The believer uses faith in the sense of “belief in that not seen” .That is the core of all religious belief. Not reason ,not facts. I say ‘all’ because I have never seen one based on empirical evidence. (but would love to)
In fact, Jesus himself is reported as admonishing his disciples to do exactly that in the doubting Thomas incident:
John 20:29 " Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed." (KJV)
This bit for protestants. Martin Luther, father of the protestant reformation had this to say about reason:
“Reason is a whore, the greatest enemy that faith has; it never comes to the aid of spiritual things, but more frequently than not struggles against the divine Word, treating with contempt all that emanates from God.” (Martin Luther)
The believers we get here tend to be impervious to reason and to facts. They are also almost always anti science and anti intellectual*** They all have seemed to be suffering from industrial strength cognitive dissonance
From Alice in Wonderland:
“When I use a word,” Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, “it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less.” “The question is,” said Alice, “whether you can make words mean so many different things.” “The question is,” said Humpty Dumpty, “which is to be master—that’s all.”

Alice laughed. “There’s no use trying,” she said: “one can’t believe impossible things.”
“I daresay you haven’t had much practice,” said the Queen. “When I was your age, I always did it for half-an-hour a day. Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast. ”

*** here I use the term ‘intellectual’ in it’s broadest sense. Something like this:
“An intellectual (from the adjective meaning “involving thought and reason“) is a person who tries to use his or her intelligence and analytical thinking, either in their profession or for the benefit of personal pursuits.”
It does not strictly infer 'more intelligent than the aptly named ‘flock’ . It only means people who regularly engage in abstract thinking. Something few believers seem to do on a regular basis. Probably why most of them suck at it.
