Here their tactic was to take their young children (preteen) with them. Always thought that was a disgusting thing to do. Worked on me to a degree. They still only got 30 or fewer seconds, but I would never insult them in front of their children.
Cynical old prick that I am, it later occurred to me that the idea was to expose the children to unpleasantness and abuse. To reinforce the humbug and the lies they were being taught about how special JW’s are and how horrible all non JW’s are. If true, inexcusable imo.
I’m not the slightest bit surprised that there is child abuse within JW’s. However,I’ve seen no evidence that such abuse has anything to do with religion. As far as I can tell,like rape, child sexual abuse is about power and control. Hence it can be expected to be found within any organisation in which adults have power over children. Not just religions either. I suspect say the scouts and across the range of sporting organisations.
I have read of such cases within The Church Of England (episcopalians), The Amish,Orthodox Judaism and Orthodox Islamic schools. (not to be confused with madrassas, although I suspect some abuse probably occur in such organisations as well)
I have long suspected that the level of child abuse across societies is far greater than anyone has dared imagine. I truly hope I’m wrong.
