There are some frustrations in daily life that just are so frustrating that one needs a place to vent. This is the place. I’ll start:
I strongly dislike shirts. I don’t like wearing them. They are uncomfortable, they are impractical, it’s difficult to find a good fit, and I absolutely hate ironing them . So I avoid them whenever I can. But today I had to iron not one, not two, but three shirts (for myself and the kids) that will be used tomorrow. If there is a hell, I’m sure the dress code there mandates shirts.
I feel your frustration. But for me, it’s the opposite — I have broad shoulders, so I almost always end up with oversized shirts that have too long arms.
Careful, I’m convinced that such wishful thinking can get people sucked into religion. The Vikings had a magic goat that gave mead from it’s udders in their after life. Keep this up and the next thing you know you’ll be worshipping at the altar of the Balvenie 21 Porwood lactating Unicorn . It would seem that the men will likely fall into the religion that deems shirts sinful and strictly forbids their wearing.
I don’t honestly even think about shirts. I just put them on in the morning and put them in the hamper at bedtime and throw them in the wash once or twice a week. Except that I don’t like having them un-tucked and prefer cuts that require them to be tucked in. It probably makes me look dorky at times but I don’t have a waste to speak of and an un-tucked shirt means my belt buckle pinches me and my pants tend to creep down as I move about. And I’m not even overweight – it is just how it works out. It doesn’t help that my parents socialized me to think an untucked shirt means you’re slovenly.
For me, I just don’t enjoy that inanimate objects often don’t cooperate – some part of me figures, irrationally, that I expect PEOPLE to be idiots and I even expect the designers of things to be idiots but I really have to work to not take it personally when something stupid like my key fob for the car keeps setting off the panic alarm when I sneeze the wrong way or some stupid device is directly in what “should” be a simple path from the present to a near-future goal.
I am much better at letting go of such silliness in my dotage, fortunately.
The fact that 49 out of 50 American States require liability insurance to operate a potentially lethal 4000 pound motor vehicle, but none require liability insurance for a purposely lethal handgun.
I take my shirts to the dry cleaner for laundering and pressing. Washing them isn’t bad, but I hate ironing them–it’s a real pain and time waster. I have a hard time getting shirts that fit because I’m 6’2” and 165 pounds, with a 37” sleeve size. My ideal size is 15-37, but typically the only shirts I find in local stores with a 37” sleeve are in 18” (or larger) neck sizes, which are way too big for me.
I always wear chino-style pants, typically khaki, and a long sleeve button-down shirt. I guess that makes me look both dorky and “managerial” at the same time. I’ve always dressed that way for work, so it feels natural to dress the same way even now that I’m retired. I only wear something else when I’m working in the yard or garage.
You can’t , obviously, produce this magical unicorn, but you could start a cult and convince your astoundingly gullible fellow humans that they will have this wondrous creature when they die if they give you all their money and worldly goods now. People seem to fall for even more ludicrous things en masse. Hell, sign me up . If I could just convince myself I’ll someday be rewarded with this endless supply of premium liquor I’d no doubt find my days more enjoyable.
I haven’t ironed an item of clothing in probably 20 years. My wife buys a lot of Duluth Trading and similar shirts for me … they come out of the dryer without wrinkles. I just hang them up. I am 5’11" and 190 pounds and I guess a typical sleeve length since the default always seems to work. I can see where needing sizes or specs outside what is typically on the rack would be a big problem though.
Of course I am a 100% telecommute (literally for the past 3 years or so – before that I had to make an annual pilgrimage to Phoenix for my client’s annual conclave but my current one doesn’t even want that). So I get by with casual shirts and jeans. Heck I think I have only had one camera-on zoom meeting with them. Since then it’s 100% email and an occasional voice call. So I could work in my pajamas if I were inclined to. I just like to impose a little structure on myself.
Got you beat. I ain’t ironed anything in over 70 years. Basically, I ain’t never ironed anything in me whole life. Even in the military, others pressed me uniforms.
