I’m still trying to wrap my mind around non-theistic religion….so would the local community gardens be one? I mean that just sounds like an organization then.
I am of the same mind. These tactics and babble are what I would expect from a theist attempting to muddy the waters.
One is either a theist or atheist, one admits they are either agnostic or not, and that’s it.
I agree. This entire debate has been complete malarkey. There is no middle ground.
Religions usurp morality from humanity and then assert it is from some form of spiritual origin. This is bullshit. Two people who want to live together make concessions. They agree not to steal from one another. They agree to share during the hard times. They may or may not agree to be kind to those different than them. They agree to be kind to one another. Like monkeys in trees, Elephants in forests, Lions on the savanna, bats in caves, or mammals in the sea, moral behavior forms wherever there is group interaction. Morality is not a religious thing. Thousands of species on this planet exhibit moral behaviors. It is a getting along in a group thing that religions have tried to steal.
And getting the OP to address anything specific is a complete waste of time. He does not know what Atheism is. He does not know what Agnosticism is. He has this amorphous and completely ambiguous concept of non-theism that he is pushing but fails to identify which non-theistic position he is attempting to discuss or why.
He makes inane assertions; ‘Theistic religions can’t evolve.’ He is demonstrably proved to be in error, and still he continues with his bullshit. This is a complete waste of time,
@PirateRadio Hey! I just thought of something!
What about people who worship demigods? Would they be considered half-theists? Inquiring minds want to know.
Your minions will be fine. They can go on believing in the mighty Tin Man from a Galaxy Far Away. (Though calling them people is a stretch. Or were you just trying to get a feel for the topic?) Mushrooms aren’t people.
I also agree with some of the theistic ‘rules’ but not all … that is for certain.
I have it narrowed down to: Do what you will but harm none. (key emphasis on ‘harm none’ )
I also do not hold any supernatural beliefs all though I like some art depicting it.
I do not need to categorize anything as these ’ regimes ’ have names of their own and are not created by me, discussing the atheistic and nontheistic ones is something that I enjoy doing. Religions have a few well known categories: monotheistic, polytheistic, atheistic, nontheistic, animism, abstract/theistic, totemism, and the New Age… but there are more.
This is my current hobby, I also enjoy moral philosophy.
An atheistic Christian, sometimes called a Christian sympathizer is a person that holds Christian values (or at least some of them) but does not believe in the supernatural. They often attend church and take part in ceremony. Some of these people have their own churches, some do not but will attend regular Church services.
I once met with a Lutheran priest who was 100% atheist. About half of his congregation were atheist and the other half theist. All of the atheists in this church were openly atheist including the priest himself. And to my surprise everyone got along just fine.
This thread is extremely hard to follow… I know. heh
This aint my first BBQ.
Keep asking and I will continue to answer to the best of my ability.
You appear to devote a lot of time and effort in cataloging different categories, but how about exploring the actual religions, their practices, and positives and negatives?
This is my personal opinion, but I do not put much stock in philosophy. Possibly because I perceive the world in a mechanical fashion, but also understanding that although philosophy may lead us to asking very interesting questions, it can not be trusted in arriving at any conclusions.
One of the greatest philosophers of all time, Aristotle, arrived at incorrect assumptions of the nature of this universe.
Although I really appreciate that his world view was the foundation of a very cool movie. There are the four elements, water, earth, fire, and air. And in the heavens, the "aether” of the heavens. The Fifth Element.
It is very difficult to wrap ones mind around atheistic and/or nontheistic religion. They are not your mainstream religions and they hardly make the news. Most of us have been thought that a religion needs a deity or the supernatural in order to qualify as a religion, it simply does not. In my personal opinion, for a religion to truly evolve and become useful as a guiding principle of rules of some kind, it needs to drop the idea of oppressing people through fear, hell fire and eternal servitude. Once the supernatural element is removed and all is left behind are the moral principles and/or rules, ritual and some sort of symbolism, what you have left is an atheistic Or a non theistic religion. I can provide Satanic examples if that is something that interests you (your user name looks satanic for some reason).
What is the difference between this concept and my bowling league?
And I do protest, atheism is NOT a religion.
Uh, please define/specify “Christian values” as used in this context. Do you mean the Christian value of forcing a female to marry her rapist? Or maybe the Christian value of stoning disrespectful children to death? Sacrificing your own child to please god is always a favorite value. And certainly we must not forget about owning other humans as property. That one never gets old. Anyway, just curious…

It takes sometime to get to that part as the explanation is long and complex. It is very difficult to paint a proper picture of a religion without some comparison and context to other religions.
Even to google some of this stuff is difficult, you must ask a very specific question and you still must dig deep for an answer or a clue. I feel google to be bias and it seems to give the mainstream answer to a general question most of the time.
I have provided some example of nontheistic religion above, do a quick rewind and take a peek. (pls be kind and rewind)
I have read all of your posts. IMO you appear to paint (with a very broad brush) anything that may have any connection to religion as a religion.
I wanted to include the video I shared as a part of the explanation as well as an example of a non theistic religion as per request.
Here it is … Again
Here is a shorter version. This one is a quicker overview but does not give a proper in depth idea imo.
Here is the short version again. Same as I posted above.
Here is an example of a very strange Atheistic Religion. ( Unlike the above video, this religion call themselves Atheistic instead of Nontheistic What is the Raëlian Religion? - YouTube unlike the previous example)
Slavoj Zizek — Atheist Christianity - YouTube
This should keep yas busy fer a couple of days?
I reject your assertion that atheism is a religion.
edit to add:
It does not matter how many “intellectuals” or videos you throw out, atheism is just one thing, non -acceptance in a god or gods.
That is the sole criteria I use.
