It says women are “secretly” leaving. I sure didn’t realize it. I knew church attendance is going down, but it must be a mass exodus of women since they had higher numbers in the first place. Many churches don’t seem to get it. They want our money and the labor that keeps a church thriving but are doubling down on women being second class. Oh, and they want our kids to carry it all forward. Most churches really are in big trouble if this is happening. This web site is really cranking out these videos. I wish I knew more about who’s behind it. They are cheering me up though .
I wonder how anyone would “secretly” leave. I think he just means “discreetly”, without a lot of fanfare. I certainly saw a lot of people “drift away”, just stop attending and Move On. That is what I did as well.
For all the patriarchy behind most churches, though, from what I observed, women had a fuck-ton of “soft power” in that environment and were not without influence. If the men are left to themselves they will run it into the ground all the faster. Sounds great to me!
Sounds like a Gen Z thing…like the “quiet quit” trend a few years ago. To me, the tell in this is the percentage of Gen Z women who identify as feminist.
When you have an institution, like the Church, whose all male leadership removes the gnostic gospel of Mary Magdalene…which wasn’t enough, as a few hundred years later the Pope decries her as a whore…all in the name of minimizing women’s influence and cementing the patriarchy…yeah, that’s gonna be a real problem with feminists.
Not that the following 1800 years was a shining bowl of inclusion. This history may play well to male Gen Z, but I can understand why there’s a vacuum created when all the Gen Z women head for the door.
Christianity didn’t get what it wanted, it got what is asked for. Last one out gets the lights…
I think the title saying it was “secret” was an attention getter. The video portrayed more like you said, women drifting away, with COVID giving an excuse to stop altogether. I had not been aware of the trend though. Women had been the dominant church goers in the U.S for many years.
Oh yeah, but there have been some prominent attempts to curb any gains of power recently, notably with the Southern Baptist. Which isn’t surprising if they have more men in the pews. It will likely drive away even more women. Sounds like a death spiral that they are determined to speed up.
