Record number of younger women would permanently leave the U.S. if they could. The gap between younger men and younger women is the highest it’s been since this study began. Additionally, more younger women in the U.S. would leave their country than younger women in other countries included in the study.

Women’s rights were particularly hard fought in the US with its evangelical patriarchy influences and they are eroding rapidly. It isn’t surprising then that more women than men would want to leave.

I’d leave if I could and I’m a man, and an old one at that. (Actually “could” is relative, I have the means, just too many ties and obligations and too little time to make it worthwhile. Yet.)

Men are smugly chanting , “Your body, my choice.” The horrific part is that it’s true. They also want to keep women from traveling out of state for abortions. How did we get here?

Lots of layers of answers to that one. But at least you’re asking the question!

Personally, I think the deepest answer is that we never taught critical thinking skills, much less made that a priority. What I know on that topic I’ve had to teach myself, and spent decades prying things out of my brain that were installed there from the cradle. Without something to compensate for our sloppy thought processes and unreliable perception and feeling states, we repeat the same mistakes.

Absent those skills I think humanity is doomed to briefly / partially transcend the human condition only to fall back into it and re-learn the same lessons their grandfathers or great grandfathers had to learn.

Even WITH widespread critical thinking, this would still happen, but at a lower amplitude and with less extreme lows, and with more cumulative learning retained to build upon with each cycle. It might even eventually smooth out into a generally upward trend.

But that’s the work of centuries, and it’s hard for people to motivate themselves for benefits they’ll never fully realize in their lifetimes, and have to take “by faith” in a sense. And every time there’s a degree of success, that comes with relative comfort and ease that’s easily taken for granted.

I wish I had better ideas than these.

The percent of female voters choosing Trump went UP after he was found to be a sexual abuser by the court in New York. We’ve always been here, and we won’t be leaving anytime soon imo.

Thank you. If you feel like this just happened out of the blue, it’s been evolving for over 30 years. If you didn’t see this coming, it’s likely that you weren’t looking…
