I believe we’re watching the making of a dictatorship in real time, even if the parameters of the dictatorship aren’t yet fully fleshed out.
The question may well be - how much time is there before the window to meaningful resistance closes, or before some of the truly hideous people in power resort to violence?
The federal system being difficult to overturn will offer resistance of it’s own, I believe, along with the incompetence of so many Orange cronies.
The problem is the 77 million of my neighbors who think Trump is a good choice. If aliens abducted Trump tomorrow and we never heard from him again, it wouldn’t fix this problem.
The question I have to ask here, is at what point is the US military likely to intervene?
The US military has still sworn an oath to the Constitution, hasn’t it?
If so, if the threat to the Constitution is deemed dire enough, the US military will step in, surely?
Which, to my mind, will open up yet more cans of worms that might be best left sealed. Though in retrospect, I am wondering why the US military did not intervene on January 6th. Which seems like the time when it should have intervened to counter a visible insurrection.
Quite often not. But the institution I attended in the 70s, Grand Rapids School of the Bible and Music, taught that you must never be alone with any member of the opposite sex of any age; you must bring a female staffer into the session, AND keep the door open. Stuff like that. I think the subtext was less to protect people from predation than to protect a pastor or counselor from false accusations. So a big part of the problem is the presupposition of innocence on the part of the church official.
Of course this wouldn’t account at all for same sex pedophilia. But such was our credulousness that we assumed that was impossible for a Man of God.
The food&beverage department where I work is on fire; as with such trade barriers being threatened/in-placed/removed, that they can’t estimate their future cost of supplies for the year, to even within an order of magnitude; and apparently no one sells champagne futures. oops
At least one poster here said he was glad trump won so more ‘illegal aliens’ would be deported. Looks like egg prices are going up and deportations are down.
The biggest mistake the U.S. ever made was not hanging every Confederate politician, officer, and slave owner after the Civil War. We’ve been experiencing the consequences of this ever since.
I’d be surprised if Te$la’s competitors weren’t now aggressively manouvering to fill the increasing market share vacuum. Musk will need to step up his bust out of America’s treasure to keep the billions flowing, it looks like.
In other news, I could be wrong but can’t imagine any scenario where the following won’t be a FAFO for planet earth…
Trump admin moves to fire hundreds of government scientists
Unfortunately, I don’t think the failing of Tesla amounts to a (relatively) substantial impact to Muskrat. He can keep it limping along enough to reap the fat contract from the government…take the money and run. It’s similar to his rocket company. He’s already nailed down the contacts, why should he care if the rockets blow up. I’d bet there’s no clause in the contracts that says his shit actually needs to work.
