Why do people think Science supposedly requires belief?

@GodBennett

So you’re a coward as well as a liar, bye then.

Has it occurred to you that Sheldon is working with one definition of “belief”, and you another?

This is precisely why definitions are requested. I suggest you work with Sheldon work out a common definition of “belief” both of you can work with.

@David_Killens

Actually he accepted the dictionary definition when I quoted it. This goes way back to an absurd claim he made with a previous account. I shall not bore you with the ridiculous details, but he genuinely believes it is possible to not hold a single belief. I asked him at the time is he believed that and got the same dishonest puerile semantics he’s offered this time.

I partly blame myself for having anything to do with him, as he is relentlessly dishonest.

I had already mentioned a definition since comment 2, as well as within a link in the OP.

However as I pointed out in a prior comment, Sheldon can continue to argue, but I shall decline from responding, as Sheldon no longer seems to recall what Sheldon seeks to accuse me of.

This late transformation of accusations, was possibly triggered by an apparently hard question Sheldon is still unable to answer.

:face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Scientific Fact: A scientific fact is an undeniably true statement accepted by the scientific community. Facts can be proven to be correct through observations and testing.

Objective reality: Terminology. Many philosophers would use the term “ objective reality ” to refer to anything that exists as it is independent of any conscious awareness of it (via perception, thought, etc.).

“Objective reality is not affected by our beliefs about it.”

What an interesting statement. " Summary: One of the most bizarre premises of quantum theory, which has long fascinated philosophers and physicists alike, states that by the very act of watching, the observer affects the observed reality ."

Will not a belief, change my brain state? Is the brain state changed by introduction to the belief? Is the brain part of an objective reality?

I only ask because I thought the statement was interesting… I assume objective reality to be that which can be observed and measured.

" Your beliefs can shape your reality not only by influencing your own behavior, but also by influencing other people’s behavior, from close relationship partners to complete strangers."

I have not followed the discussion. Just commenting on the one phrase without the background info.

On a side note: Is there such a thing as a scientific “truth?” Why call it truth when it is always, with the discovery of new information, subject to change?

My guess - G. is just yanking chains.

I have Sheldon’s side of the story, I have yours. I will decide on my own.

Sheldon is honest to a fault, while you have displayed the opposite.

Sheldon is not the one who’s just been handed a (second) lengthy ban from this forum, champ. For your relentless dishonesty.

Now go away and think about how liars are treated on here, when they persist in their duplicity. And I will try and give a toss what someone who has just been banned for lying thinks about me.
