Does the U.S. want to rush headlong into $200 oil changes and $25 small packs of meat? Because this is how we rush headlong into that.
Our greatness will soon be represented by how greatly poverty can spread throughout the land under an administration that’s exceptionally good at selling Grade A bullshit to its believers.
“The tariffs announced Saturday could be the beginning of a policy war, with tariff rates at risk of ratcheting even higher. In announcing the tariffs Saturday the White House added there was a “retaliation clause” added to the measures.
“So that if any country chooses to retaliate in any way, the signal will be to take further action with respect to likely increased tariffs,” the White House said.
“ Only after that political support is strong enough to cause fallacious ideas to become government policies and programs are the missing or ignored factors likely to lead to “unintended consequences,” a phrase often heard in the wake of economic or social policy disasters.”
Where I live, there is a long list with official advice on emergency supplies that should be in every home, where possible. Recommendations include: 20 liters of drinking water per person, shelf stable food, alternative ways for cooking (grill, gas burners, etc.), first aid kit, batteries, battery driven radio, battery driven light sources, candles and matches, cash, warm clothes, plus other essentials. Ideally, each household should have supplies to last a week.
I’m prepared. I have 15,000 gallons of drinking water, 500 gallons of propane, enough solar capacity to run everything in the house and charge the cars, and plenty of food. I hope things don’t come to that, but if they do, I’m ready.
[A]nd why should these other countries pay a small fraction of the cost of what the USA citizens pay for Drugs and Pharmaceuticals
Well, there are a few other more sensible explanations to that. Like the fact that “these other countries” have e.g. regulated maximum prices for pharmaceuticals. Or that in a single payer system, there is a lot more room to negotiate prices. Or that “these other countries” have a system with way less overhead. Or that “these other countries” don’t have a for-profit healthcare system. Or a combination of several of the factors. Might I suggest that the US fixes its healthcare system instead of being jealous of the systems of other countries?
The average cartoon writer is way more intelligent and imaginative, than the giant oompa loompa.
I see his sidekick, Musk, has resorted to ad hominem on his personal social media platform, calling Sir Ed Davey a “snivelling cretin”, because the Lib Dem leader called him on his scare mongering bs, about UK politics, and quelle surprise suggesting the answer is to “overthrow a legally elected government”. Just like his hero, Musk’s sense of entitlement is nauseating.
This may not be a FAFO immediately but I’d be surprised if many here don’t comprehend the Find Out this will cause in the future. Literally censoring the pursuit of truth.
“The CDC has instructed its scientists to retract or pause the publication of any research manuscript being considered by any medical or scientific journal, not merely its own internal periodicals…
“In the order, CDC researchers were instructed to remove references to or mentions of a list of forbidden terms: “Gender, transgender, pregnant person, pregnant people, LGBT, transsexual, non-binary, nonbinary, assigned male at birth, assigned female at birth, biologically male, biologically female,” according to an email sent to CDC employees.”
The Orange continues hammering on with his “us vs. them” false dichotomy - “either you agree with me (and support heavy tariffs), or you hate the USA.”
As far as FAFO is concerned : Aren’t there any limits to what he can fuck around with without his supporters finding out?
