So…part of the “Big Beautiful Bill” the GOP enacted, the Dept of Education will deny federal grants and loans to universities and students if the coursework does not provide an earnings potential they deem appropriate.
They stuffed this into the bill thinking they were screwing over folks who were after liberal arts degrees. Likely because they hate the word liberal.
The Justice Department on Tuesday expanded the agreement it reached this week with President Trump to resolve his extraordinary lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service to include a provision that would bar the agency from pursuing tax claims against the president, his family or his businesses.
Trump Mobile has only been shipping its gold plated phones (cheap Chinese crap) for about a week, yet the company has already doxxed its users. Looks like the Trumps run their mobile business just like they run all their businesses–poorly. The silver lining here is that only MAGAts are likely to have fallen for this grift and bought these phones.
In their continuing effort to stick it to the libs, the GOP enthusiastically backed taking student loans away from degrees that don’t produce high paying jobs. They thought it would only target liberal arts. The FAFO is that religious studies are one of the least lucrative degrees. I wonder how they’ll get around that. Maybe by pointing to the predatory prosperity preachers who live like rock stars?
If their goal is to return the US to a factory-hosting nation that will be self-defeating. Power through innovation and other knowledge-based trades/subject will shift to other countries and continents, and the US will just become a theocratic copy-cat nation.
Yeah they seem incapable of perceiving knock-on effects. All that matters is control – ideological and sociological. They think their “values” will save us but it doesn’t change the consequences you mention.
One of the reasons why science prospered in the U.S. immediately prior to and after WWII was because of the brain drain from Germany that was caused by the Nazis firing all Jewish scientists. Many of these, including Einstein, came to the U.S.
Now we’re going to experience the opposite: scientists leaving this country because of the policies of the current regime. Anti-intellectualism has always been prevalent in this country, with a few brief periods where it wasn’t as bad as it is now. Even a hundred years after the so-called Scopes “Monkey Trial” there are still states pushing to teach creationism in public schools.
I suppose it won’t really matter much anymore because we’ve already off-shored manufacturing and much product development work. Soon all we’ll have left is financial engineering and healthcare.
