God lives in sky above clouds as per Islam

First true electric cars, first re-usable rockets, first vehicle to get US astronauts back into space since the Space Shuttle was retired (and beating Boeing to the punch), and now on track to build the vehicle that will colonize Mars.

Boomer47,

There is a chance you and the preacher are both right.

You see, Jesus said in The Sermon on the Mount Matthew 19:22:

“Whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.”

Yet Jesus himself called people fools throughout the Bible:

“Ye fools and blind.” Matthew 23:17, 19

“Ye fools.” Luke 11:40

“O fools, and slow of heart to believe.” Luke 24:25

By syllogistic logic, wouldn’t that mean that Jesus Hughie Christ is also in Hell and that “Hell” could be the nickname that Ol’ Nick mockingly gives him?

As for the origin of Hell, I thought the Norse called their place of the dead H-E-single-hockey-stick Hel and that Christians adopted that idea as they did so many others.

David Killens,

Electric cars don’t reduce pollution, they simply redistribute the pollution to the source of the electricity that charges the car i.e. to mostly coal-powered and oil-powered generators. Also the batteries use Lead, Lithium, Sulfuric Acid, and many other dangerous chemicals and elements and eventually die and have to be kept in special landfills away from other waste.

Electric cars are not the “green,” eco-friendly things they are made out to be.

And couldn’t all the taxdollars wasted on lauch pad explosions have gone to making renewable rockets and Martian crafts even sooner?

In the science of Economics, as Frederick Bastiat observed, there is “What Is Seen and What Is Not Seen.” Getting the whole picture means searching for both.

Rashkolnikov,

I can’t really add anything to what David and Boomer47 have said on The Exodus except this:

Even if the Exodus account were true, what does that say about a God…

that he would let the Israelites languish in slavery for 400 years…

harden the heart of the Pharoah so he wouldn’t “let Moses’ people go”…

then punish the entire Egyptian people with horrible plagues for the unchosen acts of the Pharoah, including the murder of all first-born children…

then let the Israelites meander through Sinai for 40 years before arriving in The Promised Land, when a straight shot would get the Israelites there in less than 3 weeks…

then slaughter the occupants and plagued the Israelites with the oppression and wars of Kings Saul, David, and so on???

This God is guilty of crimes against humanity and wouldn’t be worthy of worship even if he did exist.

I fully agree. For example, in states where they have many coal-burning power plants, on total, an electric car creates more pollution. And the process of constructing the batteries is an environmental mess.

This is the first time such vehicles have been designed and applied to such goals. Don’t blame Musk that previous launch services have not stepped up to the plate and tried this.

Those launch pad explosions are a result of the iterative design process, that is fundamental to such rapid progress. Build a quick and cheap prototype, test, learn from what went wrong, build a better version, repeat. Explosions were never intended, but expected.

IMO there is no quicker process in making an advanced concept work. For example, both SpaceX and Boeing are in a direct competition to produce a capsule to carry people into space. Even though Boeing has experience in the Apollo capsules, the Shuttle, and Space Station, they are over budget and late, while SpaceX has flown their capsule successfully. And cheaper.

Of the two companies’ current budget, Boeing’s costs for development and test flights were $2.2 billion, while SpaceX’s were $1.2 billion.

I am definitely not a rabid Muskite (a rabid fan) but I do like how he is making things happen. Quicker and cheaper than the established space providers.

David Killens,

I really don’t know…At some point, this many failures, and often at taxpayer’s expense, and at the expense of consumer safety and of exploiting and losing good employees, should give anyone pause for thought, especially we skeptics who take nothing on faith.

If even a fraction of all this below is true, Elon Musk is like Donald Trump running Spacely Sprockets on The Jetsons.:

The Many Failures of Elon Musk Captured in One Giant Infographic

Elon Musk is Kind of a Dick

You may be right. The church has always been flexible about incorporating pagan ideas.

It’s my understanding that the concept was cobbled together over centuries, beginning with the Greek notion of hades, which is simply where the dead go. ‘Sheol’ comes from the Jewish Gehenna. There is no eternal hell in Judaism

Yes, he also used an appeal to authority fallacy, amusingly he even used the word authority in it, and still failed to spot it.

If one is going to cite expertise in an argument, then that expertise must be using objective evidence, the fact someone’s an expert alone is not enough.

Here’s a heads up for our young friend, most biblical experts tend to be religious, and while the belief doesn’t necessarily mean bias, it usually is the case that at some point they move from historical evidence to woo woo assumption.

Try this. I don’t care if every single claim in Exodus can be show unequivocally to have occurred broadly as described.

What objective evidence can anyone demonstrate that any supernatural cause is/was required, and then, what objective evidence can anyone demonstrate that the cause was any deity?

From there they can demonstrate sufficient objective evidence that it was the deity they imagine is real.
