A Blast From the Past - Disturbing Auctions

I’d like those who are able to, to wind the clock back to around 1999. A time when the Internet was a bright, shiny new toy we all wanted to play with, and which promised all manner of delights, some of them completely unexpected.

Very quickly, the Internet became a venue for humour that fell into the category of “WHAT HAVE I JUST SEEN?!?!?!?!?!?”, but, this being 1999, the humour hadn’t yet taken the form of truly dark cynicism we see today. Of course, the causes of that cynicism were yet to materialise too, such as billionaire greed on steroids, the rampant pollution of the Internet with execrable advertisements, on a scale that is comparable to a tsunami, and the rise of fascism in the USA. The less said here about all three, the better.

So, back to 1999, and wacky Internet humour.

I’ve just been reminded of one site that has now sadly disappeared from view - namely the Disturbing Auctions website. This was a website that kept track of some of the frankly scary items that some people put up for auction in the pre-Ebay days. Thankfully, the Wayback Machine comes to our rescue, and you can now savour its at times terrifying delights courtesy of this link.

In particular, I recommend highly that you all savour the Emotionally Scarring Toys, and the entire section devoted to dolls that in some cases, make Chucky look positively benign. There are also the weird home furnishings (check out the clown lava lamp from Hell for perhaps the best of this section), and some strange books for you to peruse - your library is not complete without its own copy of You Can Make Furry Novelties.

But, most of all, I urge you all to save possibly the best for last, and upon doing so, go and take a peek at the Pooduck.

Note that all the links actually work. I’ve tested enough of them to verify this. Including the Child Attacking Cuddly Toy.
