Is there finally an argument for the existence of God?

So, anything you cannot predict is considered unreal.

Well…

No, it’s considered unpredicted.

So, there could be real things that are unpredictable, and there could be real things that are not quantifiable?

Wow. You just don’t know how to read, do you? There are real things that are unpredicted. If there is something real that is unpredictable, how in the hell would you know it? (Seriously, is everything just a verbal game to you? You’re just posting because you think no one is up to catching your bullshit?)

Stephen Frye, Hugh Laurie, and Rowan Atkinson in the same show, I love Black Adder.
Oh yeah, and Baldrick(Tony Robinson).

Rik Mayall, Tim McInnerny, Miranda Richardson, Brian Blessed, Robbie Coltrane, Ade Edmondson, Jim Broadbent, even Tom Baker does a cameo, and of course Miriam Margolyes…a stellar cast…

I have you know, Mr. Smarty Pants, I happen to know MANY things about which I know nothing. And the fact I cannot predict what those things are for real is simply further proof that I know nothing about them. So, just because I happen to know what I don’t know, it’s not MY fault that you DON’T know what you don’t know. You should know better.

What about…something that is unreal? Would you know if it was predictable? If you don’t know, then doesn’t that mean that it is possible? And and how do you explain my experience of predicting an unreal thing without knowing it?
Unreal things may have experiences too ya know…

Edit for unreality check

Well basically @Quim’s gets to simply assume based on how the belief makes him feel. Let’s take another stab at this:

See you and I and all the rational people know that possibility has to be demonstrated, so what @Quim is saying is that not being able to demonstrate that something is impossible, means it might be possible.

Now, here’s the clever bit, the phrase “might be possible” is the same as the phrase “might not be possible” he has told us precisely nothing. Yet is pretending that we are denying the possibility, even though he hasn’t demonstrated that sentient rocks or a deity are possible, and implying we are the ones who are being biased.

So basically he is asserting atheists are biased for not accepting something because it might, or might not, be possible. It’s a none too clever use of an argumentum ad ignorantiam fallacy, and a bit of sophistry using semantics, or his grasp of English is woeful of course, where he simply removes the “might not be possible” part from the assertion, in the pretence this makes the existence of a deity a possibility, and thus disbelieving a deity exists seems unreasonable (to him).

So after weeks of posts, he hasn’t presented any fact or argument that indicates a deity is even possible, and of course not one shred of objective evidence that one exists. Rather unsurprisingly he has stopped arguing and starting accusing everyone here of bias, and clinging to dogma, and my favourite accused us all of being a sect, to a 13 year old poster looking for answers, warning that poster off talking to us. Then thankfully and finally flounced.

Oh, wow, Shelly! You have INSPIRED me! With all these potential possibilities of known and unknown real and unreal things, I have decided it might be possible for me to go hang gliding from the very tip-top of Mt. Everest! Just imagine how AWESOME that would be! Oh, sure! I know there are those of you out there who are all closed-minded and biased and would tell me it might NOT be possible. But I refuse to be swayed by your negativity and stubborn reluctance to consider all the possibilities. You totally deny any possibility simply because it might not be possible, whether it’s a real possibility or not. Therefore, for those of you with tiny unimaginative minds who would scoff at the possibility of my epic Everest adventure, I say to you it might be entirely possible I can accomplish my daredevil dream. For I believe the mountain is sentient and would fully enjoy the experience, thereby possibly greeting me with clear skies and calm winds to assist me in exploring all the real and unreal possibilities you losers refuse to consider.

Oh hell, are we doing the ‘possible’ thing again. I thought we all agreed that everything is possible. Evidence is only required for possible things that have evidence and not the possible things that don’t have evidence.

Yes, unreal things certainly throw a cog in the ole theory, don’t they? I guess we just have to keep and open mind.

"…with God all things are possible.”

Matthew 19:26

So next time anyone tells you that their Christian deity is not culpable for allowing suffering, tell them according to their bible Jesus claimed otherwise.

Uh, not to be a contrarian or anything, but wouldn’t that include the possibility that there is no god? Or, that all things impossible might be possible? Or that limestone slabs have feelings? Is god capable of contradictions?
Does that get to the plan thing? You know, “it’s all part of god’s plan and we are incapable of understanding it”…which of course begs the question of whether someone should be punished for not accepting something they are incapable of understanding???
For some reason my right hand is twitching…I think I may need to slap somebody…

Quim, who is to scared to tell us which god he worships as a THEIST,

YOUR FEEBLE QUOTE IN YOUR POST #239 TO MY QUESTION IN WHICH GOD YOU ACCEPT AS A THEIST: “This question is so childish that it may sound like an argument to you, but it is ridiculous to me.”

Let me try a different approach since you are obviously too SCARED AND EMBARRASSED to answer as a THEIST, in which god you accept to be real, therefore I’ll go real slow for you this time, okay? You can thank me later.

  1. Your moniker states that you are a “theist,” STOP! Now, take a deep breath and exhale and we’ll go to the next proposition.

  2. THEIST DEFINITION: a person who believes in the existence of a god or gods, specifically of a creator who intervenes in the universe. STOP! Don’t get nervous with this FACT of you being a “theist,”where you have to believe in a god, okay? Remain calm, shhhhhhhhhhhhh!

  3. Now, a “theist” like YOU has to have a god that you accept as real, otherwise, why are you a “theist” in the first place? STOP! Oh, oh, I am sorry if you peed in your pants with this logical deduction of the definition of a “theist”, if you did, go change your underwear and take a 5 minute break to try and repose yourself, okay?

  4. 5 minute break is over: Quim, sit down, calm down, and let me ask the logical question again that you have been running away from to your mommy like a little scared child, ready? Take a deep breath again, exhale, and be as calm as you can, SINCE YOU ARE A “THEIST,” THEREFORE, WHICH GOD DO YOU ACCEPT IN YOUR FEEBLE MIND THAT TRULY EXISTS AND THAT YOU FOLLOW?!

  5. Oh no, not again! Damn it, did you shit your pants because the question above was just too much logic and reason for you to handle AGAIN in not being able to answer it as a THEIST? I am sorry. :frowning:

.
Now, if you can’t answer again to which god you accept that is the “meat” in your comical thread by you, maybe you would be more comfortable with the low mental state of my neighbors pre-school kids to ask you simpler questions to you in finding out which god you accept as a THEIST? Yes? We’ll see.

.
NEXT PSEUDO-THEIST LIKE THE SCAREDY-CAT “QUIM” THAT IS TO EMBARRASSED TO TELL US WHAT GOD HE ACCEPTS, OF WHICH IS THE MAIN TOPIC OF THEIR THREAD, WILL BE …?

.
To the Atheist Membership.

Did the moderators mistakenly leave out a sign somewhere that Quim is taking advantage of in this forum that says “Welcome theists that don’t have the balls to tell the membership in which primitive Bronze and Iron Age God you worship, and therefore, you will easily be made the total runaway fools that you are?”

Pseudo-Theists like Quim do provide great comical entertainment at their embarrassing expense!

Although I would hope this is tongue in cheek, as a mod, I’ll respond as though you are serious.
Actually, all posters are welcome here as long as they do not violate forum guidelines.
No poster is obliged to answer all questions posed to them.
Not all gods are primitive Bronze/Iron Age.
Not all theists are, at least imo, runaway fools.

Weltschmerz is a german word, it describes the feeling of melancholy experienced when the reality of the world doesn’t match our expectations of how it should be. Make of that what you will… :sunglasses:
