My problems aren’t with the site, they’re with the memory hog that is Google glitching like crazy over even tiny graphics.
Something I have noticed fairly often is that the red dot next to a category indicating unread posts is not really accurate (except occasionally when it is). Right now Debate Room, Random Fun, and Site Feedback all have “the red spot” and there are no new (to me) topics in any of them. Almost as if all that spam or some after-effect / aura of it is sitting around somewhere screwing up those indicators.
Sometimes I can go to the New tab under a category or the Topics top category and that will clear them or sync them with reality. Other times, not so. It feels subjectively like a bug in the forum software. It’s not a fatal problem really, just mentioning it in case anyone has discovered anything else about it.
ETA: I think in this case it was the spam, I had 73 new topics site wide. The New tab under, e.g., Debate Room would tell me no new topics but didn’t clear the indicators. But going to Topics | New was different: it also said no new topics but then the indicators went away on all the categories.
So these are not checked and synced reliably by the software unless you force it via Topics | New.
Alternative hypothesis: Edited messages?
