definition of self-absorbed
** absorbed in one’s own thoughts, activities, or interests **
How would one measure a level of 'Self Abdorbtion?" How about looking at the frequency of ‘I’ statements in posts? How often does the person making the posts reference themselves using “I” or ‘me?’
DARK LOVER:
Post 75 (+1); Post 84 (+19 - I did not count the inferences or incomplete sentences that could have been completed with a proper noun referencing the self.
RESULTS:
I challenge you to find two posts on the site where anyone has referenced themselves 20 separate times in 2 posts, in the same thread.
When it comes to those of us on the site who might be perceived as ‘self-centered,’ … well… if we were on Cooper’s Hill, chasing a ball of cheese. You, my friend, would be way out in front.
The reason I use “I” too much is really very simple. I was diagnosed with a learning disability as a kid. Very poor grammar and spelling all my life. Several of my family members use “I” a lot in writing too because they also have poor writing abilities because they were diagnosed with a learning disability as well, it tends to run in families.
Here is a hint from a guy who makes more typos than a herd of drunk chimps. I always read my composition, and if it feels awkward in any way, I will go over it a few times, and tweak wording and phrasing so that I am comfortable with the end result.
So, now that you know that, the only reason to continue is pure laziness and an unwillingness to change. Your posts make you sound like a Narcissistic Ass. And let’s face it, you know very little about atheism, morality, or values. ‘Atheism’ has nothing at all to do with any of these. If I say I am an atheist, it tells you NOTHING AT ALL about my sense of right and wrong, morality, social values, or ANYTHING ELSE. You can’t even assume I am a liberal. I tend to be more conservative in many ways. Ex: I am not ‘Pro Abortion.’ I am ‘Pro Abortion’ providing it is not used as a contraception. I am ‘Pro Abortion’ as long as it is not ‘health care.’ In short; I should not have to pay for your abortion after the fifth or sixth time.
“About half of all U.S. women having an abortion have had one previously. This fact—not new, but dramatically underscored in a recent report from the Guttmacher Institute on the characteristics of women having repeat abortions—may surprise and concern some policymakers, even prochoice ones. However, policymakers should be more disturbed by the underlying fact that the unintended pregnancy rate in the United States is so high, and that so many women experience repeat unintended pregnancies.”
I am pro legislation limiting abortion. After two or three, someone may have a mental problem in my opinion. Some professional needs to look into what is happening. I think of abortion as a serious procedure with serious consequences, not an alternative to birth control. I never want to take a woman’s right to control her own body away from her. But seriously; how many abortions does a person need before they figure out they are doing something wrong?
(The Guttmacher Institute is a research and policy NGO that aims to improve sexual and reproductive health and rights worldwide.)
While the article gives good statistics on unwanted births, the stats on the families I worked with for the past 30 years in a NPO, fall into the multiple abortion category. My opinion is based on my own experience. Seeing a woman in counseling who is heading in for her 4th or 5th abortion is life perception-altering. Furthermore; having realistic limits on abortion so that we can identify people with problems, IMO, is a very realistic goal.
Now back to the main topic: Some atheists on the site will agree with me. Some will not. Atheism has NOTHING AT ALL TO DO WITH MORALITY, VALUES, PHILOSOPHY OF LIFE, OR WORLD VIEW. NOTHING Atheism is about one thing and one thing only. It is a response to the question, “Do you believe in God or gods.” To this question, the atheist responds, “No.” That’s it, period. There is nothing more to being an Atheist than that. Not science, not cosmology, where we all came from. Not morality, not values, not world views, not ideologies, and not even personal opinions. NONE OF THIS IS CONNECTED TO BEING AN ATHEIST.
