He’s got to be up to something after trying so hard to keep them from being released. I’m afraid he’ll find some way to post pone every signing the realease. I just hope he doesn’t get away with it.

The Senate passed it unanimously. If Trump vetos it, Congress will override it.

My understanding is that if it passed with >= 2/3 majority in both houses of Congress it was veto-proof. It passed that way in the House but the Senate appears to have used “unanimous consent” this doesn’t “count” as a 2/3 majority since no actual vote is taken (it also allows individual Senators to distance themselves personally because their yes or no vote isn’t recorded).

So Trump can still veto it. On the other hand, the Senate did not amend / modify the bill as passed by the House so Mike Johnson’s BS reasoning that it was up to the Senate to redact the material to “protect innocent people” wasn’t something they wanted to get bogged down with I guess.

If Trump vetoes it it goes back to Congress and would, so far as I know, be subject to Mike Johnson’s stonewalling again, further modifications, etc.

It isn’t over unless Trump signs it and my money is on him having no intention to do so, unless there’s some sort of fix in at the DOJ like every reference to Trump has already been purged.

I see you’re someone who, as Céline so famously said, is willing to die in the silence of the truth.

And I couldn’t agree more.

And Speaker Johnson continues his gaslighting. He’s competing with trump to get the Most Indecent Person Award of this decade.

He’s also got Closeted Gay Man written all over him. Those are the most dangerous for LGBTQ folks.

The only one who’s more OVERTLY disgusting to me for some reason is the grinning fool who is the Trump spokesperson on many economic matters, Ken Hassett. Always delivers the lie with an affable smile and a straight face … and he’s aggressively stupid as well.

In response to trump’s call for their execution:

From The Washington Post:

“The U.S. Coast Guard will no longer classify the swastika, an emblem of fascism and white supremacy inextricably linked to the murder of millions of Jews and that more than 400,000 U.S. troops died fighting against in World War II, as a hate symbol, according to a new policy that takes effect next month. Instead, the Coast Guard will classify the Nazi-era insignia as ‘potentially divisive’ under its new guidelines.”

At the rate we’re going, the flag will look like this before Trump leaves office:

In part this has to do with the fact that the MAHA / anti-vax / pseudoscience now actively promoted by the government is, to put it mildly, unprofessional. We can’t have a bunch of professionals correcting us.

The other part as I understand it is that reclassifying these former professions renders them more difficult to enter, as some of the educational assistance and preferences are based on this classification.

The ultimate end of all this is that in another generation we will be consulting witch doctors for our health needs.

She also timed her resignation to be 1 to 2 days after she qualifies for retirement benefits. She talks a pretty good game right now but she did all sorts of self-dealing during her tenure. There’s a great meme going around right now that she’s retiring so she has more time to stalk and harass David Hogg, lol.

Isn’t she the Jewish Space Lasers lady? She’s a kook.

Yes she is, but she has sounded positively sane and almost superficially progressive in the past couple of months. She is one of those politicians that changes opinions like clothes.

IMO, it’s perfectly ok for politicians to change their clothes. House Representatives are supposed to represent their constituents. If an elected official finds that the majority of their constituents are encouraging them to support or reject something they hadn’t previously supported / rejected, they should do so. They are representatives.
