“But then I sigh, and, with a piece of scripture,
Tell them that God bids us do good for evil:
And thus I clothe my naked villainy
With odd old ends stol’n forth of holy writ,
And seem a saint, when most I play the devil.”
An aerial view of the White House demolition taken by someone flying out of DC today. Looks like the east wing is basically dust. For orientation, the west wing is to the left of the main structure of the White house and the large building on the right is the Treasury.
According to what I’ve read, this ballroom they’re building is 90,000 square feet, almost twice the size of the White House, and that’s probably before the east wing was demolished. Also the firms hired to do the work have a reputation for doing lots of doric column-laden architecture beloved by despots worldwide. Doubtless they will also do his planned triumphal arch with a gold statue of Trump on top.
He could have also done something legal. This is vandalism by a cretin who plans to never leave. Any substantive changes, especially demolition or additions, would in the past have gone through a review by all stakeholders as the President is just a tenant of the People’s House, not an owner.
It’s also of a piece with what he’s done to the Oval Office – every time you see it, there’s more gold leaf over hardware store adhesive flourishes, and this ballroom will be a giant example of that, judging from the drawings he’s showing.
He claims he’s using his own money to build it but of course that’s also horseshit. He’s getting corporate sponsorships (aka: bought influence) for the ballroom and a his personal wealth comes from crypto scams, merch sales, bribes and protection money and other forms of tribute.
Seems Agent Orange got his peace prize after all. Not the one he wanted, but it’s a consolation prize.

“The fact that millions of people share the same vices does not make these vices virtues, the fact that they share so many errors does not make the errors to be truths, and the fact that millions of people share the same form of mental pathology does not make these people sane.”
The Onion has become irrelevant these days because every day I read absurd and ridiculous headlines in The New York Times, the Washington Post, and other mainline publications, that were once the sole domain of The Onion.
